01:15Not so far
01:16The informant called 999 a few minutes ago
01:19But withheld her name and number
01:20She said she heard a woman screaming
01:22Just after midnight
01:23Why did you wait so long to report it?
01:28Hello, police, open up
01:29All right, time to move in
01:34I roll
01:37The window's open
01:40Right, you two get me on the back
01:41In case anyone's making a quick exit
01:43Hello?
01:46Oh, caffeine hit
01:50I needed that
01:50Yeah, I don't know how you feel
01:52I think I got more than four hours last night
01:54Oh, yeah
01:55I kept you up
01:56I was out partying
01:58My mates just got back from Barbados
01:59Does nothing get through to you?
02:03All I could think about last night
02:04Was why on earth did I listen to you
02:05Not hang on for Colin Crowe to turn up
02:08So you could bang that walnut on her
02:09Instead of skiving off on refs
02:12You're as bad as Gina Gold
02:13She gave me a right mouthful
02:15Said that I'd screwed up all by myself
02:16What would you expect?
02:19You can't do this job
02:20I'll keep on breaking the rules
02:21What would you expect?
02:51I'll go and check upstairs
02:52Oh, Smithy?
03:00It's all right
03:00I'm Inspector Gold
03:01And this is Sergeant Smith
03:03But I didn't call you
03:04Looks like you should have done
03:06Someone called 9-9 a few minutes ago
03:09Said they heard screaming
03:10What's happening there?
03:13It's OK
03:13I'm sorting it
03:15It doesn't look OK
03:16Neither do you
03:16Oh, they're all so
03:21I've spent ages on them
03:25Well, what are they?
03:29Um, I'm doing this chorus
03:31Well, I'm sure they'd understand
03:35Look, you've got a nasty head wound
03:37I think we should get you to hospital
03:39I'm trying to clean it up
03:40Sierra Oscar from 54
03:43Can I get an ambulance, please?
03:45To 42, that's 42 River Mill Lane
03:49Female with head injuries
03:50Mum, we've checked out the back
03:52There's no sign of forced entry
03:53All received, over
03:54What's your name, darling?
03:58Ellie
03:58Ellie Peters
03:59So, when did all this happen?
04:02I don't know
04:03About midnight, just after
04:05And?
04:08I'd been out
04:09And when I got back
04:11This guy was here sitting on the sofa
04:13Well, did you know him?
04:19No
04:19Well, he had a
04:21This stalking thing on his face
04:23Pacey Valentine
04:25Do a door-to-door
04:26See if anyone heard anything
04:27So much
04:28You all right to go on?
04:33He started punching me
04:35I was screaming
04:37He said I knew what I'd done
04:40And if I didn't stop screaming
04:43He'd really hurt me
04:44Did he sexually assault you?
04:48No
04:48Just kicking and stuff
04:51He was wrecking the place
04:53Going mental
04:54Why didn't you down 999 when he left?
04:58I couldn't think straight
05:01My mobile was gone
05:04He'd smashed the phone up
05:05I took some painkillers
05:08I must have just passed out
05:09Pacey Kapoor will go to the hospital with you
05:13Right
05:13I want my money back
05:18You can't do this at Christmas time
05:20Your stuff is rubbish
05:21You should not be selling it
05:23Have that crap back
05:24Hey
05:24What's going on?
05:27Are you all right?
05:28Yeah
05:28Sorry, what's your name?
05:29Nothing
05:30Well, it didn't look like nothing
05:31You sound really wound up
05:33I bought stuff for my kid sisters
05:35These dolls that walk and talk don't do nothing
05:37Messed up their Christmas
05:39What's your name?
05:41Matt
05:41Matt Ritchie
05:42Look, I've got to go home
05:44Just hang on a sec
05:46Mr. Hassan reckons that he's trying it on
05:50He says he looked like he was going to trash the place
05:52Shall I just have a round?
05:54Yeah
05:55Listen, Matt
05:58I know you're upset
05:59But it's not worth doing anything stupid
06:01Your sisters are lucky you care so much
06:04Well, how do you think they'd feel if you got into trouble, eh?
06:06Sorry, it's just time of year, you know
06:10A little thing and you flip
06:11Yeah, I know, it is a bit mad, isn't it?
06:13But a few more days and it'll all be over
06:16Well, well, thanks for your help
06:19Anyway, cheers
06:19Good, all right
06:23Thank you very much
06:24Is there anyone you want me to contact?
06:29No, my family's all in Scotland
06:31My dad worries himself sick as it is
06:33What about a boyfriend or...
06:35I finished with him a few months ago
06:37And you haven't seen him since?
06:40A couple of times, yeah
06:41What's his name?
06:46Sean, Sean Burroughs
06:47We're still mates
06:49He knew what he wanted and I didn't
06:51He's older, very together
06:54And what does he do?
06:57He's an accountant
06:58I just do bar work and stuff
07:00Let myself drift
07:02You said you'd seen him a few times
07:05Did you see him last night?
07:07I had a drink with a girl who's on my design course
07:09Here
07:10Is this the course you did those drawings for?
07:14The ones that got damaged?
