00:00Rush is a phenomenon, it's an enigma, it's intoxicating.
00:11You're a social media sensation.
00:13Videos on social media got millions of views last year.
00:16They're even more popular this year.
00:17Some people are calling it the NFL Draft for Women.
00:20I was born to be Greek.
00:23I am the ultimate authority when it comes to Rush on TikTok.
00:27Brandis Bradley has become a TikTok celebrity.
00:30If you're going through Rush, you're going to want to get on my radar.
00:33Rush is the process where sororities recruit new members.
00:38I have had house back to back.
00:41I'm just like a sweaty mess.
00:44We're talking multiple outfits, interviews, open houses.
00:47To prep for Rush is a whole process.
00:50I think she's starting to panic.
00:52I might want it more than Emily.
00:55Put that phone down.
00:57Behind every girl going through Rush,
00:59there's a mommy right behind her that wants it as bad as she does.
01:02Hotty toddy!
01:03I feel like we're rushing together.
01:04I want to know everything that she's doing.
01:06I'm living vicariously through her.
01:07She's already told me, like, she doesn't want me there.
01:09So that kind of hurt my feelings a little bit.
01:11If I need to bake cakes and slap her face on the front
01:14and deliver it to every single sorority house, I'm doing it.
01:17Maybe I need counseling or something.
01:22You need to know how to play the game.
01:26We have all these flashcards of each 18 sororities.
01:29The black is just giving grieving widows.
01:32Louder!
01:33You said you want my spot.
01:35Red Gucci bag, my Rush bag.
01:38These parents are willing to drop thousands of dollars on clothes, jewelry, even Rush consultants.
01:45People do call me the Rush king.
01:48What about Bill Albertson?
01:49We've got this Rush coach.
01:51He's the number one Rush coach in America.
01:54You guys are going to be, like, in coots.
01:56What a hoot.
01:57There are three important things in a mother's life.
01:59The birth of her child, her daughter's wedding day, and sorority rush.
02:04What about nutcracker?
02:05I don't think you want to be a nutcracker. That's nasty.
02:08Three, two, one.
02:15Y'all know that rejection is part of it, right?
02:20I did not receive a bid.
02:23Rush week is so hard.
02:26Are y'all preparing for that?
02:28This might be the most competitive year yet.
02:30There's only a limited amount of spots.
02:32I'm literally pacing the bathroom because I'm so nervous.
02:36It's a big deal in our family.
02:39How are you going to handle it if you don't get a house?
02:49Everybody thinks you go to college to study to get your degree. True.
02:53But another education you get while you're in college is life.
02:57Greek life helps and assists you with that because it's providing you a group of people that like you and that you like.
03:05You learn how to get along with people.
03:07You learn how to navigate yourself.
03:09Greek life really sums it up.
03:11Hey, y'all. It's Alexis, and all I've been working on is a rush.
03:14It's three weeks away, and if you're not working on the rush, what do you do?
03:18I'm going to Ole Miss.
03:24Hotty toddy. I'm super excited.
03:26But everyone in my family went to the University of Georgia.
03:30It was a bit of a shock that I chose Ole Miss.
03:36My family has always been active in sororities.
03:40It's a big deal in the South.
03:42I went to the University of Georgia.
03:44I'm a bulldog.
03:46I had a lot of friends in different sororities.
03:48But I was more involved with the Kappa organization.
03:55Those are mine.
03:56This is me.
03:57You can take one to rush if you want to.
03:59Lexi came into my life when I was 60 years old.
04:03She had difficult circumstances with a family that was unable to take care of her.
04:09And when I took Lexi and held her in my arm, I knew I was going to keep her for the rest of her life.
04:15I would say it was about kindergarten when I realized, oh, my mom is actually a lot older than everyone else.
04:21Like, everyone thinks she's my grandma. What's going on?
04:24It was kind of challenging.
04:26My mom, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
04:29But she is literally a helicopter mom.
04:32When I was in Italy, I saw this and I said, Rush, my Lexi will look like a million dollars in this restaurant.
04:41She tracks my car.
04:43So that I can see wherever she is.
04:46She tracks my location.
04:48She tracks the speed I'm going.
04:50That's for safety.
04:51Love it.
04:53David Yerman.
04:55All of my outfits have to be very appropriate for the occasion.
04:58It's really annoying.
