Joe Buck brings you the latest news from Eddie Howe's pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle United's clash with Bradford City in the Carabao Cup. The holders of the competition get their campaign underway against the League One leaders on Wednesday night.
00:00So back here at the Newcastle United Media Centre after Eddie Howe's press conference ahead of the game against Bradford City on Wednesday night of course Newcastle United go into that game as holders of the Carabao Cup and you know for someone like me and I'm assuming everyone watching this video doesn't get tired saying that too often so I'll say it again Newcastle United go into that game as holders of the Carabao Cup and of course it's going to be a very a very difficult game Bradford League One team they may be but they've already beaten two championship teams to get to this stage of the competition and they
00:29currently sit top of League One after getting promotion from last year so as Eddie Howe says they're a team that are winning lots of games currently they've got a good bit of momentum and that's difficult no matter who they play so Eddie Howe knows that he needs his team to be on their game to beat Bradford of course we've had a couple of Cup upsets during Eddie Howe's time at Newcastle United manager but he really wants his team to be up for it he has admitted that he's probably going to have to rotate obviously he made seven changes for Sunday's game we would expect a couple more changes again for Wednesday night
00:59he mentioned that the players that played maybe three games last week may not play on Wednesday which would include Nick Pope, Tino Liveramento, Dan Byrne and Sandro Tonali so it wouldn't be surprised to see them drop out the starting XI someone like Bruno could come back in asked Eddie about Bruno's fitness he said that it was really important that he got that rest on Sunday after two really big shifts against Wolves and Barcelona so maybe Bruno comes back in and he sort of mentioned that Bruno will have to be someone that they have to manage throughout the season
01:29he made 68 Premier League starts in a row so it's important that they manage his minutes not just in the Carabao Cup but of course with Champions League and Premier League games to balance and yeah I mean it was pretty uneventful obviously press conferences are coming thick and fast right now so it's hard to find out what different things for Eddie Howe to say he confirmed that Johan Wisser didn't need an operation which is good and that his return date for after the international break still stands and he sort of said that Nick Valtomada he will need his minutes managed as well coming from Germany not played a lot of Premier League football so he'll be someone
01:59that they have to they can't he basically he can't play two 90 minutes consecutively so they'll have to manage his minutes and not having Wisser has been a shame because they've not been able to develop
02:10Valtomada's fitness off the pitch because he's been thrown into games you know having to start games having to play 60 minutes and come off they're not being able to work on things with Valtomada because they need him in the starting XI so I'd guess he probably won't play again on Wednesday he'll probably be safe for the Arsenal game Willa Sula who of course made a first Premier League start
02:27last month against Leeds made his first start for Newcastle United in this competition last year against AFC Wimbledon I wouldn't be surprised to see him play on Wednesday night and the rest of the team yeah I think it's it's you know we've got us but Jamal LaSelza I imagine he might play you have someone like Trippier could come back here and Trippier come back and I've already mentioned Bruno Joe Linton didn't play the weekend maybe he gets another chance to play Anthony Gordon of course is back
02:48in the domestic match so he might get a chance to start so I think Eddie Howe's got a lot of decisions to make and I think he was also mentioned the fact that he's actually got some decisions to make other than
02:58you know you've cast your mind back two years ago where he didn't have these decisions because he didn't have the players he didn't have the squad he's now got some decisions to make so it'll be interesting to see what he does
03:06but yeah as I said Newcastle United you know they'll really hope to avoid a giant killing they're at home that's a big boost and Bradford City are going to be tough opponents but hopefully they can get that win
03:15the draw for the next round of the Carabao Cup if Newcastle obviously go through will be after that match it'll be on Wednesday night so we'll of course have all the latest on that from the Shields Gazette if Newcastle United get through and of course remember the Carabao Cup rules mean that it will go straight to extra time sorry it'll go straight to penalties there'll be no extra time if it's a draw after 90 minutes so it may be an elongated night but it won't be too long with extra time in there but of course the best way you can be able to do with everything that happens on Wednesday night at St James Park is with the Shields Gazette