07:16Yeah
07:16I always wanted to go back to college
07:19Somehow it was never the right time
07:21Sean hated my stuff all over the house
07:24In this place I can spread myself out
07:26Work all night if I want
07:27It must be really expensive living there by yourself
07:31Big house, just for you
07:34The rent's lower, that's how I can afford it
07:36So you can't think of any reason for the attack last night?
07:42I can't, no
07:43I must have thought I was someone else
07:45Sean was right
07:48Why, what do you say?
07:51That I wouldn't be able to hack living on my own
07:53Have we located this informant who made the call?
07:57It wasn't one of the neighbours
07:58Well they're not earning up to it anyway
08:00Let's get a copy of the 999 tape
08:02He didn't do such a good job on the phone in the kitchen
08:0417 messages
08:13Persistent, aren't they?
08:15What is this?
08:16It seems like someone was very keen to speak to Ellie last night
08:18They were all left between 11.07 and 11.55, Mum
08:22Right, check them out
08:23Interesting reading?
08:24Very
08:24You're going to pay for what you did?
08:27There's loads more of them
08:28Do you know what you've got coming?
08:30No envelopes
08:31Presumably just sent to the occupier
08:34Number withheld, Mum
08:35Of course
08:36Why hasn't Ellie mentioned any of this to us?
08:38Now that is a very good question
08:41Bit posh for a student's hour, isn't it?
08:46Hello?
08:48What? Oh, um, sorry, I didn't get that
08:51What was it?
08:52I was wondering why you were raring to go out on the streets this morning
08:56Oi!
08:57Are you going to tell me what's on your mind or not?
09:00I saw Louise yesterday
09:02Sorry? Am I hearing right?
09:04Did you just say you saw Louise yesterday? Louise Larson, wife of Pete Larson
09:09She's giving evidence against him and then she's going to go into witness protection
09:12Oh, so you were saying goodbye
09:16Sorry, Smithy
09:19Must have been hard
09:20She's asked me to go with her and I told her that I'd think about it
09:23What?
09:24I can't seriously intend that it would mean giving up your job
09:28You've put your socks off to get where you are now
09:30Yeah, and I've sacrificed every relationship I've had to do it
09:31How long have you been receiving these letters, Ellie?
09:32A couple of weeks
09:33I didn't report them because I thought they were meant for someone who used to live there
09:35There wasn't a name on the envelope, they were just addressed to the occupier
09:37Do you have the name of the letting agency? We can check out past tenants
09:38Er, there's a card in my bag
09:39Between 1107 and 1155, there were 17 messages on your answer machine
09:42All silent
09:43Were you there when the phone rang?
09:44I don't know
09:45I don't know
09:46How long have you been receiving these letters, Ellie?
09:47How long have you been receiving these letters, Ellie?
09:48A couple of weeks
09:49I didn't report them because I thought they were meant for someone who used to live there
09:51There wasn't a name on the envelope, they were just addressed to the occupier
09:52Do you have the name of the letting agency? We can check out past tenants
09:55Er, there's a card in my bag
09:57Between 1107 and 1155, there were 17 messages on your answer machine
10:04All silent
10:05Were you there when the phone rang?
10:07It must have been when I was out
10:10Could have been a wrong number
10:1117 times?
10:13Well, maybe the thug who beat me up called the house, how should I know?
10:17Leela tells me that you finished with your boyfriend recently
10:20Could this be anything to do with him, with Sean?
10:22Might be trying to scare you back
10:23What, so he got some guy to come and beat me up? That's crazy
10:26Okay, Ellie, we're going to leave you in peace
10:30Could we have your ex-boyfriend's address?
10:3337 Wells Avenue
10:36He's got nothing to do with this
10:40Thanks
10:42Will I give her the third degree, Roger? She is the victim in this
10:48I hate seeing women like that, having a life squeezed out of her by some control freak
10:52We don't know, this is down to her ex
10:54We need to find out who's lived there before, in case the letters were aimed at them
10:58If this isn't down to her ex-boyfriend, why didn't she report the assault?
11:02She must have thought he was involved
11:04I'm not sure it's worth the expense of sending these to forensics
11:10Ellie's prints are going to be all over her
11:12Look, I'm asking a simple question
11:14I realise this is confidential information, but this is a police investigation
11:18Weird, do you think she'd have told someone?
11:20Yeah
11:22It'd be useful to find out more about the land lady
11:24Find out why I only got the place of dirt chief
11:26Thank you
11:28What'd you get?
11:29Well, 42 River Mill Lane is owned by a Miss Joine Marston
11:32The letting agency say they manage a number of properties for her
11:35And she's got quite a big portfolio
11:37But she's scaling down
11:38I've got an office address for her
11:40Lowcombe Properties Limited
11:41Okay, just hit me up to speed or what?
11:44Yeah, yeah
11:45Susie, if you have a chat with Joine Marston, I'll do some digging
11:48Try and find a reason why she's scaling down
11:50Yeah, take a look at those
11:53If you need any help, I'm up to speed with everything
11:55Cheers, we'll let you know
11:59Happy night
12:03Listen, um...
12:05I'll see what we've got on Joine Marston before I go, okay?
12:08Yeah
12:11Is this about Ellie?