05:00Perfect rush dress.
05:01What these moms will spend for their daughters to have the perfect rush experience?
05:07It's unbelievable.
05:08And it becomes this crazy neurotic kind of existence that's gone wackadoodle.
05:14All of these gifts I got from my mom.
05:17It's like a cute leave.
05:18It's on my cooler.
05:20Thank you so much, mom.
05:21I love you.
05:22I just don't think this is super appropriate for Rush.
05:28Stop.
05:29Can we stop for a minute?
05:30Here's the deal.
05:32Whether you like it or not, I want you to be totally prepared.
05:37People think that I'm just like Princess Lexi and everything's perfect and easy, but she's used to being the boss.
05:44She's never had anyone telling her what to do.
05:47I would pick it up and say, that's really cute.
05:49I said, I don't think it's for me at Rush.
05:52Okay.
05:53Is what I said.
05:54I definitely want to be in a sorority.
05:58I kind of grew up around it.
05:59Like I just really want to be where I fit in with the girls the most.
06:02And the distance is really like top of the list on pros and cons.
06:07They're perfect.
06:08You can leave them on.
06:09Okay.
06:10But I need to be independent.
06:12I need to kind of find myself.
06:15I'm super excited to go by myself.
06:17At least until mom moves in next door.
06:19My dream was to come to USC.
06:26I'm a sophomore.
06:27I'm actually going to get my English degree and try to go to law school.
06:31During my freshman year, I seriously was just a hermit.
06:34I had no social life whatsoever.
06:36I was so nervous to make friends.
06:38I thought they were going to think like, what is this country bumpkin doing?
06:42Like this girl is literally a hick from this town I've never heard of.
06:46These girls are completely different than me.
06:48Like I still want to go get my nails done Friday.
06:51But like Saturday, I got to be back home because I got to go fishing with my dad.
06:55I was hoping that when I went to college, I was just going to be able to walk in and make a huge group of friends on the first day.
07:02But I soon realized that it was not like that at all.
07:05So what are they all planning on doing about the sorority stuff?
07:08I've been looking up some stuff about sorority coaches.
07:12Because I never rushed because I didn't go to school.
07:14I'm very proud of Hadley.
07:16She's the only one of us that's ever been to university.
07:19So it's a really big accomplishment.
07:21There are some things that I would rather sacrifice to see her have.
07:25I want better for her than he and I ever had.
07:29How much do you think of the goals?
07:30It could be upwards of $1,000 to have a coach.
07:35So does she need this to get into the sorority?
07:38I would say yes.
07:39Because she doesn't know who to lean on.
07:41We don't know anything.
07:42And sororities are very, very competitive from what I understand.
07:46Especially in Southern colleges.
07:49Can we afford it?
07:51We've always been able to make it somehow.
07:53We'll make it this time.
07:54So I guess this means I'll get my new truck next year.
07:58Yeah, probably so.
07:59What's one more year?
08:01What's one more year?
08:02You just can't show up for Rush.
08:04You've got to prep months in advance.
08:06You need to register for sorority recruitment.
08:09My Rush Week checklist.
08:11Checklist.
08:12What's it packing your Rush bag?
08:13So the checklist for Rush, it can be pretty extensive and time consuming.
08:16You'll need a list of all your extracurricular activities.
08:19Sorority headshot.
08:20Start preparing your outfits early.
08:22You've got to have a resume.
08:23You come in with a good resume.
08:25If you need a sorority resume, I have one in my bio for only $5.
08:28Start preparing to make your Rush resume.
08:30Make sure it looks clean.
08:31If you're not prepared and you haven't done the work, the good news is,
08:35I'm here to help.
08:37I've been preparing girls for Rush for over 30 years.
08:40Oh, somebody's at the door.
08:42Let me catch the door.
08:46Bill!
08:47Hey, Miss Paula.
08:48Oh, I'm so excited to see you.
08:50If you live in the South, you're going to pledge a sorority.
08:53Failure is not an option for these Rush moms.
08:56Lexi, this is Bill Iverson, the number one Rush coach in America.
09:02My last name is Alverson, not Iverson.
09:06Do you want me to call you Paola?
09:08It's nice to meet you.
09:09Nice to meet you officially.
09:10Nice grip.
09:11Lexi has a tendency to be shy if she doesn't know you.
09:15She's very cautious.
