01:59go out and do some torture. Here's little Nicky. Season 21. Don't miss it.
02:09If you didn't have Mark Orman, you'd have to invent him. How did I get here? And the skies
02:22are not cloudy. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
02:28If you didn't have Mark Orman, you'd have to invent him. How did I get here? And the skies
02:36are not cloudy all day.
02:45I have no idea why my dad is crazy. It's not easy being the number one manor. Mark hates
02:54everybody. He always has.
02:58We're near the home.
03:00We're near the home.
03:03They're coming to get you, Barbara.
03:24okay ghouls just to catch everyone up on the car we're working on in this episode this little 70
03:37barracuda started life as a 318 three-speed manual transmission manual convertible top was one of two
03:46cars that i took in on trade towards the restoration of the green 1970 446 barrel four-speed
03:53kuda that we delivered i think last season the other car in that group was the blue grand coupe
03:58convertible white top we had raffled that off up at the little creek casino now this is one of the
04:04three amigos before i go any further the three amigos are the three airline pilots that all
04:08commission cars to be built at the same time well because of the way things stack around here we're
04:13not necessarily doing them all at the same time this one is getting done a little earlier than the
04:18other ones that's okay that's all right we're gonna get those done too and we'll have a big reveal
04:23with all three cars and all three pilots when that time comes but this little barracuda as i say
04:28started life as a 318 when we got it it had a 340 and a four speed in it but jeff g-e-o-f-f i believe
04:35asked to have a 392 crate hemi installed originally he was planning on a six-speed tramek transmission i
04:43talked him into a five-speed the reason for that is i don't like how much floor you have to cut up
04:50to put a six-speed in one of these cars i've driven these cars and with a 392 and a five-speed
04:57it'll be more than enough a 392 and a six-speed you never even get into sixth gear so i know this
05:02was a great way to save a little bit of money but keep the car more solid and intact
05:06when the car first showed up we were able to take it out for a road test alissa and i drove the red car
05:13i think she was driving i was in the passenger seat and i think will drove the blue grand coupe car ran it
05:19drove we had a lot of fun with it it gave us an opportunity to see a car before because now at
05:23the end of this episode you're going to see a car after we disassembled it we stripped it we dipped it
05:28we had it completely apart there was quite a bit of hidden damage underneath it not super extraordinary
05:34but more than i was counting on so we replaced floor trunk floor we repaired some of the things that
05:40were installed previously that weren't done right we were able to save them and just clean them up like
05:46we did on so many cars over the years now once the car made it through the metal shop made it into
05:50the mud got all the mud work done will did a fantastic paint job on it and i believe it is a
05:55single stage fe5 rally red is the correct paint color for it royal and dougie installed the drivetrain
06:02in this one i think this is the one where they had the wrong rear end originally because i wasn't
06:06involved see that's what happens so he ended up trying to put a b body which is about two inches
06:12narrowed in an e-body rear end in it that didn't work then he didn't listen to me when i said you
06:16have to use the front holes on the magnum force transformer suspension because it'll be too far
06:23back and nothing will fit shifter hole won't fit the shifter crossmember won't go in stuff like that
06:27so they had to redo all that in the end they got it they finished the drivetrain once that drivetrain was
06:34done we got the wheels and the tires on it which are a replica of the 15 by 7 rally wheel painted
06:40monochromatic color of the car and it gets the dog dish hub caps on it with the f60 15 tires in this
06:49particular case because it is a simulated hemi car we're doing a tribute to a hemi and all hemi cars
06:54were an f60 and 1970 e-bodies since the drivetrain has been installed in it brian has been working hard
07:01with dylan in cleaning up parts restoring them like i say the car was pretty good so a lot of things we were
07:07able to reuse like the very unique quarter window regulators and pieces are unique to a convertible
07:13got those restored rebushed so now where we're at on the car is the installation of the vintage air
07:21system a lot of customers these days are asking to add air conditioning to their cars air conditioning
07:27was certainly available on a lot of the cuda models and the challenger models and all the roadrunner corner
07:31superbeats but not with certain things you couldn't get a hemi in air conditioning couldn't get multiple
07:35carburetors and air conditioning couldn't even get a 440 and a four speed and air conditioning in the
07:39cars but today because of people like vintage you can go out and can buy a complete kit that is
