00:00Rush is a phenomenon. It's an enigma. It's intoxicating.
00:11They're a social media sensation.
00:13Videos on social media got millions of views last year.
00:15They're even more popular this year.
00:17Some people are calling it the NFL draft for women.
00:20I was born to be Greek.
00:23I am the ultimate authority when it comes to Rush on TikTok.
00:26Brandis Bradley has become a TikTok celebrity.
00:30If you're going through Rush, you're going to want to get on my radar.
00:34Rush is the process where sororities recruit new members.
00:38I have had house back to back. I'm just like a sweaty mess.
00:44We're talking multiple outfits, interviews, open houses.
00:47To prep for Rush is a whole process.
00:51I think she's starting to panic.
00:52I might want it more than Emily.
00:54Put that phone down, fucking chill.
00:57Behind every girl going through Rush, there's a mommy right behind her that wants to be
01:01by the sheet of it.
01:02Hotty toddy!
01:03I feel like we're rushing together.
01:04I want to know everything that she's doing.
01:06I'm living vicariously through her.
01:07She's already totally like she doesn't want me there, so that kind of hurt my feelings a
01:11little bit.
01:11If I need to bake cakes and slap her face on the front and deliver it to every single
01:15sorority house, I'm doing it.
01:19Maybe I need counseling or something.
01:21You need to know how to play the game.
01:26We have all these flashcards of each 18 sororities.
01:29The black is just giving grieving widows.
01:32Louder!
01:33Ugh!
01:34Said you wanted my spot.
01:36Red Gucci bag.
01:37My Rush bag.
01:38These parents are willing to drop thousands of dollars on clothes, jewelry, even Rush
01:45consultants.
01:46People do call me the Rush King.
01:48What about Bill Albertson?
01:50We've got this Rush coach.
01:51He's the number one Rush coach in America.
01:54You guys are going to be like in cahoots.
01:56I don't want a cahoot.
01:57There are three important things in a mother's life.
01:59The birth of her child, her daughter's wedding day, and sorority Rush.
02:04What about Nutcracker?
02:05I don't think you want to be a Nutcracker.
02:07That's nasty.
02:10Three, two, one!
02:14Y'all know that rejection is part of it, right?
02:20I did not receive a bid.
02:24Rush week is so hard.
02:26Are y'all preparing for that?
02:27This might be the most competitive year yet.
02:30There's only a limited amount of spots.
02:32I'm literally pacing the bathroom because I'm so nervous.
02:37It's a big deal in our family.
02:40How are you going to handle it if you don't get a house?
02:42I'm Ella, I'm 18, and I'm from Silver Spring, Maryland.
02:52I'm a freshman at Wake Forest, and I'm hoping to join a sorority during Spring Rush.
02:58Dads!
02:59Yeah, babe?
02:59What's that?
03:01Yeah.
03:02I've been researching about Spring Rush, and there's a lot that we need to do.
03:05I was adopted at nine days old by Bill and Jeff, and they're the only parents that I've ever known.
03:12The women in his family have joined AKA, which is a black sorority.
03:16I've always wanted her to pledge.
03:17We've had to talk him down off the ledge a lot.
03:20Without breaking his heart, I don't...
03:22You ain't breaking my heart.
03:23...picture myself going D-9.
03:25D-9, or Divine 9, is all the predominantly what we would call black fraternities and sororities.
03:32They're all at the HBC, Historical Black Colleges.
03:35They also are very active on other campuses as well.
03:39I'm getting past it.
03:40Let's go with that.
03:41You're okay with it.
03:42I'm okay with it.
03:43I want her to enjoy herself.
03:45This is a college experience.
03:47This is the best time.
03:48Yeah, and if she want to do the alpha, five, move, whatever it is, she can do it.
03:54Show us.
03:56I have to do open house, philanthropy, sisterhood, and preference rounds.
04:00I even have to get clothes.
04:03What have you worked on so far?
04:05I've only done my resume.
04:07I need to shop.
04:09Well, that we can do.
04:10Jeff is like my best friend.
04:12We like to spend money, and we like to spend a lot of it.
04:15Right, Bill?
04:15You don't mind.
04:16My dad claims he's a fashionista, but Bill pays for everything.
04:21So I think this could be really cute.
04:24I'm going to do $178.
04:27This makes me happy.
04:29And it makes me sad.
04:30I hear when the cheese come into my credit card.
04:34Ching, ching.
04:35Ching, ching.
04:36Ching, ching.
04:38What else do you need?
04:39Well, I need shoes.
04:41Really?
04:41I'm going to need, like, jewelry, too.
04:43You're going to need your nails done.
04:45Oh, that's a good point.
04:46And you just got her hair done, too?
04:48He loves me.
04:49I love you, too.
04:50You don't show it.
04:51My wallet does.
04:53We're going to make it work.
04:54Isn't that what we always say?
04:56Hi, Barbie!
04:56Growing up, it was really fun.
04:59Oh, you're saying you're...
05:00Y'all can't get to me!
05:03The best part of having two dads is probably that they both are kind of...
05:07I don't want to say clueless in some ways, but I definitely think I can get away with a lot more stuff.
