00:00Madagascar's president, Andrew Rajolina, revealed that he fled the country out of fear for his safety after military uprising.
00:07In a speech aired on national television late Monday from an undisclosed location, he notably did not announce his resignation.
00:13Rajolina has been dealing with weeks of anti-gown protests given by the Gen Z generation, backed by the special military unit.
00:22Some president within the African continent offered to send troops to bring about peace in Madagascar.
00:30My response was that it is not in line with the Madagascar values to send troops, which I declined.
00:38For that reason, I was forced to find a place, and I went to a safe location to protect my life.
00:48Rajolina did not say how he left Madagascar or where he was, but a report claimed that he was flown out of the country on a French military plane.
00:55He is now calling for dialogue to find out ways of this situation and saying the position should be respected.
01:04I will not let you be destroyed, and I will not let anyone destroy you, Madagascar.
01:09For that very reason, I personally open the doors for consultations and dialogue to usher us out of this difficult situation.
01:23The problem is not how you express your opinion, but the repercussions and exaggerations of those that take advantage of the situation as we see how things are currently unfolding.
01:34This is the most significant unrest in the island nation of 31 million people off the east coast of Africa, since Rajolina himself first came to power as the leader of a transitional government following a 209 military-backed coup.
