00:00On September 14th, over 4,500 people laced up their running shoes and filled the streets
00:15of Puchong in support of a good cause.
00:18Lotus Malaysia hosted the third edition of the Chirya Charity Run at its Bandar Bukit
00:23Puchong outlet.
00:25The event featured three race categories, 15KM, 10KM and 5KM.
00:33The 15KM category kicked off before sunrise while the 5KM drew the largest crowd with many
00:40families, even those with strollers, joining in.
00:44I was like amazed with the whole sort of crowd and to see that people with children and the
00:49elderly is actually giving the spirit of unity coming to play for me, you know.
00:55Everybody is here as early as about 5.30am to get the car park.
00:59So I think it's always, you know, very beneficial to have some things like this.
01:03Not only that you promote health and wellbeing because you come with your family to run or
01:09walk in the sun, but you also have that spirit of unity for a good purpose to raise funds.
01:15Runners, as well as more than 120 brand partners, raised 400,000 ringgit for the Lotus Pintar
01:25Smart Up School program.
01:27The funds will go towards sustainable education initiatives in underserved schools nationwide.
01:34For instance, last year's run funded the Smart Shopper Plus workshop with the Pintar Foundation,
01:40equipping B40 students with financial literacy skills.
01:46From 3,000 participants in 2023 to over 4,500 this year, Lotus' Chirya Charity Run continues
01:54to grow.
01:56Each runner joined for different reasons, some for the cause, others for the spirit
02:01of the event.
02:02People are starting to join all these running events, so probably in the future if you feel
02:07like you're scared to join, don't be scared, especially for those plus size or for those
02:11who are big size people or those who solo run, especially girls, you don't need to worry
02:16because towards the end you will find friends along the way.
02:30The run wrapped up at around 9am, but many stayed on to enjoy over 40 product sampling booths,
02:38fun games and activities like Zumba and a variety of food trucks.
02:44The event wrapped up with a lucky draw where a total of 197 prizes were given away.
02:52With eyes on the bigger picture, Lotus Malaysia and Pintar are working towards reaching 50,000
02:58students across the country in the coming years.