05:13We're supposed to change our attitude and stop parenting, right?
05:16And let her be an adult.
05:18But, um, yeah, that doesn't always go so well.
05:21I guess we're going shopping.
05:22Mmm.
05:24Mmm.
05:26Why don't you do, like, carrots?
05:30Okay.
05:31You don't want onions in the cell?
05:32Well, that's a big hit.
05:35It's carrots.
05:36Okay.
05:37It's my freshman year at Miami University of Ohio, and I love it here, but I really do miss my mom.
05:44How was school, Mom?
05:45Really, really good and getting good grades.
05:47I got a really high GPA this semester, so I was shocked at that.
05:53How I did happy, not shocked, I hope.
05:55My mom and I are really close.
05:58I love that.
05:58I can tell her whatever.
06:00I love being with my children.
06:02They are my number one priority.
06:04You agree with that?
06:04Mm-hmm.
06:05I run my own security company from home, which allows me the luxury of being with Morgan and
06:11Madison and Mitchell, my other two children, all the time.
06:15We are from Coltsman, New Jersey, and we live in Puerto Rico part-time.
06:21Morgan thinks that everyone should be wealthy.
06:23Private jets, like, she thinks that's, like, a norm.
06:27That's not that funny.
06:28Yeah, it's not funny, but it's funny to me.
06:30I think I need more clothes.
06:32Why?
06:33Um, because I'm gonna go through a rush in the spring.
06:38Why?
06:38Because I want to, like, build more relationships with girls at my school and have a special
06:44ball like Maddie does.
06:45My older sister, Madison, goes to a different college, Indiana University.
06:51She rushed and joined a sorority and loves it.
06:54All of Madison's closest friends are her sorority sisters.
06:58I'm hoping to find a great group of friends like Madison did.
07:02You're fine doing all the stuff that Maddie did?
07:05Yep.
07:06I'm excited to, like, experience that on my own.
07:08Okay.
07:08When Morgan told me that she wanted a rush, my stomach started to hurt.
07:12Because things don't come as easy for Morgan as they do for Madison.
07:17I think that the way people have treated her over the years has knocked her down quite a
07:22bad.
07:23So I think she struggles with her confidence.
07:26I worry about Morgan rushing a sorority because she's much harder on the outside than she is
07:31on the inside.
07:32I love being a rush coach because it allows me to take someone, work with them, and see
07:43their dreams come real.
07:45I've had clients from sea to shining sea.
07:48If a girl's going through a rush somewhere in the United States, they know who I am.
07:58Hey, Bill.
08:00Hi.
08:00Here's the princess.
08:02Hey, I'm Bill.
08:03I don't know what spring rush is.
08:05It's a whole different world than it used to be.
08:08We really don't feel that prepared.
08:11Okay.
08:12So, Ella, do you know why I'm here?
08:15A little bit.
08:17A little bit?
08:17You think I'm selling Girl Scout cookies?
08:19Come on.
08:20Daddies, do you all know about sorority rush?
08:25I know a little bit from rushing a fraternity and college, but it looks like it's...
08:30Honey, you're not a spring chick.
08:31So, do you know anything since before color TV that's invented about sorority rush?
08:39No.
08:39Okay.
08:40Bill is extra.
08:42That's for sure.
08:43So, I think his advice is going to be very helpful, even if his delivery is a little frightening.
08:49Now, let's talk about spring rushes around the corner.
08:53Spring rush.
08:54It's a little bit different than fall rush.
08:56Um, okay, guys.
08:57I'm walking to meet my group.
08:59You might be cold, but at least your makeup isn't melting off your face, and your cheeks
09:06are going to get a natural rosy glow.
09:08These girls ain't running home.
09:10They're sliding home.
09:11What have you done to prepare?
09:12I've made my resume, and that's about it.
09:18No videos.
09:20No videos.
09:20Not looking at your social media.
09:22You've got your rush bag all planned out.
09:24No, sir, no.
09:28What's a rush bag?
09:31Serious question?
09:33Yeah, serious question.
09:34I never heard of a rush bag.
09:35Do you know what a rush bag is?
09:38No, I do not know what a rush bag is.
09:40All right.
09:40It's like a survival kit.
09:44A rush bag is basically your kindergarten box for the field trip.
09:50The goal is to be prepared for anything and everything.
09:54Portable charger.
09:55Brush and toothpaste.
09:57Double-sided fashion tape.
09:58A little mini hairspray.
10:00Bring in my tanning mist, just in case mine starts to fade.
10:02You don't want to sit there and go, oh, my God, I need my lotion, I need my lotion, and you don't have it.
10:07Lord have mercy, Bill just came in, and we already got work to do.
10:12You have three days of rush.
10:14What are you going to wear those three days?
10:16I'm not exactly sure yet.
10:18Bill is scaring the hell out of us.
10:20Do we have outfits that hit all categories?
10:24No.
10:25And I'm thinking about, oh, my God, we got to get all this stuff done.
10:29So you stay on campus in a dorm?
10:31Mm-hmm.
10:32Okay, cool.
10:32How's that working out?
10:33It's good.
