00:00So Newcastle United are into Round 4 of the Carabao Cup after a 4-1 win here at St James' Park over Bradford City.
00:08Now, it came in this game, obviously Newcastle heavy favourites against a League One team,
00:13but there is always a potential banana skin, you know, Bradford have started the season really well.
00:19Newcastle United of course have had a slow start and really struggling for goals,
00:24of course they had a nil-nil draw against Bournemouth at the weekend
00:27and you did think how that would play into it, especially if Bradford got an early goal,
00:31how that would sort of work, but to be fair, Newcastle did really well from the off.
00:35I think Bradford had a couple of early shots, but after 5-10 minutes, Newcastle United did really well.
00:41Goals from Joel Linton and Willis Sula, both of them got two goals each,
00:45just took the game away from their opponents and despite a wonder goal in the second half,
00:50Newcastle progressed through nice and easy, along with three other Premier League teams tonight,
00:55all three of them, all four of them booked their place in the next round.
00:59The Newcastle reward for beating Bradford is a home tie again,
01:03this time against Premier League opposition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur.
01:06Now, Bradford, to give them flawless, I thought they did well.
01:10Newcastle dominated for large periods, but Bradford stayed in it
01:13and, as I mentioned before, that Andy Cook strike capitalised on a mistake,
01:18rifled it in, that was 3-0 to make it 3-1 at that point.
01:21You think, oh, Bradford got a little bit left in them over the last ten minutes,
01:24but a late Willis Sula strike really took it away from them.
01:27And, yeah, Newcastle were just really professional in what they did.
01:29Eddie Howe made seven changes from the team that started on the south coast on Sunday,
01:34only Sven Bottmann, Malik Chau, Lewis Hall and Lewis Miley kept their place in that team.
01:39It was really good in particular to see Bottmann and Chau in the middle of that back four.
01:43They obviously played as a back five on Sunday alongside Dan Byrne,
01:46but to see them as part of a back four, you know, hopefully is that a sign of Newcastle's future centre-back pair,
01:53and who knows, but they were very good in the heart of defence.
01:57Joe Linton, I thought, was really good in midfield.
01:59He had sort of an interesting game.
02:01I think a couple of times, you know, he wasn't particularly brilliant,
02:05but he scored two goals and almost two very similar goals the first one.
02:08Anthony Gordon's shot, just felt him on the floor,
02:10and he just curled it past the goalkeeper.
02:12And the second goal in the second half, again, Bruno fed him in the box.
02:15He placed it out of his feet and curled it,
02:17and this time with his left foot in the opposite corner.
02:19So they were two good goals from him.
02:21Willis Sula, you know, it was made for him.
02:23He started against Wimbledon, if you remember, this time last year,
02:26and you thought this type of game was made for him, and he did well.
02:29You know, his first goal was a lovely pass from Bruno,
02:31and one-on-one with the Keeba fired past him.
02:33That was two goals in two minutes, and I've always said in these videos,
02:36Newcastle under Eddie Howe at their best when they really press their advantage home,
02:42and they did that with them two goals.
02:44They went from 0-0 to 2-0 within five minutes,
02:46and it was pretty much game over at that point.
02:48Willis Sula then added a second late on getting on the end of a Harvey Barnes cross,
02:53and tapping home, and yeah, it was a very solid performance.
02:56Eddie Howe would be pleased, and I said, you know,
02:58it was just about the win today, all cup games are just about winning,
03:01but to be the reigning champions, the defending holders,
03:04and to think to get knocked out by League One opposition would be a dampener.
03:08So they've got through that, they've got through that test,
03:09and yes, Tottenham will be a big test in the next round,
03:11but they'll fancy their chances to beat anyone, especially here.
03:14So hopefully they can do that, and they can now take a bit of confidence into playing Arsenal.
03:19On Sunday, now, Arsenal defeated Port Vale today,
03:21and we all know games between Newcastle and Arsenal,
03:23especially in recent seasons, are bad, but it's Spice.
03:26And, you know, they're going to go into that game with one Premier League win behind them.
03:30If they can get another against Arsenal, that would be massive,
03:33especially with Union Saint-Gilois and then Nottingham Forest to play
03:36before the next international break.
03:37So getting the win today was good, but getting them four goals
03:39would be extra important for Eddie Howe and his team.
03:42And, you know, to score four goals against any team is always good.
03:45And I think Willis Sula, who's now with three goals this season,
03:48and Joel isn't getting a score sheet as well,
03:49it's nice that he can share the goals out, because they're going to need that.
03:52You know, Nick Valdemar came on towards the end,
03:54had some really nice touches, I thought.
03:56Didn't threaten the goal at any point, but I thought he was decent.
03:59So, yeah, all eyes now on Sunday.
