"Il punto di partenza per il film fu mia madre. Era un'intellettuale, e la sua sensazione di se' stessa si basata sull'espressione linguistica. Quando e' diventata non-verbale, dopo un paio di anni di sofferenza dalla demenza, la mia famiglia ha iniziato a parlare di lei come se non fosse piu' li'. Quello spazio tra la persona di cui parlavamo, che non e' piu' li', e la persona davanti a me, che e' molto viva, mi ha spaventato per molti, molti anni", ha detto la regista del film "Familiar Tounch", nelle sale da oggi 25 settembre. "C'e' una sorta di terrore dell'eta' in nostra societa'. Diventare vecchi sembra sorprendere le persone e terrorizza, ma dal punto di vista dell'esistenza umana, e' solo la vota", ha aggiunto Kathleen Chalfant, attrice protagonista nel film.

00:19So the starting point for the film was my grandmother. She was a poetry editor and intellectual and someone whose sense of self was rooted in her linguistic expression. And when she became nonverbal after a few years of suffering from dementia, my family started speaking about her almost as if she were no longer there. And yet she was so physically expressive and so alive in other ways.
00:44And that space between the person we spoke about as no longer there and the person in front of me who was very much alive, that haunted me for many, many years.
00:53As an old person, there's a kind of terror of age in our society that people get old comes as a surprise to them and is terrifying to people who aren't old.
01:07Whereas from the point of view of the human being, it's just life. You continue. But we've lost the idea that this is, that this is. And we have some notion that it's somehow avoidable and that if we don't avoid it, we've fallen short.