10:37Do you like having people all around all the time?
10:39Yeah.
10:40Right?
10:41And rush is around the corner?
10:44Mm-hmm.
10:45Okay, yes, we're going to work on complete words.
10:47Mm-hmm is not a word.
10:48Yes.
10:49Yes, it's a good start.
10:50Yeah, we're going to work on speaking skills.
10:52And the reason we're doing that is because at rush, you can't just sit and go, mm-hmm, yeah, mm-hmm, yeah.
10:57I'm really trying to get her to talk.
11:00I got to get her coming out.
11:01I got to get her being comfortable putting herself out there where she needs to be.
11:06Now, many times, girls that have darker skin pigmentation than me...
11:10Yes.
11:10...go denying.
11:11Have you considered doing that?
11:13I decided not to.
11:15I didn't think it was really me.
11:16Did dads have different opinions?
11:19Yes.
11:19She's going to this all-white school, for the most part.
11:23I didn't want her to be a token.
11:24I want her to find her a true sisterhood.
11:28Someone who's going to back you.
11:30Someone who understands where you've come from.
11:34Someone who has lived your experience.
11:37I think those are all true points.
11:39However, I got something to surprise you with.
11:41Sure.
11:41She's already seen that and lived it.
11:43Mm-hmm.
11:44You've already raised her so well.
11:46I believe that she's going to be okay, and she's going to be in every environment.
11:52Mm-hmm.
11:53I mean, it's already there.
11:55Not wanting to rush D-9.
11:57It's her choice.
11:58We shouldn't question that.
12:00We should celebrate choice.
12:02What's on your to-do list?
12:04I have to get ideas of each day and what outfits to wear.
12:08I have to start getting ideas for my rush bag.
12:12Get a rush bag.
12:13Yeah, get a rush bag.
12:15How to initiate and start a conversation that's in our future.
12:18Yes.
12:19Of all the people I've worked with, this is an example of true need.
12:24We need some Jesus.
12:26Those two guys don't have a clue about Sorority Rush, and they know they need help.
12:33They've got to put gas in the car, put it in drive, and get down the road.
12:40Sorority Rush is like the Personality Olympics.
12:42Part interview, part presentation, part networking.
12:46Let the true youth shine through.
12:48Be enthusiastic.
12:49You should be proud about yourself.
12:51You want to be remembered and gain Rush Crush status.
12:53You have to answer the question and then build upon it.
12:56This next question is the infamous, what made you decide to rush?
12:59This is a question that you will 100% be asked.
13:01Show us who you are.
13:02Show us your personality.
13:04Show us your quirkiness.
13:05That's the stuff that makes you charming.
13:09I decided to hire Bill, a Rush coach, to help Morgan get prepared for rushing a sorority.
13:16Bill, how's it going?
13:17Well, hello.
13:18Hi, I'm Morgan.
13:19Hello.
13:22Okay, so why do you want to rush?
13:24Could you please open it for me?
13:26Well, I want to rush because I want to find, like, people that are like me.
13:31All right, let's start over.
13:32Sometimes you look down because it's an uncomfortable emotional thing.
13:35So I need you to look at me.
13:36Or laughs.
13:37That's another one.
13:38Well, I want to rush because, well, Miami.
13:44Look at me.
13:44I'm talking, I'm seeing a pattern with Morgan.
13:46She constantly looks down.
13:48It's a total lack of confidence.
13:50That's a major no-no for Rush.
13:54You've got to look at the people and talk to them.
13:56When we want to show that you're confident, you look at them in the eyes.
13:58Look at them in the eyes.
13:59You know because I always tell you guys.
14:01This is, you hear me, see me in your thinking.
14:04So let's try it one more time with enthusiasm.
14:07Well, I want to rush because I want to form these special friendships
14:11because in the past I've had, like, girls not treat me the nicest.
14:15She was friends with them.
14:16I probably shouldn't have hung out with the girls.
14:18She's the one who includes everyone.
14:21Every time I ask Morgan a question, Julie cuts her off and Julie gives the answer.
14:26Julie, you're not going through Rush, darling.
14:29It's my daughter.
14:30Right?
14:31Pat.
14:32Explainable.
14:33Mm-hmm.
14:34Totally not justifiable, though.
14:35I think that my mom jumps into the conversations
14:39because sometimes I get distracted very easily.
14:43You're very independent.
14:44You are not.
14:46You're independent with the swimmies on.
14:48I'm worried by Julie babying Morgan.
14:51She's not helping her.
14:53She's actually slowing her growth.
14:56Julie, you've enabled this.
14:58And so we're going to work on let mom step away from Morgan.
15:01And I like how independent she is.
15:04She's becoming.
15:05Of course.
15:06Because you want her to be you, sweetie, and she's not, Julie.
15:09I know, but she's almost there.
15:10And that's hard.
15:11No, she's not going to be you.
15:13That's the life lesson today.
15:16I know.
15:16Julie wants Morgan to be tough.
15:18She doesn't want her to get hurt.
15:20If Morgan's going to be tough enough to face the challenges of Rush,
15:23mom, move over and get out of the way and let this girl go forward.