12:15Why would you think that, Mr Burrows?
12:17Well, I've been trying to reach her on her mobile, it keeps going to voicemail
12:20Ellie was attacked yesterday
12:23Oh, my God
12:26Oh, my God, I knew something was wrong, is she okay?
12:28We hope so
12:29Well, I have to see her, where is she? St Hughes
12:31She didn't want anyone contacted
12:33Where were you last night?
12:35Er, I was at a, er, works...
12:37When did it finish?
12:39Midnight, just after
12:40Just after
12:41You can check
12:42Oh, we will
12:43We'd like the numbers of your landline and mobile, please
12:46Oh, come on, what are you...
12:48What do you take me for?
12:49I'd never hurt Ellie
12:55Here
12:57Were you in the habit of phoning her?
13:01Someone rang Ellie and left a number of silent messages
13:04Would you know anything about this?
13:05Would you know anything about this?
13:06No, of course not
13:08I like to phone her occasionally to see if she's okay, but that sounds like stalking
13:13Someone's been sending threatening letters to Ellie's home recently
13:16What?
13:17She told me
13:18You haven't been trying to scare her into coming back, have you, Mr Burrows?
13:21Of course not
13:22When...
13:23If she comes back, it would be because she wanted to
13:25That's the only way it would work
13:26Do you have sort of keys for Ellie's house?
13:28We can ask her, of course
13:30I don't
13:31No
13:32Okay, Mr Burrows
13:35Thanks for your help
13:38We may need to talk to you again
13:44DC Sim?
13:45Ah, I'm so sorry
13:46Joanne Marston
13:47Do come in
13:48Thank you
13:51So, what can I do to help?
13:54Well, I'm not sure if you've heard already
13:57But one of your tenants, Ellie Peters, was assaulted in the early hours this morning
14:01At 42 River Mill Lane
14:04I hadn't known
14:06That's awful
14:07Do you know why somebody living at that address might have been attacked?
14:11No
14:12Why should I?
14:13Threatening letters have been arriving there
14:15Addressed to the occupant
14:17Saying what?
14:18Basically, time was up
14:20The occupier was going to pay for what they'd done
14:23So when Ellie Peters got home late last night, somebody jumped her
14:27Do you know who occupied the property before Miss Peters?
14:30I lived there for a while
14:32Could the letters have been for you?
14:34Why would they be?
14:35Ellie's rent is very low, is there a reason for that?
14:38It was only a short let
14:40I'm putting the place on the market in the spring
14:42I wanted someone in there who'd look after it
14:45How did her attacker get in?
14:47There was no sign of a forced entry
14:49There was no sign of a forced entry
14:50So somebody could have gotten hold of some keys
14:54Didn't you used to rent the accommodation to people on benefits?
14:57In the past?
14:58We've stopped that now
14:59It was too much trouble
15:00Well, it certainly was trouble for the agent you employed to look after your San Juan Road property, wasn't it?
15:05Sorry?
15:06I checked our records
15:08Two years ago, you were accused with a co-defendant, John McGrath
15:11Of defrauding the DSS by claiming benefits when no one was living in the flats
15:16John McGrath was found guilty
15:17That's right
15:18And I was totally cleared
15:20John McGrath was a crook
15:22Stupidly, I'd let him run the show
15:24I've wised up a lot since then
15:28Do you not think he might have harboured a little grudge against you?
15:32He was sentenced to a year in jail
15:34I heard he'd moved to Portugal
15:36Oh
15:37I'll try to find out if there have been any sightings
15:40Excuse me
15:42Sure
15:45Hi
15:46Yeah
15:48Okay
15:49Okay, I said I'd sort it
15:54Look, I've already told you, move on
15:56Yeah
15:57Alright, we'll check it out
15:58Trumps
16:00The shopkeeper that we spoke to earlier
16:03He said that that guy, Matt, went back after he left and grabbed some stuff off his shelf
16:07He ran off before he could stop him
16:09I thought I'd got through to him
16:10Obviously not
16:11Now, Mr Hassan's given us a list of all the things that were taken
16:15He reckons that Matt lives on Spicer Street and seen him at a betting shop
16:19I said we'd go and talk to him
16:21Well, it makes me just wonder why we'd bother
16:23So you think Ellie's ex could be involved?
16:27I think he might be a control freak, but I don't reckon he had a beaten up
16:30I've rung the old debris nightclub where he said he was last night
16:33He's now the way he checks out
16:34He could still have got a mate to go around and scare her and make those calls on his mobile
16:38I've just got this from Can
16:40Ellie made a 999 call five months ago
16:43And said her boyfriend was holding her at his house against her will
16:46When they got there, she said, well, it was a misunderstanding, she'd overreacted, everything was okay
16:51Well, she must have left him soon after that then
16:53Yeah, I think we should talk to Ellie again, ask her more about the incident
16:56You okay with that?
16:57Yeah, fine
16:58Good
16:59Just don't give it a fair degree this time
17:00I listened to the 999 tape from this morning
17:02The informant sounded pretty worked up
17:04It was a bit distorted, but she may have been trying to disguise her voice
17:07People don't want to get involved, do they?