07:45retro designed and and designed to retrofit into your car we've used other ones before this is the
07:50first one like this so all we have left now is installing the ac components which is your
07:55evaporator core and the pieces that go underneath the dash if you look underneath the hood you'll see
07:59that all the components that it takes to make this system work are already on we got the compressor on
08:04we got the receiver dryer we've got all the lines and all the peripheral pieces for that now we have
08:08to install the heater box underneath there which is a very nice small compact unit compared to an
08:13original one if you look at an original one for one of these cars and you compare it to one of these
08:18they're about half the size of it which is good because it's probably half the weight as well
08:24so the radiator that we install in these dream cars is from be cool this is a four core aluminum
08:30radiator that fits in all the factory holes perfectly and the fans are built right into the system very
08:35slick after that we have to put the dash assembly in it the steering column still needs the seats in
08:41it there's some turbine ornamentation on the outside still have to put the shaker bubble on it so there's
08:45a little bit left once we get to a point where we have the ac system in we're going to do the initial
08:52fire up i'm going to be involved in that and then we are going to teach all you people out there on tv land
08:58how we charge the system after that just a little bit of assembly and we'll go out on the road test
09:04now that i have the ac system installed and i've got the cooling system installed
09:07i can move forward with the assembly and installation of the dash
09:14all right so we've already got the computer board it's a what do you call a computer chip which is going
09:20to run all of our air conditioning system so we're just going to put the control panel on over the top of
09:24that and it's a couple of different screws and a couple different spacers get this one in and
09:32then i'll show you what the other one looks like a little bit i'm not going to go all the way tight yet
09:36but it takes a little spacer on the back side i'll show you that
09:41and that gives us the space we need to put this panel in the same position as the factory panel would
09:48have been now like mark was saying this system has an oem type of appearance hey it's not exact it
09:54doesn't have all the chrome knobs and it's not identical but if you look at a factory switch panel
09:59you will definitely see some of the similarities you'll find the same thing for the registers and
10:04the shield that goes down below overall it is not an exact duplicate but it is a great alternative
10:10i'll just kind of set it there so you can see i'm going to wait till i'm done adjusting but that's
10:19going to look pretty slick when it's done you're gonna have air conditioning you gotta have some
10:22vents to get the air to you and this one's just going to pop right in here like this
10:40okay so there we go we have four ac vents now in the near future we'll hook them up to our our new ac
10:48system once we get this dash installed now i've got this dash assembly almost built out the final
10:57thing i need to do is install the pad i really like to put these on last because it gives me a lot more
11:02room underneath the dash to wire it and make all the connections test everything out and not worry about
11:07damaging the pad so mark's on his way and i've got this dash right here on the stand all assembled
11:15all the hard work's been done so we're ready to put it in the car coming up mark gets hard at work
11:22helping brian install the newly restored dash always can count on you for the heavy lifting but can mark
11:28and brian hit the 392 hemi and the new ac system up and running what we want to do is make sure that there's
11:36no leak in the system before elisa arrives for the barracuda's first road test i thought you had to
11:42drive a stick mom actually did find out when graveyard cars returns
11:55one thing i love about these mopar dash is maybe they're all that way where they have so much in
12:00them that you can build them on a stand like that oh i always love that yeah there's nothing tricky
12:05about it it's really a matter of lining everything up and making sure you don't damage the car when
12:09you're carrying that thing in there and then you just want to make sure that you get your dash lined
12:14up perfectly on its anchor points so that you can rotate it into place make a couple of adjustments
12:20okay i want to end up good here on this one i want to get this one in first yep don't blame you
12:25because it was a little trickster when we pre-fit this thing there's four bolts that go into the
12:29top of the dash to hold it in place so really all you're doing is trying to make sure everything lines
12:34up the hard work's been done once these six bolts go in to hold this dash in place i'll just get
12:40underneath there make my final connections my final wiring get the air conditioner all hooked up
