00:00Centro Asia, historically a vital bridge between East and West.
00:08Today, Uzbekistan is reclaiming its place as a strategic connector in the region
00:12through rapidly expanding transport and logistics networks.
00:17Hello and welcome to Business Line Uzbekistan.
00:20A landlocked country, in the heart of Central Asia,
00:23Uzbekistan is investing heavily to transform its transport sector.
00:27Over the past 30 years, productivity in the industry has tripled.
00:32Yet, it still trails the Asia-Pacific average, presenting both a challenge and an opportunity.
00:38As of January 1, 2022, the length of public highways in Uzbekistan was more than 42,000 kilometers,
00:47including about 4,000 kilometers of highways of international importance.
00:52The railway network spans over 7,000 kilometers and handled more than 51 million tons of cargo
01:00in just the first half of 2025.
01:04The World Bank forecast is that, by 2030, Uzbekistan's transit capacity will grow almost four and half times,
01:11and investments in the transport sector will reach about 54 billion euros.
01:16The country is working to become a regional transport and logistics hub,
01:21improving mobility, efficiency, and access for millions of people and businesses across Central Asia and beyond.
01:29Here's more.
01:31With a population of nearly 40 million and no direct access to the sea,
01:36Uzbekistan has invested in infrastructure and international transport initiatives.
01:40One of them is the Qasq Plus Corridor.
01:42We have been through the U.S. and the U.S. and the U.S. and the U.S. and the U.S. and the U.S. and the U.S. government.
02:01Air connectivity is also part of the strategy.
02:05Tashkent International Airport has become a regional hub, serving more than 50 airlines.
02:11Passenger traffic reached 8.7 million in 2024, up 28% from the previous year.
02:18A new cargo terminal with an annual handling capacity of 120,000 tons was opened in 2025.
02:26Plans already underway for a second phase that will add an advanced 8,300 square meters cargo handling facility.
02:36More than 60,000 tons of cargo were handled in just the first eight months of 2025.
02:44Rail transport remains central to Uzbekistan's vision of regional integration.
02:48Already 70% of the country's railway network is electrified, with plans to increase said to 85% by 2030.
02:57In 2026, we plan to increase the transport of passengers with a high-speed transport in 2,5 times.
03:07From 2027 to 2028, we plan to bring our passengers to 20 million people from 11 of the present today.
03:16Whether these projects will transform the country's geography into an advantage depends on how effectively they can be implemented
03:25and how regional cooperation holds up in a complex political landscape.
03:30Joining us now is Jasurbek Choryev, Deputy Minister of Transport.
03:35Mr. Choryev, currently several transport corridor projects are being implemented across Uzbekistan.
03:41How these projects can help the country to become stronger player in international logistics?
03:47I'm sorry for that.
04:17Grazie a tutti.
04:47Well, that's all we have for this edition.