15:28So you have this beautiful life.
15:29Privileged princess.
15:30But I think you've realized things and substance and whatever,
15:34that's not what makes us happy.
15:35Yes.
15:36Morgan's homework is simple.
15:37Complete all of your application process by yourself.
15:43Her sister's already gone through Rush.
15:44She is a great resource, particularly when it's time to film the Rush video.
15:49And mom, your homework is going to be this.
15:51Morgan may tell you what she needs to have done,
15:53but Morgan's going to do it.
15:54You're not.
15:55Yeah.
15:56I want Morgan to take more initiative.
15:59It's going to build her confidence.
16:00It's going to make her more self-reliant.
16:02And it's going to let her feel that she finally is in control of her life.
16:08We've got to take the swimmings off, right?
16:10Yeah.
16:11We're going to get the deep end.
16:12And if you drown, you're done.
16:21It's just so good that we're going to have help in getting all this done.
16:24You know, it's like one of those forced family fun days.
16:28Oh, honey, we can drag you behind an 18-wheeler with that up at all.
16:32It seems that Jeff gets to do all the fun outings with Ella.
16:35I ain't got to get to the bottom of that.
16:37But in the meantime, I need to see if Ella's been working on her interview skills.
16:42So let's kind of play a little thing.
16:44Ella, what are you doing this spring?
16:45I'm going to try out for the cheer team.
16:48Okay, let's don't make it so light, direct answer,
16:50because Bill said, say, talk about cheer team.
16:51Are you enjoying your time at Wake, and did you visit before you went?
16:55We visited, like, once or twice.
16:58That was just with Dad.
17:00Bill didn't go.
17:01I'm sure he's got some reason.
17:04I take care of the dogs, and I got a broke back.
17:06Do you think sometimes Bill uses,
17:08my back hurts, I don't want to go?
17:10Oh, 100%.
17:10Honestly.
17:11I've been the one that has taken the lead when it comes to her clothing.
17:16And Bill, Bill does not like shopping,
17:19because of all the drama.
17:20All the drama.
17:21I wanted to be involved, but, you know, for me, it's hard.
17:26What other schools did you visit?
17:27I visited UNC.
17:30UNC is a rival of Wake Forest, right?
17:33Yes.
17:33And you decided not to go to UNC.
17:36Well, I got rejected from UNC.
17:38We're not saying that.
17:40We chose Wake Forest.
17:41We chose Wake Forest.
17:43I looked at UNC, and I looked at Wake Forest,
17:45and I knew that this was the fit for me.
17:47Right.
17:47So, Ella's making some improvement with her interview skills.
17:51But now I've got to work with her to become more conversational.
17:54She doesn't need to sound so scripted and stiff.
17:57You're going to respond to two to four of the questions below.
18:03How can you incorporate your personal values into the sorority experience?
18:07I feel like that's a really good question.
18:08Yeah, why don't we say it?
18:09Okay.
18:11Bill wants me to work on my Rush video.
18:13So, instead of asking my mom, I'm taking ownership and asking Madison for tips.
18:19Do you know that this video is, like, the first impression that all the sororities are
18:23going to be seeing this even before you rush?
18:25Yeah.
18:26Well, like, I didn't know that.
18:29So, there's 17 sororities, and then it narrows down to 11.
18:33And this video, your application, is how they make the first cut.
18:36So, you really want to show who you are and give off a great first impression.
18:40Yeah, that's, like, a little bit scary, too.
18:42So, now this has to be, like, perfect.
18:45So, start off, hi, my name is Morgan Feldman.
18:47I am currently a freshman, and I'm from Colts Neck.
18:51Oh, no, I'm nervous.
18:53Don't be nervous.
18:54Channel Bill.
18:56You know how confident he is.
18:57Okay, I'm going to start it.
18:59Hi, my name is Morgan Feldman.
19:01Oh, that was bad.
19:02Mo, like, I know the person you are.
19:04We've all seen you grow so much.
19:06Like, give off the vibe that you want to be doing this.
19:09You're really excited, and you're confident in yourself.
19:12The rush video makes me nervous because the video is sorority's first impression of me.
19:17Be yourself.
19:18Be happy.
19:18Be smiley.
19:19Like, peppy.
19:21Like, turn on your, like, ears.
19:22I'll be like, hi, I'm Morgan Feldman.
19:24I'm a freshman.
19:26Oh, my God.
19:27They're not going to like me.
19:28You're trying too hard.
19:30You're just trying to be, like, a Kardashian right now.
19:32Hey, I'm Morgan Feldman.
19:34I'm a freshman.
19:34No!
19:35Do you feel like pressure to get into a sorority?
19:38Yeah, I do.
19:40I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself to get this right.
19:43If I don't get into a house, I am scared that I won't find the friendships and bonds that
19:47I'm looking for.
19:49I'm redoing that because that was just not good.
19:51Also, smile.
19:52Confidence is an asset to these chapters.
20:00If you're anything less than confident, you're just going to be dead weight and they ain't
20:04going to want you.
20:06I swear some of my most favorite conversations and memories were just from talking to the
20:10girls around me.
