00:01About eight years ago, we at Eindhoven University of Technology wanted to connect education more to the outside world
00:09by letting students work on challenges that really matter.
00:12In challenge-based learning, students work on open-ended, real-life and authentic challenges.
00:17They are in the lead of their own learning and identify adequate learning objectives and acquire and apply knowledge.
00:25The starting point of this project was the observation that there's many indicators suggesting that CBL is an effective and motivating educational approach that foster student learning,
00:35but there was still not much research underpinning that.
00:38That is why we collected data from different CBL experiments across campus.
00:42With this data, we developed a framework to capture the conditions, processes and outcomes of student learning and challenge-based learning.
00:49But that still left us with the question of whether CBL is truly the better educational approach.
00:53So what we needed was a systematic comparison.
00:56We collaborated with colleagues from TUA Innovation Space and Industrial Engineering to redesign three courses on technology entrepreneurship to challenge-based learning.
01:06We observed and interviewed the teachers to understand how they experienced the change in their role.
01:13We also conducted longitudinal research in the original and in the redesigned version of the courses to identify effects of CBL on student learning strategies and outcomes.
01:22We are going to present the project outcomes at April 2025 and we invite everyone to get in touch with us.
01:27so thank you everyone to get in touch with us.
01:29for everyone to get in touch with us.