09:17I think that could be a trait of being adopted.
09:20All right, first thing we're going to do, we don't put our hands in front of our privates.
09:24What?
09:25We don't cup the cooter, Miss Paula.
09:30That's right.
09:31The reason that you don't cup the cooter, it puts your hands in a viewing area in the no-no zone.
09:35And do you want people staring at your crotch?
09:37Why do we want to start off talking with you looking like you have a personal itch?
09:42Just sit down and be comfortable at the kitchen.
09:44You want me or just Lexi?
09:46Oh, I think you have to be part of the process.
09:48Okay, let's go.
09:49I want to be.
09:50I know you need to be, Miss Tory Burch-Flats.
09:52I know.
09:53I want to go over your resume.
09:54I want to look at your video.
09:56You got your application.
09:57So you like pink, clearly.
09:59I love pink.
10:00But remember, Phi Mu is pink city.
10:01Nobody else is pink city.
10:02Phi Mu is not as strong.
10:04Hold on.
10:05It's not big.
10:06But you know what?
10:07What if she likes it?
10:08And you've just said something negative about a house.
10:09It is pretty bad.
10:10Well, but also, we're legacies for a couple of sororities.
10:15Yeah, well, hold on to that.
10:16That gets her to Tuesday.
10:20Well, I didn't think we were set, but I was hoping that it would give us an edge.
10:25There's too many legacies out there.
10:27This looks good.
10:28I do want to shape up the hair.
10:30It looks better here than there.
10:31Now, let's talk about things you need to do, okay?
10:34One, I want you to reevaluate all your social media.
10:37We ain't looking for the booty.
10:39Get them gone.
10:40Something I've definitely been doing all year.
10:41Get that?
10:42Anything that could even be.
10:43See, when I went through Rush, we didn't have the internet.
10:49Alexis wants to be a free bird.
10:50Now, she doesn't want her mom making all the choices and decisions on everything she's doing for her.
10:55My advice to Alexis is real simple.
10:57Break free.
10:58Secondly, it was a much smaller campus.
11:01Lexi, you're so beautiful.
11:02You've got to really get in.
11:04Well, that's a marketing kind of thing.
11:06Sharing who you are physically and...
11:09Hold up, hold up, hold up.
11:11I think she's constantly critiqued her whole life.
11:13I don't want mom making all the choices and decisions on everything she's doing.
11:20Paula, you've got homework.
11:22Tell me.
11:23You're going to learn how to become mute for the first time in your life.
11:26It's time to believe what you've done with this child and let it be.
11:31Okay.
11:32Because you're trying to fix it and make sure it's going to be right come hell or high water.
11:35Helicopter mom is a great term and Paula is one.
11:38You see films and a helicopter's landing in a field and what's it doing to all the grass and this stuff?
11:43Blowing it out.
11:44And that's the problem here.
11:46We're going to work on not being critical, but supportive, but guiding.
11:50Mute.
11:51Mute.
11:52That'll be hard.
11:53Class is in session.
11:54Homework is due.
11:57You don't just show up to college on day one and say, hey, I think I'll go through a rush.
12:01This is something you have to plan for.
12:03It's definitely a lot.
12:04It can be a little overwhelming.
12:06You're going to fill out applications.
12:07You're going to make videos.
12:09You're going to request recommendation letters.
12:12You are going to do more trying to get into rush than you did trying to get into that college.
12:19What about registration?
12:20Have you done anything for registration yet?
12:22I'm at the very end of the registration.
12:24I really think we're down to the wire.
12:26Hadley is nervous about going through rush.
12:29And she doesn't know who to talk to because most people rush their freshman year and they
12:33don't rush their sophomore year.
12:35So she doesn't really have anybody her age that would be going through it at the same time.
12:42So she doesn't really know who to ask.
12:44I have just been so overwhelmed with everything that Hadley has had to get done with rush.
12:48Sometimes it just sneaks up on us and I'm like, we've got to do this today.
12:51And she's like, well, what am I supposed to do?
12:53And I'm like, well, I don't know.
12:54I mean, you know.
12:55What about a round one video?
12:57Yeah, but I don't even know how to make the video.
12:59This all is like just feeling really overwhelming to me.
13:01I don't really know if I even want to do this anymore.
13:06Well, you're going to let something that's a little bit tough deter you from something that you've talked about all summer long that you wanted to do.
