00:01Selangor ruler Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah stressed that the redevelopment of land in Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur should prioritize the interests of the Malay community given the historical significance of the area.
00:14He said while he had no objection to the redevelopment of the Kampung Sungai Baru area, it had to be handled carefully and prudently with the conditions for redevelopment to be made clear and in favor of the Malays.
00:26Sultan Sharifuddin highlighted that Kampung Baru, established in 1899 and gazetted in 1900 as a Malay settlement for agricultural purposes, has long been a symbol of Malay awakening.
00:39He recalled its importance as the site of the Sultan Sulaiman Club, where the 1946 Malay Congress leading to Amno's formation was held, and as a refuge for Malays during the May 13, 1969 riots.
00:51He stressed that Kampung Baru remains central to Malay's survival and dignity, and any redevelopment must safeguard Malay interests for the long term.