17:09Still doesn't explain why she didn't call us when she first heard the screams out, does it?
17:19Matt, PC Hanson, PC Hemingway, we spoke to you earlier
17:22Yeah, I remember
17:24What do you want?
17:26Mr Hossam, a shopkeeper you had a dispute with, said you'd taken some items from his shop
17:30I want to get stuff from him, his stuff's rubbish
17:32Can I smell something burning?
17:34I'm trying to fix lunch
17:36I left something on
17:37Hi there
17:42It's all right, I just left the beans on, it's okay
17:47I don't think she should have that
17:49I'm watching them, all right?
17:51Yeah, but it's common sense, isn't it? You don't let kids play with knives
17:55Do you two want to go into the kitchen while I talk to your brother?
18:08Are your mum or dad around?
18:10Mum works, ain't got a dad
18:12How old are you?
18:1318
18:15So what?
18:16You working? You at college?
18:18That means I've done Nick's stuff, does it? You're saying I've done Nick's stuff!
18:20Don't you think you should put that away?
18:22Make sure it's out of their reach this time
18:26You've got to save the world again
18:28And I can't do that without you
18:30Joanne's really raffled when I spoke to her about the Sandborn Road DSS fraud case
18:34Both her and her agent John McGuire conveniently forgot to inform social services when the tenants moved out
18:39Cleaned off thousands of benefits
18:41So McGuire took the rap for her?
18:42Which means he's back on our list of suspects
18:44She reckons he relocated to Portugal when he was released
18:47I did that open source credit check you wanted on Joanne Marsden's company
18:50Loken Property Limited
18:52Some serious financial trouble
18:54It seems Miss Marsden has a major problem with their credit rating
18:56So that she could have a load of angry creditors on her table
18:59Don't feel you need to help, Zane
19:00Mickey and I are fine
19:01I've got a lead actually
19:02That's alright, just seemed a bit frazzled, that's all
19:04Anything else to check out?
19:05Well, Joanne lived at the house before Ellie did
19:07The rent is low cause she's selling out
19:09So those letters could have been meant for her?
19:11Possibly
19:12She was very defensive when I spoke to her about it
19:14When I left, she was trying to calm somebody down the phone
19:16Alright, let's have another look at those letters
19:22They're here somewhere
19:23You haven't lost them have you?
19:24Zane, go away!
19:26Move!
19:27What's her problem?
19:28I'm only trying to help
19:30Zane, do me a favour
19:32Erm, call the CPS and see if that freight checked out this afternoon
19:35Yeah, alright
19:36How's the revision going?
19:44I sort of file
19:46Been there, done there
19:48More or less lived to tell a tale
19:50I've been up since three trying to go through test papers
19:57I'll never do my sergeant's exams
20:00One second you're answering a question on pace
20:03The next it's all about wild animals
20:05I think my head is going to explode
20:09I know it's tough trying to juggle work in exams
20:12If you need any help with anything just give me a shout
20:15Yeah, that'd be great, thanks
20:18Hi
20:20Bingo
20:22Thanks
20:24It's my little girls, Katie and Charlie
20:28My ex-wife has gone off and left them
20:30Her neighbour just rang me
20:33Said their mum hasn't been there all over Christmas
20:35She's been gabbing on about going to Tenerife
20:37She's got this new boyfriend
20:39So how old are the girls, Mr Ojoani?
20:41They're seven and a half, they're twins
20:43And you think they're on the road?
20:44The neighbour said my ex has left her son looking after them
20:46But he's only fifteen
20:48And he's from a previous relationship?
20:50If you can call it that
20:52His dad pushed off as soon as he was born
20:54When I came on the scene he was really screwed up
20:56Karen, my ex, was dragging him around like he was a parcel
20:59So why can't you just go round there and check out the situation?
21:02Because she's turning her son against me
21:04When I was living there it wasn't so bad
21:06He loves the girls
21:08But when I left
21:10I don't know what Karen told him
21:12He seemed to have it in for me like I was the one who let them down
21:15How often do you have access?
21:17Every other weekend
21:18They're coming to me for New Year
21:20I feel sorry for that son of hers
21:22No wonder he's a bit loopy
21:24What's wrong with him?
21:26Hard to say
21:27As long as you don't cross him he's fine
21:29But if he gets upset
21:30He goes crazy
21:31It's like he can't help himself
21:33Okay, Mr. Adirani
21:35We'll take you round there now
21:37I'm gonna make a call
21:40No, I've got to go and fix their lunch
21:43They're gonna be starving by now
21:44What's in this basket?
21:45Just leave us alone, yeah?
21:47I told you not to do anything stupid
21:49And you didn't listen
21:50This is on the list of stolen things
21:52Oh
21:54And here's another one
21:56Look, I only took what was mine
21:57He wouldn't give me my money back
21:58Yeah, well the court's not gonna see it like that, are they?
22:00You've behaved like an idiot
22:01Don't call me that
22:02Oh, he
22:03Calm down
22:06Oh!
22:07Matt!
22:08Matt!
22:09Matt!
22:10Matt!
22:11Matt!
22:12Open the door!
22:14Mr. Rajwani, can you wait by the car please?
