00:00Poppy vending machine controversy. Let's talk about it.
00:03What are people saying about the popular Gut Healthy Soda brand, and why is everybody so mad?
00:08Well, brands are always trying to experiment with new tactics to get their sales up,
00:12and that includes gifting influencers who have all the money in the world, free stuff.
00:16When you think about it, it makes sense, you know, marketing to the masses, a monkey see, monkey do thing.
00:21Paired with a kind of out-of-touch Super Bowl commercial,
00:24the poppy vending machines were gifted to influencers so they could serve poppy at their Super Bowl parties
00:28and their really big houses.
00:30We all know that extravagant houses need extravagant vending machines.
00:34Also, we don't know how many of these influencers actually vouch for poppy like that,
00:38so that's why a lot of avid poppy drinkers are pretty mad about it.
00:41And along with a vending machine, of course, you need 25 12-packs of poppy.
00:45And this is a little funny because I feel like last year, and even this year,
00:49many avid poppy drinkers were talking about how they couldn't find their favorite flavors anywhere
00:53or any flavors at all in stores near them.
00:56So you could kind of tell who poppy is catering to.
00:59And now the average joe community is sort of realizing that brands live to serve influencers
01:04and not the people.
01:05Featured in the Super Bowl commercial are internet personalities like Jake Shane,
01:09along with Alex Earle, who's been getting heat for the past year or two since she rose to fame
01:14because people are saying that she's lacking relatability and now that she's super rich,
01:17which makes sense.
01:18I think the internet is sick of seeing rich people with perfect lives.
01:21We are way past that.
01:23And I think this controversy proves that the shift in marketing happening.
01:28It's no longer, oh my god, my favorite celebrity loves this brand.
01:31I'm going to love this brand too.
01:32And instead, it's like watching a commercial and saying, oh, I could have went to high school
01:35with that girl, you know?
01:37And users in marketing were saying that they should have loaned these vending machines
01:40to hospitals, college campuses, daycares, really anything the influencers chose.
01:45Because folks don't want to see another thing influencers get for free that they could have paid for.
01:49What do you think about this controversy?
01:51Let's see.