20:11Be as confident as possible.
20:13Don't, like, overly confident.
20:13Like, I love your outfit.
20:14I love your hair.
20:15Be authentic and be your true self.
20:17They had very limited time in these houses getting to show these sororities who they
20:23are.
20:24You need to break the mold, but you've got to figure out how to do it without breaking
20:27the cookie.
20:33Morgan, you're too tense.
20:34Have fun with it and talk like you're just talking to me.
20:37I've been through this.
20:38It's like, I know what it's like and I'm here for you.
20:41You're welcome.
20:42Okay, should we finally do this video?
20:44Do you feel better now?
20:45Yeah, I do.
20:46If I get it wrong, then we'll just redo it and then the second time, it'll be better.
20:50Okay.
20:51Hi, my name is Morgan Bauman.
20:53I am a freshman and I'm from Colston, New Jersey.
20:56I bring to the sorority loyalty because that is something I bring to my own friendships
21:02and I want others to treat me the same way.
21:06Yeah, that was better.
21:07Do you know how to submit it?
21:09No.
21:10Oh, my gosh, Morgan.
21:15Well, all right.
21:17I kind of want you to try this on.
21:18Do you like this?
21:19I'm done to try it on.
21:20Oh, and the same thing.
21:22Perfect.
21:22Might go with jeans.
21:24Yeah.
21:24Everybody's going to have a black dress.
21:26I don't know if everybody's going to have a green one.
21:30Are you all seeing what's going on?
21:32Because you're not even speaking.
21:34We're taking it all in, Bill.
21:35No, and we're not looking at a process.
21:37I'm not.
21:38I'm looking at the beauty.
21:40Well, that's me.
21:43All right, madam, if you'll put that down for privacy, please, and go in there.
21:46All right, so we're starting the process.
21:50I need you to be a little bit more engaged.
21:53You know what I'm going to have you do?
21:55You're going to hold this up and say, how about this for a rush back that I found?
21:59I want you to take credit.
22:01Okay.
22:02That you found this, and you're giving her her rush back.
22:06Okay.
22:07Bill has allowed Jeff to carry the ball the whole game, and he's left out.
22:12When she comes out, I want you to hold up and go, look what I found.
22:15What I'm seeing happens is that where they're doing this, supporting her instead of this.
22:22That's cute.
22:23Do you like it?
22:24Yeah, I like it.
22:25All right.
22:30Number two.
22:30Next one.
22:31What happened, mute?
22:34You're holding it in your hand.
22:36Seriously?
22:38All right.
22:38All right.
22:40That's cute.
22:41Oh, that's cute.
22:42Okay.
22:43I like it.
22:44You like it?
22:45Yes, I do.
22:46And look what I got for you.
22:48I think somebody has found you what he thinks would be the cutest rush bag.
22:55I like it.
22:56Well, thank you, love.
23:01I appreciate it.
23:02He didn't look at the price tag either.
23:04So let's just put this over here in Ella's little prize packet, Sandy Claus.
23:09Now, go put on that long knit thing.
23:11All right.
23:15Wow.
23:16Y'all, this looks dynamite.
23:18I do like this.
23:19I know you like this.
23:20Okay, do you have boots?
23:22No, I do not.
23:23How does she not have a pair of boots?
23:25Y'all are the worst gays.
23:27I've asked her if she wanted some boots, and she says no.
23:30I'm not a fan of this one.
23:32You're not a fan?
23:33Is it too sparkly for you?
23:35Yeah.
23:36Do you have any, like, little pearl, little stretchy bracelets that all the girls are wearing and stuff?
23:41Those are really cute, too.
23:42But they are really cute.
23:43Things like that, I want you finished.
23:46Got it?
23:47We're all together?
23:48Yep.
23:48Everybody good?
23:49With Rush starting in just a couple of days, the stress, it's real.
23:53Ella has to remember what I taught her, and she has to apply it.
23:58Well, let's back and roll.
23:59Oh, okay.
24:09All righty.
24:10I'm back with Morgan, and hopefully when we're shopping, we're going to continue to give her a confidence boost.
24:16And they're going to get to see who Morgan is.
24:20Let's focus on the first two days a lot.
24:22I like those jeans for philanthropy.
24:24Okay.
24:25Okay, we can try these on.
24:26I like these bodysuits for, like, sisterhood.
24:31Then let me find something to put over that.
24:34I like that sheer top.
24:36Yeah, but this looks like a kangaroo.
24:42Well, hippity-hoppity-hop-hop-hop.
24:44I wasn't picking that out.
24:46Okay, so do we have everything?
24:48I think we have good start.
24:50Let's put this in the dressing room.
24:51We'll play fashion show.
24:52So, clearly, she's been thinking and doing some work.
24:57She has.
24:58She's been trying, like, with her sister.
25:01I'm happy that it's settled in and it's making sense.
25:04She's immediately started talking with me.
25:06She's very engaged.
25:07She's purposeful.
25:08She's focused.
25:08I noticed some of the things when I talked to her about what we're doing.
25:12I mean, she was like, if she hadn't thought about something, it was deer in headlights.
25:16Right.