22:18Sorry
22:19Right, he's locked the door to the kitchen
22:21He's got the two girls in there
22:22He's not opening up
22:23I'll speak to Mr. Rajwani
22:24Find out if there's a back way in
22:26What happened to you?
22:28Just trying to calm him down
22:29Didn't work, did it?
22:30Look, I was actually assaulted here
22:32You know, it'd be nice to have a bit of support
22:34Look, according to the little girl's dad
22:35Matt's got some kind of mental health problem
22:37Okay, what happened?
22:38Right, well I tried to do a check
22:39He's no trace on PNC or Krimit
22:41No, he says he's 18
22:42No, he's not, he's 15
22:43Which will explain why nothing showed up
22:45Well, it seems like the problem hasn't been picked up on at all
22:47Well, how was I supposed to know?
22:49There's an alley along the back
22:51Look, I'll keep him talking, yeah?
22:58Matt!
22:59It's PC Hemingway
23:01Yvonne
23:03Look, if you just open the door
23:05We can sort things out
23:06What's happened?
23:07Please, Mr. Rajwani
23:08We are dealing with it, okay?
23:10Girls!
23:12Girls!
23:13Girls, it's all right
23:14Daddy's here
23:17It's all right, girls
23:20Oh, come on, Daddy's here
23:21I love you
23:24Matthew Ritchie, I'm arresting you for death
23:26Assault on a police officer
23:27You do not have to say anything
23:29But it may harm your offence
23:30If you do not mention it
23:31We're okay for you
23:32Something which you better rely on in court
23:33Anything you do say may be given in evidence
23:39They say they're only discharging you because they've got someone at home to take care of you
23:42Yeah, I'm picking up my stuff from the house and going back to Sean's
23:47We can give you a lift
23:49Thanks
23:52So, has Sean been in to see you?
23:55Yeah, he's being really nice
23:57He's taking time off to look after me
23:59I'm useless with this thing
24:01You called officers to Sean's house a few months ago, Ellie
24:04Saying that you were being held against your will
24:06Then you said it was all a misunderstanding
24:08Was that true?
24:10He was in a funny mood
24:12I was a bit scared, that's all
24:16I put his best glasses in the dishwasher
24:18I should have washed them up by hand
24:21We had a big row
24:22I yelled at him, told him I was off
24:26He locked all the doors, I panicked
24:28So, it's more mind games than anything physical?
24:31It's not anything, I was just being an idiot
24:34Look, I've got to go
24:36I think you're making a big mistake
24:37That's for me to decide
24:44I've just been thinking
24:46Do we know, did the building work on Ellie's house?
24:48That extension must have cost a fortune
24:50Maybe she didn't pay them either
24:52Could be a possibility, how the attacker got in
24:53Builders usually have a set of keys, don't they?
24:55Might be worth checking out
24:57Shall I give her office a ring, find out who did it?
24:59You talk to Joanne about her creditors
25:00And keep checking out that bloke that was done for the benefit fraud, McGrath
25:04I'll follow up the builder
25:05It might make sense why all the fixtures have been smashed up
25:08An angry builder trying to rip out all his work
25:10Yep, touch
25:19Sergeant Smith from Sunhill
25:21I'm looking for a Mr S Tranter
25:23My husband, not Ruth Tranter
25:25Well I was open to speak to Mr Tranter
25:26It's about some building work he did for a Miss Joanne Marsden
25:28I'm afraid that's not possible
25:30Really? Why's that?
25:32Stuart killed himself three months ago
25:34Three months and five days, to be exact
25:36I'm very sorry to hear that, Mrs Tranter
25:39Do you mind if I come in?
25:45I've got a lot to do, I'm clearing out the office
25:47Yeah, it must be hard having to do all this for yourself
25:53Seems so final
25:55I keep expecting him to walk in
25:59Did you work for your husband?
26:01I did the accounts
26:03He was useless with money, Stu
26:04He used to have papers and invoices anywhere
26:06He's anywhere
26:09Do you know the worst time?
26:11First thing in the morning
26:13You wake up and for a second you forget
26:15Then it all comes flooding back
26:17It must seem like a bad dream
26:22We were married for 22 years
26:23And I'm still as besotted as the day I met him
26:26Can't just be pheromones or whatever, can it?
26:29No, I suppose it can't
26:32So where did you come?
26:34I wanted to ask you about a house in River Mill Lane
26:37that your husband did up for Miss Marsden
26:39What about it?
26:41Did she pay him for the work that he did?
26:43Why should he be any different from the rest?
26:46She stopped paying everybody
26:48The trouble was for him, it was the straw that broke the camel's back
26:51Did he do work for her and her other properties?
26:53Yes, he did, but she didn't pay him
26:56She kept fobbing him off, till he went bust
26:59Have you seen Miss Marsden since your husband died?
27:01No
27:03Well, she sent flowers to the funeral
27:04This huge bouquet
27:06A woman called Ellie Peters was beaten up last night at 42 River Mill Lane
27:10She'd only moved in a couple of months ago
27:12Really?
