The Mayor and Mayoress of Farnham invited a selected crowd of key townspeople and dignitaries to St Andrew's on Sunday for a Civic Service. The one-hour event included a rousing rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, an interview and a promise of office.
Transcript
00:00You'll never walk a home
00:17Civil War society there.
00:20All in their gear.
00:22Anyway, we're all blessed with that.
00:24Anyway, I get to fire a cannon.
00:27That is an absolute trick, right?
00:30You know that boys thing you do?
00:32Like boys toys.
00:33It was one of the biggest boys toys I've ever had.
00:37Well, my main charity this year is the Hale Youth Club Community Centre up in Hale.
00:44There's a bit of a divide between south and north and I think everybody will acknowledge that.
00:49I went to the Sandy Hill estate last year with the chairman of Farmer Town Football Club
00:57and we were handing out awards to their end of season awards for their little community football team.
01:05So Farmer's a, as you know, wealthy town, but this is quite a deprived little area.
01:10And these kids didn't have anything.
01:12They didn't have, I mean, they already had balls.
01:14They didn't have kids.
01:15They didn't, you know, they weren't even.
01:16Because in South Farmer, they wouldn't be, you know, FA coaching and they'd have the whole thing.
01:22But these didn't have nothing.
01:23And they were just little badges they were given, you know, to say thank you for coming and turning up.
01:28And it really moved me.
01:30I really thought, well, you know, there's such a disparity.
01:33Some of this town and its people, to the best of your ability, is this your intent and purpose?
01:40That is my resolve with the help of God.