25:16And I'm seeing the growth in her.
25:19So, kudos to you for staying focused.
25:22Okay, I really like this, actually.
25:25I love the skirt.
25:26The skirt's fabulous.
25:27I want you to put on the green lace sheer.
25:31When I first met Morgan, I guess she was just shell-shocked.
25:35She's engaged today.
25:37She's talking.
25:38We're communicating.
25:39Oh, my God, this is very cute.
25:42Oh, it is.
25:43I kind of like, for sisterhood, this.
25:46Dressing for the University of Miami of Ohio is a lot different than dressing for Rush at Ole Miss or Alabama.
25:54When you go through Rush at Alabama, it's 95 to 100 degrees plus humidity.
25:59When you go through Rush in Ohio in the middle of dadgum winter, it may be 25 degrees outside.
26:04Yay!
26:05Morgan's heading back to school.
26:06I'm hoping it works out the same way it did for Madison.
26:11I definitely have fears and reservations, but I think Morgan needs to do this on her own.
26:16How do you present yourself?
26:24Now, if you don't have a sense of style, that's different.
26:26But if you have a sense of style, you want them to kind of see who you are.
26:30Shoes are from Ray on Revolve.
26:32They'll be my favorite.
26:32If you're dressing for your college, what you might wear at sorority recruitment for the University of Alabama would get you the side eye at the University of Arizona.
26:41Action is a statement.
26:44You better make sure you're sending the right message to these sororities.
26:46Hey, Bill.
26:48I'm doing what you asked of me.
26:50I'm practicing using longer sentences and not one-word responses, so here I go.
26:55The reason why I'm doing Panhellenic Rush instead of D9 is to prove a point to myself.
27:01I feel like growing up, I was definitely a follower.
27:03And now that I'm older, I want to be a leader.
27:05I want to show that I can do what I want to do without listening to other people's opinions.
27:10Anyways, I'm videoing this to show you that I'm taking your advice.
27:14Bye.
27:22Hi.
27:24How are you?
27:25Hi, baby.
27:27I'm so excited.
27:28Are you excited to go back?
27:30Yes, already.
27:31Tell her about, like, rushing it.
27:33So there's 15 sororities, and, like, you choose, like, your top five based off, like, the welcome round.
27:38I mean, you're under a lot of pressure.
27:40Like, it's not, you go to a big school, right?
27:43Yeah, like, you know.
27:44So it's not, like, 15 girls that's trying to rush.
27:47Like, it's a lot.
27:49What if I don't get into a sorority, would you be upset?
27:53I definitely wouldn't be upset for, like, me.
27:57I'd be upset for you because I know how much you really want this, and I feel very bad that you didn't.
28:02But you'll find your fit.
28:04It'll happen.
28:05Yeah.
28:06If you're meant to be, you're meant to be.
28:08Ella.
28:09So, how are you feeling about this sorority rush?
28:14I'm excited.
28:15I'm excited to be back on campus and to see all my friends again.
28:18Okay.
28:19So what are some of the lessons that you, you know, got from Bill?
28:23I think learning how to speak in full sentences is definitely, like, the main one.
28:28And, you know, just, like, telling my story and everything like that.
28:31I feel so blessed to have you.
28:34You have been the most important thing in our lives for a long time.
28:38I appreciate it.
28:39Love you.
28:41I love you, too.
28:42You know how I feel.
28:43I do know how you feel.
28:45I know this is going to be a little bit stressful, but have faith in yourself.
28:50We know what a wonderful person you are.
28:52Any sorority will be lucky to have you.
28:56We love you.
28:57We love you, baby.
28:57Hey, love.
29:07Don't you look fabulous?
29:08Bill's coming back one final time before Morgan goes back to rush.
29:12You're a businesswoman.
29:13You're a control freak.
29:14And the very first time we talked, I became aware that you would love for her to go through
29:21bumper pull lanes for the rest of her life, that you can protect her from all sharp objects.
29:26I don't want to do that.
29:27I want her to grow.
29:29That's it.
29:30So for Rush Week, our plan is this.
29:31Okay.
29:32What I would even say is, honey, don't call me after every party.
29:35We'll regroup at night.
29:36I believe in you, and I know you're going to soar.
29:40Julie finally has the right attitude.
29:41She is not doing everything for Morgan anymore.
29:45I know that that one thing is changing Morgan's life, and it's going to put her in the best
29:49position for Rush, and in turn, the best position for her at school.
29:53How many times have your kids seen you cry out?
29:56Hmm.
29:57That's only when people die.
29:59There are a lot of cry.
30:00We all discuss this.
30:01You never cry in front of your enemy, and you cry in the bathroom, and then you wash your
30:06face, and you move on.
30:08That's wonderful advice.
30:09Correct.
30:09But not for a family.
30:12This conversation is dead on.
30:15It feels like he knows my whole life story, like he only met me for a short time.
30:21I want you to verbally hug her.
30:25That's very funny.
30:27Kind of hard, because...
30:29You're a tough broad.
30:29And it's very hard to understand that, yes.
30:32Yes, you're tough.
30:32It's very funny.
