00:00Right then? Listen up, you little shits. I want to tell you about something that happened in the
00:05old days. Well, before my time, actually, but it's still a good story. Yeah, so Bilbo Baggins,
00:13that was the fellow that lived in the Shire, and he was a burglar. A respectable burglar,
00:18mind you. He took great pride in his work, even though he didn't really do much of it.
00:23You see, Bilbo had a very tidy house. Everything was well organized. He liked to keep things neat
00:28and orderly, and he never really went adventuring, not until, of course, Gandalf came along and dragged
00:34him out of his comfortable hobbit hole. But anyway, what I'm trying to say is that when Bilbo did go
00:39adventuring, he wasn't really cut out for it. Seemed to be a bit clumsy, didn't he? See, Bilbo liked nice
00:46things. He liked food, drink, fireworks, all that sort of thing. And being a burglar, you can't really
00:54have those things with you when you're adventuring around the countryside. So Bilbo would sneak
00:58into other people's houses and take their stuff. Of course, he only ever did this to nasty, evil,
01:04nasty people. That was his excuse, anyway. He also had a particular fondness for dragon treasure,
01:10which is probably why he took such offense when Smaug attacked the Lonely Mountain and stole all
01:15the gold that the dwarves had spent centuries accumulating. But that's neither here nor there,
01:20because I want to tell you about a time when Bilbo went on an adventure into the wild,
01:24wild country, and he brought back some souvenirs. Oh yes, he once returned to the shire with a cartload
01:31of stolen goods, and he proudly displayed them in his front hall. There were barrels of ale and sacks
01:37of flour, hams and cheeses, pies and tarts, bottles of wine and boxes of cigars. And on the table in the
01:45middle of it all sat a magnificent golden crown, sparkling in the firelight. Oh yes, Bilbo had had
01:52quite the adventure. He had journeyed far beyond the borders of the shire, into lands where the wild
01:57men lived, and he had even managed to steal the crown right off the king's head. But Bilbo wasn't
02:02the kind of fellow to sit on his laurels, not for him the life of a petty thief living in a hole.
02:08No, Bilbo wanted more. He wanted to be rich, really rich. And so he hit the road again, leaving his
02:15precious collection of loot in the care of his gardener, one Mr. Grub. Now, Mr. Grub was a simple
02:22sort of fellow. He liked his gardening, and he didn't like anything to distract him from his work.
02:28But Bilbo had only been gone a fortnight when a band of goblins stole into the garden,
02:32and made off with the entire collection, leaving poor Mr. Grub in a most terrible state of distress.
02:39What was he to do? Who would look after Bilbo's house while he was away? Who would guard his precious
02:45belongings? And what would Bilbo say when he returned to find the place in ruins, and all his
02:50treasure gone? Well, Mr. Grub had only one answer. He had to find Bilbo and tell him what had happened.
02:57So, he set off down the lane, clutching a watering can and a trowel, and hoping against hope that he
03:03might bump into his employer before the goblins did. But Mr. Grub was a simple fellow, and by the time
03:09he had walked two or three miles, he began to feel a little peckish. And there, on the bank before
03:14him, sat a most magnificent apple pie, just oozing deliciousness and begging to be eaten.
03:21And Mr. Grub, well, he couldn't resist. He took a bite, and then another, and then, well, you know
03:28how it is. And by the time he had finished the pie, he felt a lot better. In fact, he felt so much better
03:35that he didn't bother to look out for Bilbo, and he certainly didn't look out for any goblins.
03:40And that, me hearties, is how the goblins got away with Bilbo's treasure, all because a simple gardener
03:45couldn't resist a pie. Haha, that Bilbo, always taking things that didn't belong to him, but never
03:51leaving anything of value behind. Typical burglar.
