00:00Hello, yes, today I went to Battersea Power Station to visit a new electric vehicle car shop.
00:08Renault, the motorsport and car company, have opened to talk all things EV and why London is leading the race for electric vehicles.
00:18Now, research reveals that 80% of drivers in the capital are likely to switch to an EV within the next two years.
00:26A striking contrast to the UK-wide average of 55%.
00:33Financial incentives appear to be a major factor behind this new momentum.
00:39More than half of Londoners, around 54%, say that the government's electric car grant scheme makes them more likely to go electric compared with just 35% of drivers nationwide.
00:53So, what impact is this really having?
01:00You know, I'm a proper petrol head, always have been.
01:05But, you know, three, four years ago, Fifth Gear, the TV show I was working on, they decided, look, we've got to embrace this electric revolution.
01:17And if I'm totally honest, I didn't get them until I actually got in them and experienced them myself.
01:27And, you know, there's no denying that they've got to be, particularly in, you know, a city like London or any big city in the UK.
01:37There is a need for, there is an absolute need for, you know, to clean up the air and all that sort of good stuff.
01:43The age demographic that are really looking at these products now is getting younger and younger.
01:54I mean, I've got two girls, one's just turned 17, the other's 16 very soon.
01:59I mean, they want electric cars, they don't want big V8s, you know, the world is a changing place.
02:07You know, the object is to spread the word that not only are they good for the environment and all those good things and their lower emissions or, you know, there's no emissions.
02:19They're also fun and they're quirky and they're sporty, you know, we've got to do our bit, you know, we can't, you know, you know, just drive around, you know, drive me into London three, four years ago and see the difference.
02:35You know, it's made a big difference to people that live here.
02:39I don't, I live in the countryside, but even in the country, we're seeing more and more electric vehicles coming along.
02:46I think there's, I think there's room for both, actually, for both internal combustion and electric.
02:53If I lived in a city like London, I would drive an electric car, for sure.