12:45and we're ready to go talking about on these e-body dashes just how nice it is and b-bodies are very
12:50similar but he can build that whole crazy thing out on on the stand there and you guys saw shots
12:55of it it's ready to go in the car so now it's just a matter of making some connections the hardest
13:00thing is getting some of these that are a little bit trickier to get to in place that's why god made
13:05a knee okay somebody said you were using rogaine is that not true i've never used rogaine it's never
13:11been i want you to know i use it every day yeah i was really thinning back here if you go back to the
13:15early stuff from like three or four years ago it's not like it's a great big boost right now but
13:20it was bad news before i remember because we were almost twins i enjoy working with brian he's
13:26really become a phenomenal technician he knows what he's doing he's done a great job getting the dash
13:31ready and hopefully tomorrow morning once we have all this done we'll be able to get this car running
13:35all right he's going to finish putting that in and make all the connections he needs to make once he
13:40makes those we'll put the steering column in it sounds good good thanks for your help buddy i'll be right
13:45outside the room here always can count on you for the heavy lifting i'm here for you any way i can
13:51give my shirt mugsley mugsley i've been working on that laugh that's good stuff that's mugsley man
14:01these are real cartoons not that weird stuff kids are watching today which just puts a key in their
14:05back and winds them up to be weird this is good stuff give me the flintstones give me huckleberry hound
14:12give me mugsley give me the pink panther oh yeah right bugs mother bunny
14:22all right okay so i'll just guide that onto the actual rack yeah that sounds good all right so now
14:28we have all those components installed in the car we're ready to try to get it started however we're
14:33not going to do that with a hot wire we are going to install the steering column make all of the
14:37connections so that we can use the original ignition system to fire the car up okay good
14:45all right one end of it now yeah let me work it around the clutch a little bit
14:51and break we need to go towards you a little bit yet it's nice to have an extra set of hands and extra
14:57set of eyes on the engine compartment side as you're guiding that column through the firewall to make sure
15:02you're not hanging up on a on a header or scratching some fresh paint but ultimately it's a matter of
15:08just getting it up against the firewall putting your three bolts in place and then you have two more
15:13nuts that will fasten it up against the dash there we go we're good now so better a little more better
15:21i'm gonna get a couple of nuts started here
15:23hopefully that's in place now so let's move forward with the final wiring under here
15:33the connection and see if we can't get that thing running let's do it gotta hear it right
15:37cannot wait i want to feel that cold air i gots to feel my cold air oh it's gonna be chilly
15:44hey this installation went great the dash is in place the columns in place and everything's tightened
15:49and snugged up we've got all our wiring in place we've got all our venting in place for
15:53the air conditioning we're ready to fire this little 392 hemi up i am looking forward to getting
15:59the car running because once we have the car running we can do our new this is the very first
16:03time we ever use vintage air we have a complete system on the car and i just i cannot wait to see
16:08how it works because it's such a simple system that if it truly works the way that we're hoping
16:12it does it's going to revolutionize a lot of our dream car builds where we don't have to start
16:16with a car that's a factory air car we can make it an air car we just installed the dash assembly you
16:27got all the wire connections made we just installed the column you got all the wire connections made so
16:31we're getting ready to do an initial fire off the exhaust system is on it so it's not as loud and
16:35obnoxious as a lot of them obey bummer i know show the little boys and girls in tv land what a power
16:44train distribution block is center that's close okay we have a power train control module here
16:53power train control module okay it's your computer basically okay that's the processor basically yeah
17:00okay this is what's called a power distribution center i was mixing the two i often do that with
17:05metaphors power distribution center so that's all your fuses that you're going to need and all your
17:10relays to be able to run this engine correct we still have the factory fuse box underneath the dash
17:17but this is what you need for this engine yeah okay you have all of the fans and relays ran through
17:24the power train distribution okay and they're all hooked up to the be cool radiator close they're
17:29there are a couple of relays for the radiator and its fans that stand apart from the power
17:36distribution center for example right here is our fan relay okay yeah that wouldn't have anything to
