00:00So the Heisman Trophy, we're not even through the month of September,
00:02but we're starting to separate ourselves here.
00:05And by the way, the leader right now in the clubhouse in the odds market
00:09is Fernando Mendoza.
00:11I'm telling you right now, college football purist, yep,
00:14absolutely know that guy, fantastic.
00:16He's a great quarterback.
00:17Non-purist who are tuning in just for the biggest games.
00:20Who is this guy, Joe, and how did he get here?
00:23He came from Cal.
00:24He's a mobile kid.
00:25He's big.
00:26He's about 6'3", about 220.
00:27He's a gutty kid and had a great performance for Kirk Cignetti.
00:32I can't believe that that Illinois-Indiana game was the game changer for everybody.
00:38I understand he had a great performance, completes 91% of his passes, 292,
00:44five touchdowns through the year.
00:46I believe he's thrown for 15-plus touchdowns and one interception.
00:50So I get that.
00:51But come on.
00:53I mean, you know.
00:54How did he get here, Joe?
00:55I mean, we talk about primetime performers, right?
00:58And that was the big night game for the most part where a lot of people thought
01:03Brett Bielma and the Illini were the dark horse to win the Big Ten.
01:06And Kirk Cignetti and Mendoza stepped up and said, not so fast.
01:10We're going to smack you in the face.
01:12And they beat him down into the ground.
01:15So that's why you're seeing the overreaction.
01:17Do I believe Fernando Mendoza is going to be there come the second week of November?
01:21Absolutely not.
01:22So that's why there is value in this market.
01:25Here, take a look at some of the other guys.
01:26And usually we think of it as like, okay, what's the best quarterback in this marketplace?
01:30But how about Jeremiah Smith, wide receiver, Ohio State, Joe, coming in at 10-1?
01:34He's in number two position as a wide receiver.
01:37So we haven't seen a wide receiver win it since Devontae Smith, right?
01:40But he came on in the second half of the year.
01:43He's got a top performer against Washington, a defense that's only given up around 185 passing yards per game.
01:51They're going to be challenged today.
01:53Could Smith do enough today if, like, he goes off for $1.50, $1.75, and Ohio State wins?
02:02He might go from 10-1.
02:04He was 11-1, I believe, on Monday night.
02:06But is he going to go down to 4-1?
02:08No, I don't think so, Donny, because of the other games, the Georgia game.
02:13The LSU game, the other marquee games, the Penn State game.
02:17So whoever overperforms in those games, I think will have the most gap.
02:22They'll close the gap the most as opposed to Jeremiah Smith.
02:25Now, we're also looking at some of these big games because that's a lot of the times where the public, Joe,
02:30finally gets a feel like, wow, big game performance, big game here.
02:32I've got to vault him up.
02:34Now, we are talking about Happy Valley tonight.
02:35Great game between Oregon and Penn State.
02:37Yes, we know we have talented running backs on the Penn State side.
02:40But understand this, Dante Moore is actually an 11-1 price right now to win the Heisman.
02:44He's the quarterback of Oregon.
02:46Drew Aller, 25-1.
02:48Let's just say Drew Aller, Joe, 275, three touchdown passes, a win over Oregon.
02:53He vaults higher, and the same price there for Dante Moore at 11-1, Joe.
02:57Let's just say if we look at Jeremiah Smith.
02:59Okay, Ohio State wins that football game, but he has 75 yards.
03:02Doesn't really break the bank.
03:04Fernando Mendoza, oh, he's Indiana.
03:05Like, if Dante Moore goes into State College tonight and has a big performance, will he be the leader, Joe, Monday morning for us?
03:11It depends.
03:12Margin of victory.
03:13How does Aller perform?
03:15Is it a 35-34 win?
03:17Aller puts up 300.
03:19Dante Moore puts up 250 and gets two touchdowns.
03:22It's possible.
03:23It really comes down to the eye test, right?
03:26But I'll just say this when we talk about Drew Aller, 25-1.
03:30On the flip side for Jeremiah Smith, right, if Washington, let's say somehow, someway, pulls the victory out,
03:37DeMond Williams is 50-1 to potentially win the Heisman Trophy.
03:42If Washington's going to win, Williams is going to need a big day on the ground and through the air.
03:47They don't have a game, Donnie, outside, like, basically the year-end game against Oregon where they get them in Seattle and Michigan.
03:54They can run the table, DeMond Williams could come flying up the draft, not just the draft boards, but he's not going to leave.
04:03He's a sophomore, but the Heisman odds to be that guy.
04:07So 50-1, if you think Washington is live today, take DeMond Williams at 50-1.