27:14Threatening letters were sent to the house
27:16Telling the occupant that they knew what they had coming
27:19Miss Peters opened the mail, but it seems that they could have been meant for Miss Marsden
27:25And this could be a case of mistaken identity
27:28Well, Joanne upset a lot of people
27:31The FME says that you're fit for an interview and Kushal has agreed to sit in
27:39If that's alright with you
27:41Yeah, okay
27:43Okay
27:47Interview with Matthew Ritchie, time 13.25
27:49Those present
27:52Kushal Rajwani, PC's Hemingway, PC Harman, Matthew Ritchie has declined a solicitor
27:58Okay, Matt, do you want to tell me what happened in Mr Hassan's shop this morning?
28:02He saw me some Dad's stuff, then he wouldn't give me my money back
28:05So after myself and PC Johansson talked you about the problem, you went back, did you?
28:08I had to
28:10Why was that?
28:11I wanted something to give Kate and Charlie to make up for the dolls
28:14They were crying their eyes out when they broke
28:17So you admit that you stole the items?
28:19Yeah
28:21My mum left me some money before she went
28:24How much did she leave you?
28:2640 quid
28:28Look, I tried really hard, alright
28:30Christmas Day they had turkey crackers a lot
28:33They told me
28:35Where are they now?
28:36Her office is keeping an eye on them
28:40Probably wrecked the station, right?
28:43I didn't mean to scare them
28:45I know
28:47So when we came to the house to talk to you about the items that were stolen
28:50You assaulted PC Johansson causing her an injury to the face
28:53Can you explain why you did that?
28:55She was winding me up, she called me an idiot
28:57Said I was making a mess of looking after Kate and Charlie
29:00When did your mum leave, Matt?
29:01Right, a week before Christmas
29:07This bloke she'd met, booked all these tickets
29:12Didn't tell her and she couldn't get out of it
29:14It's never her fault, is it? Typical Karen
29:17No, she didn't want to go
29:18She's 33, Matt, a grown woman, no one was forcing her
29:20I wish she had a few drinks, she didn't know what she's doing
29:22You didn't think to phone your stepfather when your mum left?
29:24She said not to, he wouldn't want to know
29:26Another fat lie
29:27Okay
29:29Alright, Matt, we're going to need to speak to you again
29:31Once the FME have assessed PC Johansson's injuries
29:34Mr. Hassan has agreed to drop everything as long as the items are returned
29:38So you'll be bailed while the papers go to the CPS to be considered
29:42We'll, erm, wait for you, shall we?
29:46While they're doing their thing
29:48I don't know
29:49Well, I'll tell you one thing, we can't leave
29:51The girls aren't going to give me any peace until they see you
30:05There's still time, Ellie
30:07If you want to change your mind
30:08I'm fine, obviously
30:10Because they're in here somewhere
30:11If you're scared of Sean, there's no reason to go back to him
30:14I'm not scared of him
30:15Stay here, Ellie
30:21Hi
30:23How did you give in?
30:25Ellie gave me a spare set of keys when I saw her in the hospital
30:28That's right, yeah
30:29You shouldn't have let yourself in, Mr. Burrows, this is still a crime scene
30:32I'm so sorry, I didn't think
30:34Hello?
30:35Hi
30:39I need to go and pick up my stuff
30:40It's already in the car, I knew you wouldn't be up to it
30:43As soon as we get you home, the better, eh?
30:48I can't let her do this
30:50We pushed her too hard
30:52The more we slag him off, the more she'll defend him
30:55Sorry, I haven't got a degree in psychology
30:57What?
30:59What did you do with it?
31:01There we are
31:03What have you got?
31:04Oh, look, where did you find it?
31:08In the skit, huh?
31:10Thank you, boys
31:15The kids found this in the skit
31:17Could be Ellie's
31:18It's certainly been stamped on
31:20Let's check it out
31:21It'll be weeks before Sean's phone records come back
31:24He said he'd been ringing her mobile
31:26He might have left a few messages
31:31There you go
31:32You've got a son, Mrs Trenner?
31:44Ryan!
31:45Yes, look, I need to look up
31:47Any word for his dad?
31:49Not really, no
31:51Well, it says Trenner and son on the band
31:54Yes, Stuart did that for his 21st in July
31:58He wanted to encourage him, he'd start his helping out a bit
32:00Well, he must have been devastated when his dad died
32:04He was, yes
32:06Where's Ryan now?
32:08No idea, I'm afraid
32:09I'm afraid
32:13CRO's weapon 54
32:14Can I get a name check, please?
32:16It's Trenner, Ryan
32:1821-year-old male, IC1
32:19Quick as you can
32:21Come on in, Sarge
32:23You've got two pre-cons
32:25One of Frey, April 2002
32:28And a common assault, August 2004
32:30OK, erm, now get the CSE to run his name against the Prince we took in River Mill, right?
32:37Receive
32:39Mrs Trenner
32:41I need to talk to you about Ryan
32:43Where was he last night?
32:45At home
32:47Look, I can understand that you want to protect him
32:49Excuse me
32:51Excuse me
32:53Susie
32:57These must have been freaking her out
32:59Shows he must have sent her the letters too
33:01He wanted to scare the hell out of her
33:03These could give her a way out
33:05How?