17:42do with the mopar running because it doesn't know or care whether you're running something like that
17:46you're not using that system got it historically every one of these things we've cranked over fired within
17:5210 15 seconds of getting a little bit of memory yeah so if you would like to do that sure i can do that
17:59oh have you bled out the sweet little brakes i have bled out the sweet little brake system can't
18:03wait to try that four-wheel disc brakes from our friends oh yeah good that actually should stop
18:09that should really be a nice system i would imagine yeah the drum brakes stopped too but i i just know
18:14it's going to be a lot less heat and i'll say wait that's why i'm talking people out of hellcats in
18:18these cars everybody they're one oh i gotta have a hellcat hellcat red i gotta have a elephant
18:23go drive it with that and you can't keep it straight through the first four years so all right we're going to
18:28get him in the driver's seat and fire this mother up let's do it we have the dash in brian has it
18:34final assembled so the very next thing we need to do now before the rest of the assembly is get that
18:39engine running okay it's a slow learner like my cousin dougie that's okay takes time to learn things
18:49let's try that again
18:54there she goes that's what i'm talking about that's what i'm talking about listen to that
19:01idling a little fast no rpm data yet it might idle down here in a minute it might be on a bit of a fast
19:09idle oh that sounds good yeah it's on fast idle right now something while it's warming up there i want
19:16to point out is this is the factory starter relay because we're running original rally gauges inside
19:23the car and the rest of the system we want to seem original we still run the old analog system the old
19:2812 volts right to this starter relay got the starter bypass circuit into it the clutch safety switch we run
19:35all those and they're idled down you heard that beautiful listen to that like a sewing machine
19:43so now we can run all the factory gauges while we're running the late model third generation hemi
19:48that sounds so good i love these things this is probably the 10th one of these that we've installed
19:55these crate engines you know they're they've revolutionized certain aspects of restoration it
20:01allows us to be able to bring a old school car into the modern century into the 21st century these
20:07little engines you you get the mopar controller for it fires right up piece of cake starts up it idles
20:15it knows it's warm it knows it's cold it's like santa claus right knows it's been bad or good this
20:20is a great system to put into a car if you don't want to turn wrenches on your car some guys want to
20:25a lot of the guys are old school like me we want to get out there and crank that down and adjust this and
20:30brag to our friends how we got it running better than anybody could get it running but if you don't want
20:34to do all that and you want to start a car and you want to run it you want to go drive it the crate
20:38engines they're well made they're durable they're dependable they get great mileage compared to our
20:44old ones because there are electronic fuel injection they even have ports inside the car that you can
20:50connect to with a scan tool and just see what's going on if it won't start hook up your scanner go to
20:57the local whatever parts store that has it and they'll scan it for you and tell you why why it's acting
21:03funny so yeah this is a great alternative to an old school engine for one of these cars that is
21:12still affordable for the same amount of money as a 392 it would cost me that much or more to build a 440
21:17so just keep that in mind folks when you're talking about your dream cars so what we're going to do here
21:21is we're going to get it up to operating temperature purge the system make sure all the coolant and
21:26everything is where it's supposed to be then we're going to charge the air conditioning we charge the ac and
21:31it works and it blows cold and again this is our new vintage system we've never done it before but
21:35if it works then i'm cutting him loose to go ahead and get the windshield in it all of the interior in
21:39it get it down get it aligned and we can call the owners who want to come and check out their car for
21:44the first time good job b-dog i don't do high five you're going to be looking for one of the other guys
21:49just when i go like that that's the high five you're a germaphobe i don't like people okay
21:54after the break with a 392 hemi running smoothly mark and brian break in the new ac system how's it
22:04doing it's coming down but will they have time to sort out all the kinks he only gave me 10 hours to
22:11get the same to the alignment shop for mark and alissa's father-daughter road test i tend to look
22:18short knee sink well you are short find out when great yard cars returns
22:28okay so we have our system connected right now and basically what you've got is you've got a high
22:35side and you have a low side high side here low side here it's that simple that's because there's
