A 43-year-old Canberra man is behind bars, accused of murder. After an altercation at a caravan park in the city's south on Monday. Paul Bray put his head in his hands during a brief appearance by video link, in the ACT magistrates court - where he was formally charged over the death of 34-year-old Matthew McGrail.

00:00On Tuesday, Paul Bray was granted bail in the ACT Magistrates Court, where he was charged
00:08with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.
00:11The victim was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and never recovered.
00:16Tragically, today he succumbed to those injuries.
00:19Bray told police at the time the pair got into an argument and he suggested he'd acted
00:25in self-defence.
00:27During his bail application, the ACT's Chief Magistrate said it was a serious example
00:33of grievous bodily harm.
00:35It's not clear in the facts if the victim will get better or worse.
00:40But Chief Magistrate Walker released Mr Bray dismissing fears he may interfere with evidence
00:46as speculation.
00:48Police still don't know what caused the altercation.

00:57events that took place earlier prior to the man dying and the altercation taking place

01:11Police detained him earlier today and formally charged him with murder.
