Falkirk FC manager John McGlynn speaking after his side's 2-2 home draw with Hibs in the #SPFL #ScottishPremiership.
Transcript
00:00John, you must be really proud of your players after that one.
00:03Absolutely, you're right. That's the right word to use.
00:06Very, very proud of the players, the performance that they've put on there.
00:09I thought we started the game actually very well.
00:11The hips came into the game.
00:13It was nip and tuck.
00:15We're not going to have as much of a ball as we've had in the Championship in League One,
00:20so we know that we're going to have to do well without the ball.
00:23I thought we were doing that.
00:25The penalty's out of nothing.
00:27And we probably scored a decent second goal.
00:32We found ourselves 2-0 down.
00:34I think a little bit harsh on us at that time.
00:37But the goal that we get back before half-time certainly makes the team talk at half-time a much easier one
00:46and gives the players a lot of confidence and belief going out into the second half,
00:50which I felt we were a better team in the second half and went towards the Hibs goal.
00:56You know, continuously as much as we possibly could.
01:00And getting the goal back for Liam Henderson, I thought it was no more than we deserved.
01:04I thought the team mentality was great.
01:06I thought the team spirit was great.
01:08They put everything into it.
01:09As a manager, you couldn't ask for an awful lot more to be 2-0 down against a team like Hibs.
01:15And come back and find killers and trying to continue to win the game as well as much as we possibly could.
01:24You mentioned the penalty, John. What are your thoughts on it?
01:27I suppose by the letter of the law, he stops the ball going in the box.
01:33But it's a long throw when the ball's come out, he's running out.
01:39And he's just hit very, very close to him.
01:43But his hands are there.
01:47So, I suppose by the letter of the law, he might well be right.
01:51I think it's a little bit harsh.
01:54But that was always separating the teams at half-time.
01:56There's not an awful lot you can do about these things.
01:59You just hope over the course of the season, leaving themselves out.
02:04I think it's the first time I've been involved in a VAR situation.
02:08I think we're in our fifth game.
02:10Does that take some getting used to the VAR decisions now you're in the Premiership?
02:16Yeah, you never have to think about it when you're in League One
02:19or in the Champions League, you don't have to really bother about it.
02:22So, yeah.
02:23Yeah.
02:24We're only five games and I'm sure there's going to be loads more.
02:31What do you say? The boys are half-time, obviously.
02:33Great to go back.
02:34What sort of...?
02:35I feel like we were in the game.
02:36I thought we were very much in the game.
02:37I do believe that every game we've been in, we deserve to be in this league.
02:40We've shown that.
02:41We've shown that even more so tonight, to be behind and come back.
02:44Most teams have just come up and go a couple of goals down
02:47to a team that can probably go under and lose 3-0 or 4-0.
02:51So, we took a lot of belief by that goal.
02:54The goal is huge.
02:55The goal at half-time is absolutely the reason why we ended up getting equaliser.
02:59Putting a little bit of Hibs on the back foot a little bit.
03:02You know, the fact that we've got that goal as well, that cushion.
03:05I think he's all aware that Hibs have been losing an awful lot of goals.
03:08He's just running right on half-time and just before half-time.
03:10So, it was something that we spoke about
03:12and thankfully our guys kept on going until the whistle went at half-time.
03:16And you've still got a lot of the core group that came up with you.
03:19How do you feel having that mentality from winning last year and the year before
03:22helps you not put the heads down and not fall to a bigger defeat today?
03:26The team spirit in the dressing room has been massive.
03:28It's a big reason as to why we've got here.
03:30We've all went and got here through spending loads and loads of money on players and all the rest of it.
03:34It's been players that have been very together.
03:37Players that want to be together.
03:39Players that want to play football in this way that we play.
03:44And due to that, they've got a winning mentality and they're stuck together tonight.
03:50We've just got to make sure that the new players are coming in,
03:52which I do believe tonight, Henry played and Ethan played.
03:57We're guys who have just come in the summer window some very late in the window and others previously.
04:05And we kind of lose that spirit that we've got and strong mentality tonight as well.
04:12And it's all partly down to the fact that these guys have been together for so long.
04:17And we've shown great loyalty in them and we deserve the opportunity to go and play in the Premier League.
04:21And if they can continue to do things like that, then we're hoping that some of them are only their fifth appearance in the Premiership.
04:31I mean, it's maybe a little bit different for like Scotty Arspiel,
04:34who's maybe got, I don't know, how many, 500 or something, whatever it may be.
04:38I don't know.
04:39So you've got to, you know, the guys are adapting on the pitch.
04:42You know, things are a bit different.
04:44Do you think that result from tonight is going to help you guys mentality-wise
04:48going through to Tyncastle on Saturday?
04:51Yeah, I think the result will be, I think they've put a hell of a lot of effort into that tonight.
04:56So we need to get the guys to recover very quickly and be ready for a huge game at Tyncastle on Saturday.
05:03Yeah, that result, of course, will help us no end, yeah.