22:40two sides of the air conditioning system i'm not going to teach you how to do all the ac stuff
22:45just going to show you how to do this right here with the machine hooked up like we have here you
22:48can see that we're at about zero we're not in a negative and we're not under pressure right we're
22:54pretty much at zero yep what we want to do is make sure that there's no leak in the system right
22:59there's two ways to do it we could shoot a half a pound of freon into it watch it go up and destroy
23:04our ozone layer or we could do the opposite and pull a vacuum on the system right that's what we're
23:09going to do so it's just like if you're at a restaurant and you take your straw and you put it down in
23:14your soda and then you put your finger over the end of it and you bring it up right if that straw
23:18is good and there's no cracks in that straw it's not going to drop anything out of it the minute
23:22you pull your finger off the end it's going to or if it had a crack it's going to leak if this has
23:27a leak we're not going to be able to pull it down to 30 inches of vacuum we're just not going to be
23:31able to because it's constantly drawing in more air so the first thing we have to do is put the system
23:36under vacuum then what we're going to do is we're going to hit the vacuum button and we're going to tell
23:40it how long in this particular case we only need 10 minutes on there so we're going to change this
23:44to one zero point there you go and now i'm going to hit enter and now it needs you to connect and open
23:53the hp you're already connected so open the two valves okay okay so we're completely open so now with
23:59those open we're going to hit the enter button and it's going to start up here in a second when it does
24:03you're going to watch this gate see that gauge pull down and that one pull down it is now pulling
24:08vacuum on the system when it's down to vacuum and the machine shuts off we end up watching it for
24:14about 10 minutes to make sure it's not going to bleed off right and then at that point we're ready to
24:19put the freon in for the first time one thing to note here while it's pulling a vacuum on the system
24:24the compressor that we got from vintage air came with oil in it the exact amount of oil it would need
24:31to be able to service the system so when we go to the service section it says how much oil do you
24:36want to add our answer is none right how much do they recommend while as far as freon goes 1.8
24:43pounds of freon r134a okay yeah if that's what they recommend that's what we'll do yeah 30 inches
24:49of vacuum on that side and this side it's 30 also but we're ready to fill the system now with that's
24:54right right yep okay we talked about it a minute ago it takes 1.8 pounds according to vintage air
24:58to be able to charge the system yes so to do that we'll do it manually we'll hit the manual button what do
25:03we want to do do we want to inject oil do we want to vacuum do we want to just charge just to charge
25:08just to charge so we're going to hit charge and the charge amount we're going to click that right
25:13there and we're going to make it 1.8 lbs is that right yep okay sure it's in pounds okay it's in
25:23pounds all right so we got our 1.8 right there and now we're going to hit enter connect and open the
25:29high and low pressure side so there it is there we're good and he's got that locked in there so
25:36at that point we're ready to hit enter and what will happen here is getting ready to start when
25:42it starts putting freon on the system see that gauge go up like that see that gauge coming up like that
25:47right there it is put in 0.32 of a pound and that's going to continue crawling up until it reads 1.8
25:55at which point it'll say disconnect the machine and fire it up fire it up so let's just watch that
26:00thing for a second yeah it usually goes pretty quick on the old cars those systems are so
26:06cantankerous i mean we've done these quite a few times now yeah this is our first vintage but the
26:10old cars they just fight you all the way if it's not an expansion valve then it's evaporators leaking
26:17if it's not that the compressor is locked up it had too much oil not enough oil wrong oil in it
26:21sometimes you just you just don't know why it's doing it it's frustrating like right now we're
26:26we're up to 1.73 pounds we've got just a little bit more almost there in a few seconds we're going
26:31to be green light go to disconnect and fire it up yeah look at that 1.8 pounds it likes it now it says
26:39disconnect the high pressure coupling and start ac system with the lp coupling connected and press enter
26:46so leave the lp connected disconnect the high pressure we're going to fire it up okay now that
26:52we have the system completely full we have it at the 1.8 pounds which is what's required we're ready
26:57to fire up the system and see if we can get it to cool down in all theory and all practical hood
27:02it should just cool right down we try to get it around 20 to 25 degrees below whatever the temperature
