Researchers are investigating how fast-growing algae can be utilised for feed and fertiliser.
Transcript
00:00We have a massive pool of underground saline water that causes a massive issue in the Wheatbelt region by increasing the salinity of the soil, meaning that a big portion of this, the land can no longer be used for farming.
00:23What we're trying to do, we're trying to use that saline water as a resource to produce high value products for the farmers on the farm.
00:31One of the earliest things that we're going to use these algal products is as a fertilizer.
00:36And the fertilizer can significantly help the soil microbiome and the quality of the soil, especially in our region, which our soil is not very fertile.
00:45We do have this opportunity because when it comes to the climate, we are potentially one of the best places in the world for mass producing algae.
00:53So why not using this opportunity?
