00:00Hundreds of new homes on the edge of Yeovil could be delayed or even cancelled as a legal
00:08challenge threatens to derail one of the town's largest developments in years. The up Mudford
00:14site just off of North Primrose Lane was given outlined planning permission by Somerset
00:19Council in October of last year. Plans include 765 homes, a new community hub, commercial
00:27space and an extension to Primrose Lane Primary School. But now Mudford Parish Council has
00:35launched a judicial review arguing that the legal agreement for the site is flawed and
00:40rushed, known as a Section 106 agreement. It outlines how developers contributed to infrastructure
00:48like roads, schools and health services. Parish leaders say it's loosely worded, lacks safeguarding
00:55and doesn't go far enough to meet planning policy. Campaigner Group's Friends of Mumford Action
01:02Group, FOMAG, says that the homes would increase flood risk, overwhelm local services and offer
01:09too few affordable homes. They held a public meeting on the 11th of September to update
01:15residents and have started fundraising to support the legal challenges. The council has already
01:23spent £12,000 preparing for the case. If the review goes ahead, the cost of a one-day hearing could
01:31reach £45,000, with even more if the developer appeals. The dispute also affects a second development,
01:41of nearby 252 homes.