30:33You are not going to let life beat you down.
30:37Bill wants me to be there for Morgan emotionally.
30:39He also wants me to teach her the motivation and the independence to do this on her own,
30:46so she could knock it out of the park.
30:48Paperwork done?
30:49Yes.
30:50Clothes.
30:51God Almighty, thank God.
30:53Yes.
30:53With shoes.
30:54Video's done.
30:56Yes.
30:57I'm proud of Morgan.
30:58She did the interview process herself.
31:00She completed her video.
31:01Hi, my name is Morgan Baldwin, and I'm a freshman from Colstack, New Jersey.
31:05I'm so excited to get back on campus and rush.
31:08She's doing all this without mom doing or hovering.
31:11That's progress.
31:13We checked all the boxes.
31:15Yeah.
31:15It's been fun to get to know you, because the blonde bombshell is not interesting to me,
31:21but Morgan is.
31:24All right, so I'm going to go.
31:28We work hard.
31:29Take care.
31:31Morgan's confidence level has increased because of Bill, because Bill, he understood her,
31:38and she really cherishes that, and I think that builds her confidence quite a bit.
31:43You're going to walk Bill out?
31:45I'm nervous, but I'm excited.
31:47If I don't get into the house, I am scared that I won't find the friendships and bonds that
31:52I'm looking for.
31:53And thank you for bringing Bill.
31:55Rush week is many times the first time a girl really sees, eats, and breathes stress.
32:03It's stressful, because you have to be on all day.
32:07And then the next day to find out, was I good?
32:10You got the smoke.
32:12It's a lot of pressure.
32:15Failure's not an option.
32:16I'm going to be on all day.
32:18I'm going to be on the S-T-I-S-T-E-R-S.
32:23Grab your popcorn, people, and put that phone on silent.
32:26It's rush week.
32:28This time last year, I was, like, shaking in my boots.
32:31I prepared for recruitment.
32:32I'm so excited to meet everyone, and I literally can't believe that, like, it's happening today.
32:36We're so excited.
32:37Forty Rush is almost like your eat, pray, love moment for college.
32:43You're discovering who you are after high school.
32:48Open house, I kind of like to say that it's the beginning of the Olympics.
32:52You know, when they do the opening ceremonies?
32:54It's building up.
32:55This is actually happening.
32:57It's starting.
32:58Hey, guys, today's day one of Rush.
33:03Relax.
33:06Good morning.
33:07It's day one of Rush.
33:08Here's my OOTD.
33:10OOTD stands for Outfit of the Day.
33:13You can't show up for an office job interview in a Hooters outfit.
33:19They're going to know you ain't serious.
33:21The same goes for sorority row.
33:24I have the chin and the shirt, and some jeans, and some sneakers.
33:29I'm not too nervous about today, just because the excitement is just taking over.
33:33I've been waiting so long for this moment.
33:35It's unreal.
33:37The fact that I'm going to know what sorority I'm in by the end of the week.
33:41Oh, my God.
33:42Okay.
33:43Well, that makes the nerves come in.
33:47The first big day is philanthropy.
33:49Philanthropy, it's each sorority's charity.
33:52I kind of call speed dating a sorority.
33:55Philanthropy doesn't have real long meetings, but it's very much blind date, get to know each other.
34:03Okay, so I got five back out of the seven from philanthropy.
34:09Five's okay.
34:10Five's okay.
34:10That's not bad.
34:11It was just so overwhelming.
34:13Like, I totally didn't expect, like, voices and conversations to be on top of one another.
34:20But now you're dealing with it, and you're not running from it, and that's very important.
34:25Right.
34:25I only have, like, two I would consider out of the five.
34:29Okay.
34:30Right now, my two favorite houses are DZ and AZD.
34:34If I don't get these two houses, I don't know what I'm going to do.
34:37Like, the other ones, I just don't vibe with, and I don't see myself there.
34:40That's okay, but if we start worrying that I'm not going to get it, then you start bringing in what they would say negative karma.
34:49All you need is the one.
34:50Does that make sense?
34:52Yeah.
34:52A lot of these girls come from a place where they feel like they are a big fish in a small pond.
34:59Some of these girls ain't never been rejected.
35:02Then they show up to Rush Week, and they learn real quick that they ain't in a pond anymore.
35:07They are in an ocean, and there are plenty of fish in the sea.
35:12All right.
35:12How you feeling, baby?
35:14So here's my issue.
35:15If she doesn't get that sorority, she falls apart.
35:18And I think she thinks that everything is just going to be great, and life is not always that great.
35:24Listen, as a parent, it's good for me because it's been really hard.
35:28Like, I would have flown down today or yesterday and been there, right?
35:34But then again, it would have been weird.
35:37I should not be doing that, right?
35:39Okay, yeah.
35:39This is all new to you.
35:41I know how badly Julie is itching to get on that plane to fly from Puerto Rico to Ohio.
35:46And she's not.
35:48But that's progress.
35:49It's time to let Morgan finish her Rush Week.
35:52This was a good process, but who knows?
35:55Only time will tell.
35:58Hey there.
36:00Hi.
36:01How's it going?