13:13I talked to dad this morning and we are going to hire you a recruitment or a rush coach.
13:22And it's probably going to be a thousand dollars or more.
13:26A thousand dollars.
13:27I cannot.
13:28Oh, my gosh.
13:29Like, I cannot be more grateful.
13:30I'm at a loss of words.
13:32Well, thank you, Melba.
13:33But a thousand dollars, I mean.
13:35Yeah, that's a lot of money.
13:36I'm so anxious about all this.
13:38I don't care what we got to do to get this sorority stuff done.
13:41And I feel like you wanting to join this sorority is a great decision.
13:45My parents really go out of their way for me.
13:47Like, I've seen them go without since I was a little kid just so that I could have the greatest and the best things.
13:53They want me to achieve all my dreams, like, no matter what it was.
13:57You have made it so much further than dad and I ever have.
14:00Oh, my gosh.
14:01Well, you have.
14:02And if this is something that you want to do, we owe you this much.
14:06I am hoping that with the sorority I can get some really good internships or even get my dream job one day at a really good law firm.
14:14I'm just saying with the money and everything, like, we can do it. We have it.
14:18They better help me get into the exact sorority that I want to get in.
14:22That's not a promise. That's not a given.
14:25What's your social media like? These girls are looking at this six months out.
14:32Social media is bigger and rush. Everybody knows this. It's TikTok crazy land.
14:37Watch what you post. You might be thinking, oh, I don't rush until August, so it's fine.
14:41Wrong. We're looking at your Instagram.
14:44Scrub your profiles. Take down any video where you are using profanity. This is southern sorority culture.
14:51We are good Christian people. We may cuss like sailors behind closed doors, but we will never swear on record.
14:58Lexi, the one thing that Bill started off with was to clean up social media.
15:07No pictures of bathing suits. No pictures of fannies.
15:11So let's look at your social media and let me point out some things that I think you need to kind of move around.
15:18I would move that one around because, you see, he doesn't want you to be a sex kitten in a skimpy bathing suit.
15:25My bathing suits cannot be on my behind.
15:28I would get rid of that one. That's such a happy picture.
15:31No, get rid of it too much food. Is that iced tea?
15:35Mm-hmm.
15:36You're not allowed to be holding a cup or do anything that would maybe imply you're drinking alcohol.
15:44Oh, no. Get rid of that one.
15:46These are from traveling.
15:47That's okay.
15:48You just, you tap.
15:49Huh?
15:50Tap.
15:51Tap.
15:52Tap.
15:53You just, you tap.
15:55Huh?
15:56Tap.
15:57You tap.
15:58Tap.
15:59I just gotta see boobs.
16:00Oh, my God.
16:02The whole body showing.
16:04He doesn't want sex kitten.
16:05I don't know if that's exactly how he phrased it.
16:07Well, it may not be, but that's how I interpret it.
16:10I gotta get rid of that one too. Too much.
16:13I knew Mom was involved, but I didn't know it was possible to be this involved.
16:19Tap.
16:20It's really annoying.
16:21hey hello you must be hadley yeah pleasure to meet you so nice to meet you tell me what we're
16:31doing so i'm just a regular southern girl uh-huh and i feel like i don't know how to sell myself
16:36to the sorority girls i want to make sure i have the best chance of everybody getting to know me
16:42and not thinking i'm just some country bumpkin okay so there's a couple things there we're not
16:47going to be a country bumpkin you're a small town southern girl big damn difference hadley she's a
16:52country bumpkin girl who's oh baby sugar honey and all this kind of stuff talk to her about the color
16:57of the yard whether the grass is dead or alive it doesn't matter you're just going to have fun
17:02she has no idea that that's her golden trait so where are you in your rest preparation it's coming
17:08up it is definitely coming up and i have not registered well that needs to happen asap yes
17:15boom got to get that done resume written no resume yet okay got to get that done
17:20girl where are you on your wardrobe first round video we got to get prepared for that and what
17:27we're going to say and how excited and not use the word country bumpkin you're kind of behind the game
17:32we need to jump on that asap
17:34i had my doubts at first but now it seems to me like we need you to get in the sorority
17:42all right let me go get the chat with
17:43in order to go through rush you need to coordinate your outfits for the week you want to wear something
17:53that they're going to remember outfit doesn't have anything to do with a type of like good
17:58conversation you're going to have with someone the most important thing is always come across
18:03as confident happy ready when you walk through that sorority door i've taken your advice it's time
18:09for you to take bill's advice and me have a little fun while you're mute mute mute give it my best shot i think i might need to try some things on
18:19oh i got that in italy mute i got it you're mute
18:29maybe i'll wear some of your perfume this is good this is improvement no you're mute oh you're not the boss
