Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's goalless draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Eddie Howe's side began their Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Unai Emery's side.

00:00so game one of the 2025-2026 premier league season is done and dusted and as you can see behind me

00:06newcast united we're at aston villa and a goal is draw for eddie howe's side which on the face of

00:11it is not the worst point they've had some humbling defeats here in recent times you go back to just

00:16april even when they got beat 4-1 here so i think everyone coming to the game today of a newcastle

00:21persuasion would have took a point i think um eddie howe he will never say he wanted a point but i

00:26think he'll recognize that's a good result they lost every single away game against uh the other

00:31five teams they finished around them last season um so to get a point from their first one against

00:37one of the top six away from home is is a good result um the context of the game maybe not you

00:43know they did play what was it 30 minutes or 25 minutes of normal time six minutes about time

00:48against 10 men um a few murmurings from the villa crowd they weren't too happy with craig paulson's

00:53decision but i think that was a absolute stonewaller uh red card you know anthony golden is

00:58throwing goal esri concept made no attempt to play the ball and brought him down um you guys couldn't

01:03really convert i think to be honest i think what's the saying you know they could have played till next

01:07week and not scored here and yeah the um the elephant in the room or the elephant that wasn't

01:12in the room alexander is that really made a difference today um anthony langer had a good chance early

01:17doors he really should have scored that uh marco bizzo on his aston villa debut had a really good game to be

01:22fair to him he was excellent he stopped everything and he got a nice threw at him um but they didn't

01:27really press too much for it you could tell they were a team without a striker they have very good

01:31attacking players don't get me wrong you know harvard barnes anthony langer uh anthony gordon and then

01:36when jacob murphy when he came on there four really good really threatening attacking players lots of pace

01:41lots of um you know skill but they just don't have that striker instinct and they don't have that

01:48that strike if ollie watkins for example or morgan rogers have played for new gas today i think they

01:52probably would have won that game quite comfortably they um but you know that's it is what it is i

01:57think they they did well they dominated a lot of the play they they shut villa down really well they've

02:03had times against aston villa they have really struggled to to stop villa counter-attacking stop

02:08that them winning that midfield battle but today they were really good so overall i think you've got

02:13to say that it was a very solid performance shame they didn't get the win um but you as i said happy with

02:21the point um and they'll go into that game against liverpool with a point on the board and you know

02:26that's it's a solid start you don't want to start the season of the defeat so it's a solid stop but

02:29of course we have to talk about alexander is that it couldn't be a video without talking about him

02:33um i think it was nice for 90 minutes or so for the everything to stop about isaac and everyone

02:39everyone's feelings that you know all the talk about to cease while the match was on and you know as much

02:45as we all mentioned it and you sat at home watching it if you were to villa park today you would have

02:49known that yes in your head you were thinking of isaac was playing they probably would have scored but

02:54once a full-time whistle went then you guys united fans they clapped the team off as they do

02:59then they chanted at isaac i'm not going to repeat the chance here but it was very clear from the

03:02the section the 100 or so fans had made um those chants in the way and at full time it was clear their

03:09thoughts on isaac eddie howe was asked after the game he praised the the um the crowd for their

03:15their backing of the team throughout the game and then said they're entitled to chant whatever

03:18they want after the game um i spoke to anthony gordon after the match and didn't reference those

03:23chants but he did say he was complimentary about the fans and said you know he loved hearing the

03:28fans sing and clap at the end of the game and he was one who did the player interview at the end

03:33and as that interview was going on those chants were very audible in the background so it was very

03:36clear that new guys tonight's fans have made their feelings known at isaac i think there's

03:41i've also thought there's a route back in to the club for him eddie howlett's left the door open i

03:45still think there probably is but he's now got to do a lot to show and to prove to those fans here and

03:51the thousands that'll be saying james is next week that you know he's got to prove himself again he's

03:57he's burnt a lot of those bridges not none of the bridges are unbuildable you know that he can

04:02he can come back but he's gonna have to do a lot of work he's got to if he still stay at this club

04:06he's gonna have to really buckle down work hard score goals and earn the trust of the fan base

04:11his coaches players and his teammates again so yeah it's it was it was it was it was weird because

04:18it was those type of chants haven't been seeing any gas away and for quite a long time you know

04:22or and you got to ground you know it's been quite harmonious i think you know there was chanting

04:26against the previous owners and previous players and managers when they've sort of

04:31not really you know performed and and done what the club wanted but ever since eddie howe's came

04:35in ever since the take of the club it's always been a united front and as i said it was united for you

04:40know 90 minutes of the game but at the end it was a clear message and i think that was the right thing

04:44to do so i would do want to credit you guys a fan because it was brilliant in the game they still

04:47managed to get their message across and there was a couple of chants about the premier league as well

04:51and psr that would got the whole stadium i think you can tell when a whole stadium joins in one chant

04:56um that whoever's on the receiving end of that chant has probably done something wrong but yes

05:00going back to new gas and out of fans who were absolutely brilliant um they backed the team all

05:04the way and i think they would have recognized that that was probably a good point frustrating they didn't

05:08get the win um but yeah and i think you know that's that's the word i think it's frustrating that

05:13they didn't get it that the win was there for them and we all know why they didn't win it and maybe one

05:16man could have changed that alan she rest tweeted after the game that you know it's um it's a good

05:21sign that you got from a company from a place like this disappointed without getting all three but they

05:25didn't get all three points so yeah it's um yeah just good to be talking about football good to be

05:30having back and a good solid performance that will um they'll please might not it might not leave too

05:35much of an impression that this game will be largely forgotten about i'm sure and in the coming days

05:39and weeks but it's nice to see that the football is back they've got a point on the board and all

05:44focus ahead of of liverpool next week and of course before that about nine days from how i'm talking

05:49now lots of transfer news i'm sure that hopefully jacob ramsey will join the club by then you want

05:54with that progress on that deal and then maybe we'll have some sort of uh isak update but who knows what

05:59what these next nine days will bring and of course the best way you can stay up to date with all the

06:02latest news from newcaste united whether that's transfer related match related or anything is of course with
