00:03are joining forces
00:04to crack down on fraud.
00:06Euronews is following them
00:07in this special series
00:08called The Food Detectives.
00:10In this episode,
00:11fresh technology
00:12to make farm products
00:13you can trust.
00:24Rolling farmland
00:25and dairy cows
00:26happily grazing.
00:27This idyllic scene
00:28in Finland
00:29is exactly what you imagine
00:30when you think of
00:31high-quality,
00:32small-scale farm products.
00:34Yet, even this sector
00:36isn't immune from fraud,
00:37as Food Detectives
00:38Hanne-Leena Alakomi explains.
00:41In small-world production,
00:43there may be changes.
00:45There are products
00:46and that's why
00:47it's important
00:48that there are
00:49ways to show
00:50the quality of the product
00:52and to explain
00:53how the dairy products
00:55have come.
00:57So, this farm,
00:58run by Antti Koyanen,
00:59is part of a pilot project
01:01with the food detectives
01:02to create a whole new level
01:04of transparency
01:05across the dairy supply chain.
01:08It begins with these
01:09robotic milking machines,
01:10which measure and test the milk
01:12from each cow every day.
01:14The milk is then taken from the farm
01:28to this small dairy,
01:29where it's transformed into cheddar cheese,
01:40and the effort to maintain
01:42total transparency in production continues.
01:45The special ingredient
01:46is this QR code label
01:48developed by the food detectives
01:50from the EU's Watson project.
01:52Behind this simple printed sticker,
01:54you'll find the entire story
01:56of the product.

02:08One of the key goals of this team
02:09is for small scale producers
02:10to be able to easily deploy
02:11their totality
02:12and how we will see
02:25the products.
02:26The food detectives
02:27transparency solution
02:28was developed here in Vasa,
02:29on the west coast of Finland.
02:31One of the key goals
02:32of this team
02:33is for small scale producers
02:34to be able
02:35able to easily deploy their total transparency solutions using well-known technology like QR
02:41codes, as food detective Stureud explains.
03:05This microbrewery is pilot testing the QR code solution. It means that details like where the barley was harvested are now visible, details consumers didn't always have before, according to food detective Pekke Karhunen.
03:35This unique code also helps fight against imitation and fraud.
03:56The flow of data goes in both directions too. Once customers scan the code with their phones, they can evaluate the product, feedback, comments to the producer and see promotions and updates.

04:26At this point, there is also a possibility that customers can send the product back to the product. That's all for this episode.
04:35Next time on the Food Detectives, we're in Spain to see a sweet new system to find fraudulent honey. See you then.
