"Some of these sacks are a little misleading"- What did #Patriots HC Mike Vrabel think of the offensive line play? What does Vrabel make of the parody in the #NFL
Transcript
00:00Talk about the offensive line and what they've been able to do
00:03when it comes not only protecting Drake May,
00:05but obviously what they do in the run game,
00:08what they've been able to do through the first four games.
00:12Yeah, Ben stepped in for Jared, and Ben's been working extremely hard.
00:15He's worked at center and guard throughout camp
00:17and played a little bit last year for the Patriots.
00:21And so he stepped right in.
00:23I thought he played well.
00:24I thought he had a great play demeanor, great push.
00:26And, yeah, the ability to protect, you know,
00:31and some of these sacks are a little misleading.
00:34You know, it just goes in as a sack.
00:36And then you go back and watch him.
00:37You're like, oh, Drake scrambled and ran out of bounds for no gain,
00:41and that's a sack.
00:42So, again, but there's other ones.
00:44And so I don't get too caught up in that.
00:45But, you know, as long as we're trying to create a good pocket,
00:48you know, when we are behind, you know,
00:50when we're not moving the launch point that's firm in the middle
00:53and that we're able to run the edge guys by
00:56and that we're not getting beat inside or we're not loose inside
00:59because then the quarterback and the timing gets broken down
01:01and they have to, you know, step and avoid.
01:04And now their eye sometimes goes down,
01:06doesn't stay on the receiver or the routes.
01:09And so when we can do that, which they have,
01:14and, again, they're working extremely hard, you know, on third down.
01:16There's games every week.
01:18There's loaded fronts.
01:19There's mug fronts.
01:20And guys are twisted.
01:21And you have to work with the guy next to you to protect them
01:24because these guys are trying to come and pick.
01:27And you have to flatten out the penetrator.
01:29So those are things that they're working extremely hard on.
01:31And it's good to see some of that translate.
01:34I used to be firm in the middle.
01:37Okay.
01:39How long have we known this guy?
01:41I've never been firm in the middle.
01:42I have a mug shot that does not look very firm in the middle.
01:45You had a – you teased the big parody question.
01:51Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:52I was going to ask you about that.
01:53Because as fans, I look at it and go,
01:56there's a lot of parody in the NFL.
01:58And I wonder, as a coach, do you kind of utilize that
02:02and saying, hey, listen, it's wide open.
02:06If we play the way we're supposed to play,
02:08we can play with anybody.
02:10I know – I feel like it was a little different
02:12when New England was successful back in the days.
02:14It was very difficult to beat them.
02:16They seemed like they were ahead of everybody else.
02:20But I don't see a team like that in the NFL.
02:23And I wonder if that's a message that you give to the players at times.
02:26Well, the message is that you have to play good
02:29to give yourself a chance to win.
02:30And if you play bad, you're guaranteed to lose.
02:33That's the message.
02:34And we believe that we can play with anybody
02:37when we do the things the right way
02:39and play to our identity and play complementary
02:44and all those things.
02:45So that's the National Football League.
02:47I don't think that that's any surprise
02:48on how you try to win.
02:52Going on the road is going to be even more difficult
02:54in handling that environment
02:56and being able to operate offensively in that environment.
03:01All right, Coach.
03:02Did you get to talk to Mark Wahlberg at all yesterday?
03:04No.
03:05No, no words.
03:05I did not see that.
03:07No, we didn't cross paths.
03:09All right.
03:10Top three favorite Wahlberg films before you go?
03:14Departed count.
03:15Yeah.
03:15Departed.
03:15Fantastic.
03:16Do you prefer the departed over the town?
03:20Or do you think the town is a...
03:22Point flip.
03:23Point flip on them.
03:24Yeah.
03:25Yeah.
03:25All right.
03:25All right.
