00:00Madagascar's President Andriy Rangelina announced on Monday the dissolution of the government in response to youth-led protests regarding water and power outages, which the United Nations reports have resulted in at least 22 fatalities and over 100 injuries.
00:17These reports, inspired by the so-called Gen Z movements in Kenya and Nepal, have lasted three days and represents the largest demonstration the Indian Ocean Island has experienced in years.
00:32The President expressed his desire to foster dialogue with the youth and pledged to implement measures to assist businesses impacted by looting.
00:40We demand Rangelina's resignation. If he is incompetent, he must step down because students suffer, the people suffer, everyone suffers because electricity doesn't work.
00:52There are water cuts. We are preparing our thesis and there is no electricity.
00:57This is a litmus test for Rangelina, who first took power in 2009 coup and his controversial third-term re-election in 2023.