18:38anymore chanel umbrella can i take it to school
18:42sorry i can't hear you what were you saying oh my gosh thank you
18:48might need to get rid of these now time to go
18:53all the sororities want the rush video it is their first time to see you and see basically your
19:06marketing tool for who you are get ready with me to make my round one rush video i'm low-key nervous
19:12why am i nervous i really shouldn't be you want to click with them on camera and you really want to
19:17make a great impression in the first five seconds as the week goes on they can very likely go back and
19:22look at that video is the girl we met on the video the girl that's coming to our party if they're not
19:28the same that's a big mountain to get over all right let's try a little video run i'm not expecting
19:34this to go well hey y'all i'm hadley drake and i'm so excited to go through rush it's called recruitment
19:41so yeah so now the next thing is go put on a shirt and a top that has a collar or some type of
19:47things around your neck where we're not rushing our boobs
19:49during covid everything was done by submitting a video and even zoom post covid the sorority has
19:56realized let's get all the girls to submit videos and it makes it easier for the sorority to kind of
20:02start their elimination process and learn who the girl is it's okay to bring that little bit of chili
20:08to girl out okay because i do want people to see like my big bubbly personality so let's do it again
20:13and show a little bit of big and bubbly bill's training if she does get a house and this pays
20:19off it will 100 totally be worth every single penny that we have spent look up here so your eyes are a
20:26little bit higher up right there you ready yeah go if she gets a house um i'm sorry
20:32i just want her to be happy and i know that she will be if she gets a house an unpopular opinion of
20:43mine is that i really do love pineapple on pizza i really hope that this video allowed you guys to
20:49see a little bit more about me thank you so much bye bye i'm good that was it we had a gift his name
20:57is bill iverson yeah and he is a rush coach so what did he tell you first thing he told me was to be
21:04mute that's not your natural attitude at all this morning i didn't get up and tell her what to wear
21:10and i didn't tell her about her hair and how to fix it and i said do you love it i do too
21:15so you're headed there to ole miss yeah one more week and then i mean then i rush
21:23i'm a little nervous about it my mom's like going over the top about everything she can to do with
21:31it that's what moms do though she literally brought in a rush coach wow
21:35yeah he really wants me to be like super outgoing and talk to everyone and just be like
21:42oh my gosh and i feel like i'm very like relaxed it just like takes a little bit especially for me
21:50with like strangers he wants you to come out of your shell a little bit yeah be excited and be happy
21:54but like yeah you gotta think of it like a tennis match be a little more assertive some of the girls
21:58are a little bit scary though yeah well that's probably what he's saying he wants you to be a
22:02little bit you know yeah come out of your shell and be yourself what if i don't get in a sorority
22:08what if i say the wrong thing what if i don't get a bit at all well rush is difficult i mean it's a
22:14very hard process especially if you don't have people helping you the bond that you get in a
22:19sorority and a fraternity and the people you meet does help you later on in life i don't think you
22:23need to panic as much as i'm not panicked i'm not but it's stressful i don't mean to cut you off i'm
22:28not panicked i'm just being transparent and letting you know that there's another side
22:34and what i don't want to happen i don't want lexi to marry somebody from mississippi
22:40because you'll be too far it'll be way too far i understand she's got to come back to the family
22:45i want her to live in the bubble with me or the house will be empty this house is all about lexi
22:51i'm real sad how are you going to let go and let lexi be on her own and choose her own way
23:01the amount of money these girls are spending on rush
23:08my outfit she's from nanos.com please
23:13david german david german
23:15this is chanel skirt is burberry david german david german david german
23:20are you going to get into a sorority because of your outfit no
23:23sissy cats don't stand there in your pretty little gucci shorts and tell these girls that outfits don't matter
23:28so this is an outfit of the day for mine and my mom's day off
23:38my top is from southern vibes boutique in gaffney
23:40my shirt is lily oh my gosh just pulled it off my arm
23:43dress is from dillard's and the shoes are margaritaville footballs
23:48perfect so mama were you excited for sorority rush
23:53i hope you can find your dress at this little shopping center
23:58i'm finally getting to go shopping with my coach bill
24:02well i think i'll be able to find at least something
24:04and i could not see myself going shopping without grandma hattie