36:02No one-word answers, right?
36:04Yeah, I was like, I was able to use your advice of today because I got compliments on the sweater.
36:10So that also helped kind of steer the conversation.
36:14So that was really good.
36:15All right, now you're thinking and you saw it work.
36:19You know, I'm not trying to be at the note all because I know I know it all.
36:22But the point is this.
36:23You're feeling it and seeing it.
36:26Tell me the numbers.
36:27Out of the possible six, I got three back.
36:30Not as high as I'd like it to be.
36:34Remember this.
36:35You just need one dance.
36:36Okay.
36:37We want them to see your personality and see your emotion.
36:40Okay?
36:40Yes.
36:41Ella only getting three out of six houses back after sisterhood.
36:45That's a little concerning.
36:46She cannot afford to be dropped by another sorority at this point.
36:57Informal recruitment process.
37:00If you don't get the bid you want on bid day or you don't get a bid at all, all hope is not completely lost.
37:07There is still a way that you can get a bid and join a chapter and it's called continuous open bidding.
37:12The individual events are a lot more casual than formal recruitment.
37:18Sisterhood, the sorority is much more intent with their evaluation.
37:23Okay, but so what's the update in the rush?
37:27How's it going?
37:28I was pretty bummed because now that AZD dropped me, now I only have one that I liked.
37:34DZ.
37:35There's no reason you should be losing sleep over this.
37:38You're going to end up where you're supposed to be at the end of the day.
37:41You just have to trust that.
37:42When I saw the other girls opening their slip, it was like smiles, excitement, and then there's just me.
37:50And I felt alone.
37:51It doesn't matter.
37:52Like, if this is your experience, you can't compare it to everyone else.
37:55Like, you're on your own journey.
37:57There's people that literally didn't even do a video but then got the best houses.
38:02Like, I just don't understand.
38:04Wait, there's literally no such thing as top house.
38:06Like, you need to, like, take that idea and literally just throw it out to end up.
38:09And try and be yourself, Morgan.
38:11Right, Matt?
38:13Yes.
38:14Okay.
38:16We love you, Morgan.
38:17You look gorgeous.
38:30You look good.
38:32So, today we met for, like, an hour, which is, like, the longest out of all rounds.
38:39And today I kind of felt like the conversations weren't as good.
38:43And then I got oil, like, all over my dress.
38:46It was horrible.
38:46You can't waste time going back and second-guessing yourself, what you did, what you said, anything.
38:53You know, just have faith that this will work out and you will end up in the right place.
39:00They will be very lucky to have you.
39:02Yeah.
39:03Right.
39:05Hey, you.
39:06Hey, you.
39:07What's going on, love?
39:09ZZ was always my top and I got dropped from them today.
39:12So, I've decided to drop out of rush.
39:17Okay.
39:17So, how are you, first off?
39:20It's been hard.
39:21Why didn't they pick me in the first place?
39:23Like, is it off the video?
39:24I didn't expect it to go like this.
39:27So, honestly, just, like, it's really hard.
39:30Morgan just told me her other favorite, DZ, dropped her.
39:33And she doesn't want to go for it.
39:35Now I'm going to do informal, so I'm hoping it's going to be better.
39:39I think informal rush is going to be good for you because all the sororities that didn't make quota are now able to do it individually.
39:49I have had girls actually end up in better sororities than they ever had during rush, going through the informal rush after.
39:58Right.
39:58Because they got comfortable with themselves and the people realized, we lost you in a video chat.
40:04We lost you off a piece of paper.
40:06You know, they don't even know you.
40:08Yeah.
40:08I want Morgan to get into a sorority.
40:10I want her to succeed.
40:12She's been doing so well.
40:14She has spread her own wings.
40:15She is flying herself.
40:17And I do believe when the door is closed, God can open a window.
40:23All right, love.
40:24I'm here if you need me.
40:25You know that.
40:30Big day is Christmas.
40:34And did Santa come and bring you what you want?
40:37Are you getting coal and switches?
40:40It's exciting.
40:41There's some tears that are shed.
40:43Sometimes girls end up in other places and they want a number one and they got number two.
40:47The way I look at big day is the war is over.
40:50Hey, guys.
40:55I've been dying to know.
40:57I got Delta Zeta.
40:58Come on, I'm dizzy too.
41:01I am so proud of her.
41:04She found her voice and she was able to land in a house that is a great, perfect fit for her.
41:10I could not be more ecstatic for her.
41:13Bill and Jeff, I hope, are just the proudest two dads ever.
41:18She's right where she needs to be.
41:22What's going on?
41:23What happened?
41:24Well, I got good news.
41:26I got high five.
41:29What?
41:29Yay!
41:30How do you feel?
41:31I'm so excited.
41:33I'm very happy for you.
41:35This is going to be better because these girls liked you and wanted you and they got to know you.
41:40The real Morgan.
41:43Love you so much.
41:45She took a very challenging and then ultimately disappointing formal rush week.
41:49Turn it on its head and look where she is now.
41:52Now Morgan's in a house that fits her.
41:54She's already making deep friendships with new sisters.
41:57And I made myself proud.
