00:32Edge Early Learning says the closure follows a supervision matter, where two children were
00:38left alone for approximately two minutes after the student teacher supervising them left the room.
00:44It says while no child was harmed, the incident was not reported internally, resulting in
00:50a failure to notify the Education Standards Board.
00:53The regulator gave a number of cautions. They weren't addressed and I support the action
00:59that the regulator has taken here to suspend the service for 14 days.
01:03One thing is to have the audit done, but the other is to make sure measures are put into place
01:07to make sure these centres are up to standard and that children are kept safe.
01:11Increased compliance visits have resulted in multiple South Australian childcare centres
01:16being investigated since a crackdown on the sector last year.
01:20In August, an enforceable undertaking was placed across all of Edge Early Learning's 24 centres
01:26across the state, requiring it to lift its standards within a year.
01:31The company's chief executive says in recent months it has taken steps to strengthen practices,
01:37including placing senior leaders on site.
01:40It says there has been no reduction in staff numbers and has continued to meet or exceed required
01:46educator-to-child ratios at all times.
01:50The Plimpton Centre must now demonstrate it's addressed the supervision issues before a decision
01:55is made as to whether it can reopen.
