USC Trojans Coach Lincoln Riley, Defensive Tackle Devan Thompkins, and Quarterback Jayden Maiava discusses how Kamari Ramsey's leadership has helped the team
Transcript
00:00Coach, two targeting calls against Michigan State
00:04in that first half.
00:05Just in a broad sense, are you happy with the attention
00:07that possible targeting penalties are getting?
00:12It's such a tough call.
00:13I mean, I think we all wanted the egregious ones out
00:15of the game for player safety.
00:17I think we all get that.
00:18There's obviously some unique scenarios,
00:21even like the ball that Lake caught,
00:23you know, that their really good linebacker got ejected on.
00:25I mean, they're tough plays.
00:27And so just try to educate our team
00:29as much as we can on it.
00:30Obviously, number one, for their safety.
00:32And number two, so that we can avoid those types of penalties.
00:35Because it's honestly, it's the most extreme penalty
00:39in our game.
00:40I mean, a 15-yarder missing a half of football.
00:43I mean, it's a big deal.
00:44So our guys have done a good job avoiding them.
00:47But they're obviously huge, huge calls.
00:48Do you want Mark?
00:49Lincoln, with the way, obviously, Big Tim Media Day
00:52talked about how you wanted Kamari to be more vocal as a leader.
00:56How has his role in doing that kind of helped the linebackers up to speed?
01:00Yeah, he's involved in a lot of communication in our defense.
01:04I think he's done a really good job with it.
01:05And he's had to play, you know, some different positions this year.
01:08Because that's what's been best for the team and best for our defense.
01:10So his unselfishness has definitely showed up.
01:13And so, no, he's definitely a steadying force for us.
01:16And we're going to need to continue to have him be a great leader for us.
01:19And then lastly, I want to say, you know, I know late kick and all that, but the Trojan,
01:24our fan base, Trojan Nation, like, they showed up tonight.
01:27I mean, that's what – that was a really, really electric atmosphere in there.
01:32I appreciate everybody that came out.
01:35I mean, that's what the damn Coliseum's got to be like, man.
01:38And it's got to be even freaking better when we get back here in a couple weeks.
01:41We'll see you then.
01:42Bye, Dom.
01:42Thank you, John.