27:08in the shop is so in this particular case i think we're around 55 60 degrees so if we can get it down
27:13even to 40 or anything less than that then the system is working great does it want the gauges
27:18connected while we run it not this one okay but we can if we want to you could yes okay so i'm gonna
27:25start the car and well i'm take it easy okay crazy nut job that's well i've heard others i just like
27:31following instructions is that such a bad thing it said start the system we'll start the system disconnect
27:36and start the system well then start the damn system we're gonna start it well are you supposed
27:40to disconnect that too no oh well let's start all right then here we go why it's so difficult
27:50it's going to take it a second to get it through the system
27:53to where he can actually feel the registers coming down so he's got a thermometer that he's putting in
27:59one of the registers so we can keep an eye on it on a day like today if we can get this into the 30s
28:05that's cold how's it doing it's coming down okay about what 45 yeah about 45. moving down towards
28:1640 right in that 40 42. that's there that's pretty good yeah it's 39. there you go we're gonna call
28:23the ball at 39 and that's without driving it down the road because when you go down the road and you
28:27run that air all the way through that condenser like that it's gonna drop even more good job so with
28:32that you're and no i'm not high-fiving i just i stopped you know i think i didn't i make this
28:37really clear a couple seasons ago about that the high five and the fist bump and all that weird i
28:42don't like it i don't trust it and i don't understand it that whole thing that fist bump the high five
28:47all that celebratory horse crap isn't that out now it's you don't see me running around in a members
28:54only jacket right stop the high-fiving stop then i'm not gonna do it okay you can hold your hand up
28:59there all day long i don't care i just think you're taking an oath i am not gonna slap that
29:03damn thing if you come up and give me 20 million dollars i'll give you a high five how much for a
29:07fist bump fist bump 10 million so with that i am going to cut you loose to finish up all your work
29:14on it okay and we have an appointment friday for the alignment boy and for the glass okay so that's how
29:22long you got all right that's how you do it tv land all right he only gave me 10 hours to get this
29:33thing to the alignment shop what's that all about all right so the air conditioning is working great
29:42and blowing cold the engine runs great i'm cutting brian loose now to finish the interior which is going
29:47to be your trim panels on the front and the rear kick panels the rest of the little bit of wiring
29:52asked to do carpeting console that will wrap up the interior then we will take it down and have
29:59the alignment done after the alignment we can go out and go on a road test with it
30:10ready to go for a road test in 1970 barracuda yes you remember this car
30:16yeah with the car yeah good so last time i drove this car it had a 340 with a four speed in it i was
30:21used to driving this type of car it drove a lot like the classic muscle cars do or even like my
30:26kia spectra 5 back when i was in high school what you're the one that bought it for me
30:32how are you gonna buy me a kia spectra 5 and then make fun of it later on like what is that
30:36so i have not driven any of the third generation hemi cars so i'm a little bit nervous on what to
30:41expect i do remember when mr martinez went out in his white road runner and it scared him to death so
30:49i need you to put these on why dad we're right next to each other i know that but this is for the camera
30:54people okay so this goes on here this allows me to tell those no mark gentlemen and lady
31:03not to do what they did last year do you remember what happened last year no driving down the road in a
31:08black hemi charger getting some beautiful driving footage aaron and tiny at the helm make a mistake
31:17well other than a little bit of a shift problem so far feels good doesn't it feels nice yeah got
31:22our new camera rig over there say hi to all the camera guys hi camera guys my camera guys hi satan
31:30they're gonna hit that camera they're gonna hit that camera what's he
31:32they have that boom swung all the way out to the right and i got to pick up my radio and said pull
31:40it back pull it back because they're about to hit a tree and i can't even get to the radio before they
31:44hit the tree it caves the roof in and destroys the magnum caves half the equipment destroys the camera
31:50so now we have to wear these so now we have to wear these that's right that's right did it not make
31:54them in a smaller version yeah these are great these this looks like you got it from radio shock
31:59in 1980 this is insane okay now i'm gonna let you drive this in a minute but i want to show you all
32:04the gears this is a five speed if your headphones on we can just communicate that way one of the things
32:10my dad has told me is that these cars are much more responsive because of the fuel injection so i know
