00:01Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged all parties against speculating
00:06on the top judicial appointments to be made soon.
00:09The Sultan said the main items on the agenda for the 269th Conference of Rulers meeting
00:14included negotiating the appointment of the new Chief Justice, Court of Appeal President,
00:19Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as other Superior Court judges.
00:24He voiced his support for Istana Nagara's statement last week, reiterating that the
00:28Constitution provides for the King to make appointments to these key roles in the judiciary
00:32on the advice of the Prime Minister and after consulting the rulers.
00:37He said the process that has been provided for under the Federal Constitution must be carried
00:41out transparently and carefully to preserve the rule of law and uphold the principle of justice.
00:47The government came under criticism over delays in the appointment of senior judges following
00:52the retirement of the Chief Justice and Court of Appeal President and impending vacancies in
00:57the Superior Courts.
00:59Chief Judge of Malaya Hasna Hashim is serving as Acting Chief Justice following the retirement
01:04of Tengkuma and Winpuan Mat, while Federal Court Judge Zavaria Yusuf became Acting Court of
01:08the President after Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim retired.
01:12Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Abdul Rahman Sebli, is set to retire this month.
