00:00All right, one of the luckiest covers of the college football season
00:02was Oklahoma laying six and a half
00:04and then getting Jackson Arnold in the end zone for that safety,
00:0724 to 17, the final there.
00:11So my takeaway from this, Bill,
00:14was that I thought Oklahoma's defense really came through in this one
00:18to help them win because John Mateer, while he was efficient,
00:21it didn't seem like the Sooners could get anything going
00:23either on the ground or in the air.
00:25And I think that they'll be in the mix at the end of the season.
00:27And Mateer's numbers are good.
00:28But we just may simply get this random season, Bill, of a Heisman, right?
00:34Like, I don't know that anyone is going to just run away with it
00:37or have one of these huge seasons in college football.
00:40I mean, Mateer could very well win it,
00:42but I think his numbers may end up being pedestrian
00:44as compared to some other winners.
00:46I mean, when you have Fernando Mendoza, John Mateer,
00:49Carson Beck is your prototypical Miami Heisman trophy winner
00:53like Vinny Testaverde and Gino Toretta were.
00:55You know, all he has to do is win and put up good numbers.
00:58I still think Jeremiah Smith is the guy because I think he's won.
01:03I think he's the best player in college football.
01:05Two, his numbers will be there.
01:06And three, he'll have enough big stage games starting with Washington this weekend
01:11in a line that we'll talk about later in the week.
01:14Penn State, Michigan, Big Ten championship game.
01:17If Jeremiah Smith is the best player on the field in all of those games,
01:20I think he'll win the Heisman trophy.
01:21I'm going to break that down later this afternoon for Sporting News.
01:24But you're absolutely right about the quarterbacks.
01:26You're absolutely right about the quarterbacks.