32:15to be a little bit more careful when i go out to test drive this car but don't get me wrong i'm
32:19really excited it's not every day my dad lets me drive a car breaker breaker you got a copy uh
32:25breaker breaker do you have a copy are you talking to me yeah yes i can hear you audio pop you got a
32:32copy copy that tray i can clear okay what does this even look like they look great yeah get a selfie
32:38that's right get a selfie yeah you can see how stupid this is this is brilliant this is gonna avoid
32:44me losing a hundred thousand dollars on a piece of camera equipment you just you can't convince me that
32:48they didn't make it in a smaller version oh these are perfect still to come alissa's worst fears
32:55become reality when riding shotgun in the 1970 hemi barracuda this is exactly what i didn't want to
33:04happen today but does alissa's experience get much better when mark hands over the wheel
33:09come outside i've never wanted to get back to the shop so bad find out when graveyard cars returns
33:24all right here we go here we go again i think weights turn all the way up you're loud turn your
33:30volume down i don't care i gotta move my seat back just a little bit there we go there we go i tend to
33:35look short in these things well you are short all right so we got a five speed except the only
33:40difference is we on this one the five speed is all the way over and up you'll never get into it first
33:46second third fourth fifth if you need it and then straight back for reverse yeah like yay sometimes i
33:53think you think i'm stupid i don't think you're stupid i just you haven't driven a termic five speed
33:58before i think i have this dress nice oh god oh she's a snorkeler why she's a case snorkeler
34:11it's cold see this is exactly what i hate i i don't think it could get any worse he's got control
34:16of the car and he's got a microphone in my ear last time my dad had a brilliant idea i don't know if
34:22you remember it was the tray cam and the tray sound so this just is not going to end well ah now this
34:30has got rack and pinion steering isn't that nice yeah it's great yeah it's also got willwood four
34:37wheel disc brakes so i want to stop i'm stopping got it yeah seat belts were good too seat belt i don't
34:45i don't i try not to wear them are you not wearing your seat belt oh it's on there don't tell nobody
34:50all right i wish i had like a handle though what are you supposed to grab a hold of
34:57you scared mary can i scare you yeah because you're insane
35:07see this is exactly what i didn't want to happen today i almost died this is why my mom will not
35:13drive with him why do we have the top down though it's it's a beautiful sunny day this is the kind of
35:18driving you that ragtops are built for in the summer have you not seen 48 hours
35:24nick nolte eddie murphy i'm a red top man
35:30all right see that like it's on rails did you ever wreck a car when you were younger yep i wrapped a gto
35:38around a foam bowl let me show you how i did it no please don't you know i'm no angel i've wrecked
35:43cars okay the the biggest wreck that i remember having was my 67 goat it's a sunday morning night
35:49after you know drinking some hooch and having some fun going out cruising and stuff i had jerry
35:54crandall on my right i had alan white in my left i had andy in the back seat there and we took a left
36:00off of franklin boulevard onto henderson it was wet out went around the corner pitched a little bit to the
36:05side bang second gear came back this way about that time old jerry thinks he's gonna be cool and
36:10just take a swig of his soda so he's got his soda and he's drinking his soda i shift third gear swings
36:15back around it's a fishtail none of that drifting crap and just time it almost went around i stuffed
36:21the clutch bang fourth gear and it came around like this but i couldn't stop the momentum of it
36:25all the way over here's a foam pole
36:27spun me around a couple times in the road i'm at a complete stop jerry chipped his tooth on the
36:34pepsi bottle alan white in the left rear when he got out of the car the armrest was stuck in his ribs
36:41he had back problems after that for the rest of his life right after the time he died he could hardly
36:46bend over on his left side so but that's those are the memories you know that you want to build you
36:51want to be able to have stories like that to share you know how about you camera guy you ever paralyze
36:55anybody you ever bust anybody's ribs up well can't say i have yeah memories that's what driving was
37:04those are experiences that's unfortunate that you can't appreciate it sounds like it's that's
37:09unfortunate you feel dangerous no no this is just driving an old car this is what they're built for
37:15man is it when they came off the assembly line there was a guy meeting every single person saying listen
37:20if you drive this car like an old lady we're going to come get it from you like men in black
37:24remember when they had that little dude inside the cabinet they opened it up that little dude yeah