24:08i call her mama and she's definitely one of my biggest supporters
24:12she helps me with everything we'll probably just stay the night in your apartment
24:17we'll have to walk at least to eat
24:21mama you're gonna drive your car down there
24:24no i'm not
24:24y'all can call an uber she'll be with you
24:26yeah we can
24:27a what
24:27an uber mama you don't know what a uber is
24:30come on okay girl it's like a taxi cab on your phone
24:34what
24:35i guess we're just gonna have to put you in a nursing home
24:37bull
24:38so i am a little nervous to go shopping today
24:42when i first met bill i was very intimidated by him because he does have such a strong presence
24:49and he knows so much more i mean he really is just the king of sorority recruitment
24:54hey bill
24:57hey girl
24:57here's mama and this is mama
24:59nice to see you again bill
25:02good to see you but let me meet this queen hi i'm bill alverson it's nice to meet you
25:05i'm hattie
25:06hey i've already pulled a few things i've been kind of looking i'm picking just things with color
25:10shopping with bill my concern is hadley feeling uncomfortable because she's kind of watching
25:17the money a little bit and maybe she's got on a 50 to 100 dress and someone else has on
25:23a three or four hundred dollar dress honestly i'm not sure where the other girls are going
25:27to be shopping for this kind of stuff i would assume like you know some high-end store last
25:32time i checked you're not gonna have a price tag hanging off your dress okay if you're acting like
25:38you're the po-broke girl falling off the turnip truck you're gonna get treated that way you're gonna look
25:43good you're gonna present yourself well and when they ask you where you got this oh my god this
25:48cutest boutique named gracie's okay all right let's carry that back oh god i think it's gonna weigh me
25:54down keep your shoes on do not come out of here barefooted this ain't a grocery store
25:57oh i love that one that's good i like that one i think bill is doing a great job with hadley at the
26:12dress shop it's organza as far as they know this is like a 400 dress don't run your damn mouth and
26:17say it's not okay you could just see a different blow in her i'm hadley drain and i'm happy to be a
26:23member of your sorority listen lesie i don't want you to get frustrated if things don't go the way
26:34you anticipate are you worried about me getting a bit for rush i'm just worried that you could have
26:40your heart set on a group that doesn't invite you and that would hurt you i don't want you to be hurt at
26:46all right adopted children deep deep down always are aware of rejection my biggest fear is that she
26:57would fall in love with a group of girls and not get invited back okay and she would get crushed
27:08all right ladies after i left i had some falls coming up with a different school two states away
27:18that was intentional wasn't it yes sir and then you sold it to your mom without telling her the real
27:23reason why you did it i have some concerns with alexis because i think she's still trying to find her way
27:29to get what she wants not things but her own life down deep there's a side of her that has a great
27:35streak of independence and i want that to grow during rush i am ready for a fresh star i'm ready
27:42to be an oxford you're being respectful because your mom's sitting next to you but you kind of want
27:47to stand on your own two feet want to be independent you want to be she turned 18 she said around mom you
27:54know i'm 18 and i said well what does that mean and she stopped for a minute and she said well i'm
28:01supposed to be independent what does that mean being independent did you go up to your mother and say
28:05i just need to get the hell away from y'all for a little bit and do my own thing no i know you didn't
28:10own it be bold that's one thing she told me how to do is get what i want then why in the hell are
28:17we being quiet about ourselves stand on that for rush
28:21this is going to be the most competitive year of rush at ole miss ever finally going to rush ole miss
28:31it is a whole lot more competitive than when their mother and grandmother and great-grandmother went
28:37through rush i can assure you of that your life is there for people to review that can be pressure
28:42but it kind of gets you ready for life in a lot of ways too there's 2 500 girls roughly registered
28:48to rush and there's like less than a thousand spots it was the night before rush and all through the
28:56house the pnms are stirring you can believe that pnms are potential new members rush week is a dance
29:06between the sisters and the pnms who want to be sisters wish us luck guys
29:12we've got four rounds open house you watch a video of all the sororities for everybody to decide
29:20who am i going to dance with first philanthropy where you find out what's their civic purpose
29:25sisterhood we're narrowing it down to see do you like us do we like you and then you have prep
29:31what's my first choice where do i see myself one week and you're deciding whether you want to be
29:36with somebody for the rest of your life
