00:00Pets have been welcomed in cabins for years overseas.
00:03There is no reason why it's not going to do just as well here in Australia.
00:07Virgin Australia has made history as the first Aussie airline to allow pets in the cabin
00:12for $149 per trip.
00:15Strict rules apply, with pets limited to under 8kg including their carrier
00:20and confined to approved seating zones.
00:23It's going to be small dogs and cats up to 8kg including the carrier.
00:27So you can see I've got little Polly here.
00:29She weighs 4kg including the carrier.
00:32So it's going to be little dog breeds like toy poodles, papillons, chihuahuas,
00:37the very small cavoodles and small cats.
00:40The buffer zone is two rows in front of and two rows behind where the pets are located.
00:45So those with allergies, our recommendation is that they don't sit within that space.
00:49Only four animals are permitted on each flight
00:52and some breeds or older pets will require veterinary clearance.
00:56The service will run until the 30th of January 2026
01:00before expanding across Virgin's domestic network next year.
01:04Chief Executive Dave Emerson said the move responds to overwhelming demand from pet owners
01:10and brings Australia in line with international carriers that already allow pets on board.
01:15We are thrilled to welcome pets on board Virgin Australia domestic flight.
01:19So say goodbye to boarding kennels and pet seated.
01:22And say hello to family holidays with every family member.