37:30yeah that was great what is he talking about the men on the assembly line telling people how to drive
37:35the cars they weren't even sold yet who are they telling the other line workers but drives nice right
37:40i'm gonna get up here to the dmv and let you take over oh my gosh this is some oh yeah come on what is this
37:55call it fishtailing
37:56oh my god take me back okay
38:10oh and you're wearing a number one dad shirt are you serious yeah i got my number one dad shirt on
38:15okay nice and easy back to the shop this is the kind of memories you can share with trey when you
38:19get home trey jr tj i'm not gonna let him drive with you ever call him tj just drive careful going
38:25back i just want to see are you serious after that what after all of that i don't trust you you have
38:30no idea what if the throttle sticks or does the column locks i almost killed two people in my lifetime
38:35okay i i just made three these look cool man check it out oh it's like football nasa i'm all
38:44stressed out yeah these are like uh seat move up or anything the head coaches wear these look it makes
38:49sense when the head coaches wear them they're in a packed out stadium full of screaming people they're
38:54like 100 feet away from the person they're trying to talk to it makes sense it looks cool in that
38:58situation secondly it doesn't matter how cool my dad tries to look okay he's wearing a huge microphone
39:03that looks like it's from the 70s on top of his head riding around in a convertible talking to
39:08the person next to him seemed just weird to go back and forth it's a very tight neutral gate on
39:13these five speeds very tight yep there you go so when i'm talking about the shift pattern being tighter
39:18on this if you go back to one of our old cars any of our cars that original with a pistol grip you've got
39:23levers coming out of the side of the transmission they have to have levers put onto them those levers get
39:28shift rods put on the shift rods go back to a shift box that goes up into a shifter
39:33so it's like integral steering there are so many components it creates play in the system so one
39:40two three four maybe it's nine ten twelve inches in between you know the first and parking it and
39:46second where you get into these where the shifter goes right into the transmission it's a very tight
39:51system one two three four literally you can just almost do that you don't have to use the elbow and
39:56the shoulder you could literally go boom boom boom they're that tight so that's what i was letting her know
40:03the clutch is all the way off the floor geez well it's a hydraulic clutch just take it easy okay
40:08yeah it's not yeah this the head coaches were these yeah yeah they put their hand over their mouth
40:14and say yeah call 42 blue wide deep 42 blue wide deep and then they and then they move it up like this
40:21tell you who else uses them top gun fighter pilots you ever watch top gun of course the only good one
40:28one second one's just a repeat of the first one
40:42that was from first to second that was nice yeah yeah if you're 100 years old it's great yeah you're
40:55a good driver i taught you how to drive a stick take your perk brake actually did it doesn't matter
41:00take it off what are you doing why are you playing sorry i thought you could press it down and come all
41:05the way up yeah it's a 1970 it doesn't do that sorry it's not my fault it makes no sense you have
41:13to press the pedal down and it keeps going down all the way to the floor and then you have to pull a
41:17handle to release it what if you have nails it doesn't seem like it works that good it didn't stop us
41:21i've been walking central park singing after dark people think i'm crazy
41:28stumbling through the streets shuffling on my feet axing people what's the matter with you
41:41i've never wanted to get back to the shop so bad
41:46you know one last thing is we're driving the car around and having some fun it's neat that we can go
41:50back now six or eight years i'm sorry it's taken us that long to do a car but and see the car beforehand
41:57compare it to it compare the drivability of it elissa has the opportunity here to see the difference
42:03between the 340 that she drove and the 392. but you know how we looked we looked a little different i
42:08was a little younger she was a little younger i think she had emma at the time but none of the other
42:12ones who would have thought graveyard cars becomes a family when all it talks about family and all that
42:17stuff but now we literally have generations that have enjoyed our show or at least two generations that
42:23have enjoyed our show but i get the luxury when i'm old and feeble in a rest home somewhere nobody
42:29will come visit me you'll forget me as soon as i'm off tv that's fine i can sit back and watch my old
42:34shows start way down on season one episode one you just watch them all the way through of course you
42:42could go to our youtube channel and watch all of the episodes that are available we're on a lot of
42:49stuff you're gonna want to watch us we are the show everybody wants to be oh stand m-o-o-n that spells roll