33:06Means she's not the one to drop him in it
33:08He's done it all by himself
33:10OK
33:12Joanne Marsden received an urgent phone call
33:15They were asking her to go and meet someone
33:16I'm sure she gets urgent calls every day of the week
33:19Yeah, but she's supposed to be back by now for a meeting
33:21And now she's not answering her phone
33:2354 from Sierra Oscar
33:25The Prince have been identified as belonging to Ryan Transler
33:30I'm sorry, Ruth
33:32But we've ID'd Ryan as Ellie's attacker
33:34So you're gonna have to tell me everything that you know
33:37It's all I've got
33:39I know
33:41Oh, he was fine those first few months when he was helping his dad
33:45And then when Stuart died he just
33:47Oh, I can't do this
33:49I haven't let down
33:50Listen to me, this is serious now
33:52Now Joanne Marsden has gone missing
33:54And it looks like your son has got her
33:56Now you can help stop this
33:59He's punishing Joanne, isn't he?
34:02He blames her for his father's suicide
34:03When I went into Ryan's room this morning to get him moving
34:14He said he'd been to River Mill Lane and taught her a lesson
34:18I didn't know how badly she'd been hurt
34:20So you dug 999 and said that you heard screams?
34:24I felt sick
34:26I thought, what if she dies?
34:28And then I rang Joanne's work to see if they'd heard of the attack
34:30And Joanne answered the phone
34:32Then what?
34:34Well, when I told Ryan
34:36He got worked up again
34:38He said that it was Joanne's fault that he'd beaten up Ellie
34:42Well, we need to go and find them and we need to find them now
34:46Before this gets any worse, come on
34:49How did your husband commit suicide?
34:52He drowned himself
34:54Where?
34:56He jumped from the bridge near Jubilee Wolf
34:58Hang on
35:11Anything?
35:13Come on
35:15Come on
35:17Right, keep her here
35:18Please!
35:20We need an ambulance urchin
35:21Leave Jubilee Wolf
35:34Look!
35:36Just look!
35:38Ryan!
35:40Stay back!
35:42Okay, look
35:44I'm Sergeant Smith from Sunhill
35:46I'd really like you to let go of Joanne for me
35:49I need to teach you a lesson!
35:52I think you've already done that
35:54I've only just stayed!
35:56Yeah
35:58Okay, Joanne, we're gonna get you out of here soon as we can
36:01He called me, he said he wanted to talk, I didn't know what to do
36:04I didn't know what to do
36:06Stay back!
36:07Okay?
36:08I wanted her to know what it was like
36:11To stand here and know
36:13What it was like for your dad?
36:15My dad, yeah!
36:17She made him do it!
36:20I want her to know how it felt
36:24I want her to watch!
36:26Ryan!
36:27Look at her!
36:28Look at her!
36:30Don't you think you've punished her enough?
36:34He was my best mate!
36:37And I let him down!
36:40He didn't give up on me though!
36:45He never gave up!
36:48And she took him away!
36:51I wanted to know what she did!
36:54She does!
36:56But she'll forget!
36:59I'm doing this for my dad!
37:02And then she'll remember them, won't she?
37:06She won't do it again!
37:08Ryan, please!
37:10Oh, shut up!
37:12Ryan!
37:14Look, you can't do this to your mum, Ryan, it'll kill her!
37:16She'll be better off!
37:18I'm trouble!
37:20I've always been trouble!
37:23Look!
37:25You're all she's got!
37:27She said that you were great when you worked with your dad for those few months
37:30You were a totally different person!
37:34It don't matter now, does it?
37:36Look, your dad said that he saw himself in you!
37:38I mean, that's what he told your mum!
37:39I wish you'd have told me!
37:45But we don't tell each other things, do we?
37:47Not until it's too late!
37:51So what do you say?
37:53Hey, Ryan?
37:57Why don't we get down?
38:00Are you watching?
38:02No!
38:05Just get off me!
38:07Let go!
38:08Let go!
38:10Please!
38:11I wanna go!
38:14Get out of me!
38:15Get out of me!
38:16Get out of me!
38:18It's you, mate!
38:21I just wanna die!
38:23Do you hear me?!
38:24You okay, Sarge?
38:26Yeah.
38:29I wanna die!
38:31You should've let me!
38:34Get him out of here!
38:36Get up!
38:39How's the eye?
38:40Look, before you started, it wasn't my fault!
38:41Now, where have I heard that before?
38:42Yesterday springs to mind!
38:43The kid had a mental problem!
38:44Which you didn't pick up on!
38:45Well, I can smell something burning and Yvonne was just standing there, so...
38:46I am not interested!
38:47Why should I take all the rap?
38:48It's not fair!
38:49Sit down!
38:50Sit down!
38:51Sit down!
38:52Sit down!
38:53I have had enough of you bad-mouthing colleagues who give you their support, even when you don't
38:56deserve it!
38:57What I don't deserve is you!
38:58Go on!
38:59Well, I tried to help you when you were ill!
39:00Well, I tried to help you when you were ill!
39:01I was always covering for you!
39:02And all I get is this!
39:03You know, I'd hate to be like you, to be honest!
39:04Spend my whole life in the job!
39:05It seems all you ever think about!