29:38today is move-in day here at the university of south carolina it's been a long day we started
29:52early this morning with packing the truck and coming down but we still have a lot of unpacking to do
30:00i started thinking about last night i'm i'm probably going to miss her more than i thought i
30:04would we don't want her to repeat again what she had to go through her freshman year i don't want her
30:10to be locked up in her room the only thing she does is go to campus go to class eat and not do
30:16anything it's been an exhausting process not just for hadley but for me as well so if she doesn't get
30:22the house she wants or doesn't get a house at all i mean it's going to hurt her i'm just hoping that
30:28this year she gets a little bit more social of course i'll be very hurt for her i will try not
30:36to show how hurt i am for her but we've spent a lot of time and a lot of money and you know i've
30:42been as dedicated to the process as she has been because i've been right here with her
30:46but the harsh reality is there's not going to be that many spots i mean so somebody's going to get cut
30:53being up at school is literally so good i moved in today and it was really stressful
31:01by the time we moved her into the dorm and got her sheets on the bed it was 10 hours i was
31:08exhausted i'm feeling good i'm obviously a little bit nervous my biggest worries are that nobody's
31:16going to be there to help her she's got to figure it out i'm literally pacing the bathroom because i'm
31:23so nervous about tomorrow for rush i'm just so scared that i'm not going to fit in with the other
31:30girls i'm just scared to go meet everybody
31:34first round is open house you watch a video of all the sororities in a marketing campaign if you
31:46will it shows you the girls and their colors and their house i'm so so excited this is my recruitment
31:53shirt that the school gave us i'm wearing my necklace that i always wear oh my goodness i cannot
31:58wait every girl the first three days of rush is wearing the same panhellenic t-shirt this is the
32:05back with the sponsors okay and then this is the front so this allows them to get to know the
32:11personality of the girl a little bit better so that if her clothes aren't exactly right they're
32:16getting to know her this is a huge city and it's all the way up this road you know i'm nervous and
32:21just me being like the long ranger
32:23basically what you're doing you have the videos you submitted super excited to attend almost in the
32:31fall as a journalism major they see all the videos and they rank their girls then you see their
32:36commercials and you rank them we're going to hocus pocus and see what they match up their goal is to
32:43pick eight out of eleven sororities that they will be meeting with during the week
32:47oh lexi okay how was it stressful we have leased a house for me to stay in during rush i feel like
32:57i'm going around in circles saying i'm stressed i'm stressed i'm stressed like we had to choose
33:02eight houses today that we want to pursue just based on watching a two-minute video that's all
33:08so i didn't really know how to like form an opinion who would they would call us at 7 a.m
33:14if we do not get invited back there are no guarantees at this point a house could drop them
33:19at any time the second round of sorority recruitment is philanthropy it's the first
33:25time these girls step foot into these sorority houses if there is a question to be asked
33:30probably drake is going to ask it and i'm going to want to know every single detail about it the
33:35people taking you around rate you
33:38this is my ootv cake for dinner um just like ruffly skirt toribert shoes and that's it so i'm super
33:47excited to go see all the house foods i'll be finding out pretty soon which houses didn't want to see me
33:53back again so i'm definitely nervous for that i get my schedule in three minutes well i was looking
34:01at my emails on that okay i just need to tap it now
34:03i need to finish so i look good feel good
34:10nope can't finish have to tap it okay so i got five out of the eight invited me back which is good
34:18so i'm super happy also all the ones like my top like five
34:24the one that my like mom and grandma were in i did not get i like i'm not sure how to like process
34:37this information my mom might not be like the happiest about this
34:46well congratulations i can't read it but what what was it
34:52my top three invited me back so i'm super excited
34:55did you get a kappa or a kao
34:58okay
35:05she didn't get into the one that i was in so i was devastated by that
35:13we're staying at a hotel nearby about a block and a half away oh my stomach's in knots i just can't
35:20wait till she gets back and i can find out what's going on so i just got to go and meet like all the
35:25houses today every house that i wanted asked me back so i was really excited about that
35:31sisterhood is where our p m's get to sit down with the sisters and get to know them on a little deeper
35:40level no more panhellenic tees we get the dresses outfits are important because you want to fit in