39:06When I started, that's what it was about!
39:07You were in it for the long haul!
39:08Not flitting about!
39:09You obviously had different expectations!
39:10Well, I wanted some excitement!
39:11Not just a lot of hard graft and abuse!
39:12I don't know!
39:13I've had enough of you bad-mouthing colleagues who give you their support!
39:15Even when you don't deserve it!
39:16What I don't deserve is you!
39:17Go on!
39:18Well, I tried to help you when you were ill!
39:19I was always covering for you!
39:20And all I get is this!
39:21Do you know, I'd hate to be like you, to be honest!
39:23Spend my whole life in the job!
39:25It seems all you ever think about!
39:27When I started, that's what it was about!
39:30You were in it for the long haul!
39:31Not flitting about!
39:32You obviously had different expectations!
39:36Abuse!
39:37So it's all been a bit of a let down, has it?
39:38Yeah, it has!
39:39Yeah!
39:40Big time!
39:41I'm not taking it anymore!
39:42Oh, right!

39:54I'll have your warrant card, please!
39:56Oh, by the way!
39:59Just in case you're interested, it was Mr Rajwani who called me, expressing concern about
40:05your handling of the incident.

40:14It is, yeah!
40:15Where was it?
40:16Dumped in a skip outside the house!
40:17We've accessed the texts you received!
40:18He didn't mean all that stuff!
40:19You guessed that he made the silent phone calls too, didn't you?

40:21He won't let me talk into you!
40:23Ellie, we can help you!

40:56We need each other!
40:58I can't do it to him again!
40:59But it's not you doing it to him, is it?
41:01He's the one who dropped himself in it by sending you those texts!
41:05You've got a get-out card here, Ellie!
41:08If you want to use it!
41:11What's going on?
41:12We've arrested Ellie's attacker!
41:15And we found her mobile!
41:17It is actually an offence to send malicious communications, Mr Burrows!
41:21What have you done now?
41:23Not me, Sean.
41:24You!
41:26Okay, Ellie, we'd like you to come down to the station to make a statement regarding your attack.
41:30Is that okay?
41:31Yeah, fine.
41:33I'll, um, I'll come and collect you.
41:35No, thanks.
41:36I'll find my own way home.
41:42Sean Burrows,
41:43I'm arresting you for sending malicious communications.
41:48Amber?
41:51Are you okay?
41:53What do you think?
41:56Didn't expect to go and give you a hard time.
41:59She did, yeah.
42:01I told her I wanted out.
42:03And what did she say?
42:04What did she say?
42:07She told me to get my things and leave.
42:11All right.
42:13Well, look, maybe if you go and see...
42:14No, it's okay.
42:16I would have done it soon anyway.
42:19She's right.
42:20I'm useless at this job and I always will be.
42:24You had a bad run.
42:26Yeah.
42:27Since the day I joined.
42:30You know, one minute I'm okay and I get a buzz out of connecting with people.
42:34And then something goes wrong, like with Matt, and I just can't be bothered anymore.
42:37I'll tell you more.
42:39You know, not everyone's cut out to be a police officer.
42:42Well, you are.
42:44You always pick up on the signals, make the right call.
42:47I'm always too busy just looking around for cute guys and stuff.
42:51You're making me sound boring.
42:54Yeah, well, you're not.
42:57You're a great cop, Yvonne.
43:01Oh, come on.
43:02We'll get another job.
43:05I need one pretty sharp to state my finances.
43:10Do you know what, Yvonne?
43:13You're the one person I'm going to miss around this place.
43:20How do I look?
43:29Fantastic.
43:31As usual.
43:37Amber.
43:40Keep in touch.
43:51I need a hot shower.
43:53Can I come in?
44:03You better have a hot drink. You look wrecked.
44:05You can't even smell any aftershave.
44:07Careful.
44:09Do you take sugar?
44:11Yeah, mine.
44:14I can't believe we don't know stupid little things like that about each other when we know so much else.
44:17Hmm.
44:21You're going to be in more danger if I come with you.
44:25That's for me to decide though, isn't it?
44:27If anything happened to you because of me, I'd never forgive myself.
44:30What if you didn't testify against Pete and we just, we just ran away right now?
44:44The CPS said the case against him would collapse.
44:47He'd get out of prison.
44:49And we can't let that happen.
44:51He's too dangerous.
44:53So, how long till we give your statement that drops Pete in it?
44:57Three weeks.
45:01Then that's what we've got.
45:04We're going to concentrate on now.
45:06We're going to make sure that we make the most out of every second that we've got left to go.
45:12So...
45:16Let's for, er...
45:18Let's forget about the tea.
45:21And, erm...
45:23How do you feel about that shower?
45:24Next time, on the bill...
45:38Meadows is well bent.
45:40Before they stick me on the ground, I'm going to have him.
45:42Benjamin ran off the rails for the same reason you lost me.
45:45Because you always put this place first.
45:47It's Vincent Parker.
45:49He's talking to the DPS.
45:51Looks like he's come back to haunt us.
45:54Kinda as well.
45:57But.
46:04That is Welcome!
46:07Candy Un nenhum's What it means to be able to get out of prison.