35:47and then if it reflects some of your personality or it's a good color for you great but you don't want to
35:52look like fish only i'll be spending 40 minutes at different houses and they're all back to back
35:58i just want to go and find the best connection like a real group of sisters sisterhood is the
36:03big first deep cut day coming down to six sororities eight sororities everyone starts to feel
36:08sometimes for the first time in their life the taste of rejection i'm on my second day of
36:14sisterhood i have dg and aopi you tend to be very guarded with your emotions you just let them know
36:23i'm so excited to be here and you can say i was adopted and and but my mom has been my mom i'm excited
36:30to find my new family got it today i went to alpha delta pi and i had such a great experience you're
36:39meeting all the girls in the sorority but really your close buddies are going to be in your pledge class
36:43look around the room going do i want to hang out with these people oh my god i love this sorority
36:49but i don't like these girls that are here sisterhood the girls really have to make sure
36:54they vibe with each other they're going to be together for the next few years but making
36:57connections that build you for your life this is a critical decision
37:03preference it's the big one it's the one i'm going to two or three depending upon the school
37:11and where do i want to end up what's my first choice where do i stay myself save your best
37:17dress for prep day it's prep day i could cry my dress is from lulu's this is the same color as my
37:24palm dress my dress is from lucy in the sky by the time these girls get around a prep day most of
37:31them have their hearts set on a specific house wish me luck today could be an emotional day last night
37:38i think i got into bed at like one o'clock to say that i'm not a little nervous would be an understatement
37:45because i just took a big breath with that in
37:51so i just got my schedule back for prep and i couldn't be more happier with my top two hits
38:01because they were huge sororities and like i literally mean huge and i really am just so excited
38:07i haven't even told my parents this but every time i walk onto campus i see somebody i know
38:17i have somebody to go talk to and it's just because i went through recruitment i couldn't trade
38:23this for the world i went to tridel and aopi and i really love both of them i put aopi as number one
38:31and then tridel is number two the anticipation is getting to me i literally have been trying to
38:36go to sleep for so long i'm so up to you guys tomorrow i haven't felt like a cb or in other words
38:44country vulcan since i've been down here and i've actually had people tell me like oh my gosh you
38:50sound like such a southern belle the days of cb are way way way over
38:55it's finally bid day the girls have made their choices happy bid day
39:01happy bid day everybody but today is the day behind every girl going through rush
39:07my otd for bid day my skirt is from gilly hicks my shoes are my own clouds i'm so excited
39:15there's a mommy right behind her that wants it as bad as she does we're going to get the bid
39:20and we're going to celebrate like you won't believe
39:23the sisterhood that establishes today will follow lexi for the rest of her life and so it's a big deal
39:39today i just dropped heavily off for bid day i'm just ecstatic to see where she's going to land and
39:45what house is going to be her home this day is the last day of rush week when you learn which house
39:53you are running home to all of the girls going through rush go to the stadium and they are handed
39:59envelopes and it will tell them which sorority they got a bid to
40:03five four three two one
40:08i'm getting emotional because that was our favorite of the two
40:25it's become a tradition for the girls just to run back to their sorority house
40:31from the stadium and they call that running home
40:34moms don't have to be there during rush but big day mama and daddy need to show up
40:43this is a big event this girl has gone through and probably the first time she's gone through that
40:48type of level of selection process on both sides so you kind of want to see your parents
40:53now we all have to do is find out where it's gonna be
40:57we're gonna have a good time
40:59alexi got a o'clock
41:00she handled herself so well
41:04and alexis is now being independent
41:08she didn't get into the one that i was in
41:10i was somewhat hurt by that
41:13alexi flipped it off
41:15she said i'm gonna get in the one i'm supposed to be in
41:19that was fulfilling for me but now i wanted to fly
41:23arguably hadley got into the best sorority of south carolina
41:30i'm proud of hadley she came into her own and she showed everybody
41:36i am no dumb country bump
41:38being able to experience this with her is something that i'll never take granted
41:43she's getting to the age now that there's gonna be a time where she doesn't come back home
41:48so take every moment that you can
41:52and experience everything you can with your children
41:55because they're grown and gone
41:57she'll always have a home to come home to
42:00but cherish every moment
