00:00Hello everyone, in this short video I will show you how to excavate a building footprint in a
00:06terrain model in Rhino. The topographic surface and the buildings you see on my screen come from
00:11TopoExport. If you want to add the same type of file, you can download it from topoexport.com.
00:17The link is in the description. So let's get started. First, I right-click on the Buildings
00:23layer and choose Select Objects. Next, type the command Mesh to NURPS. The NURPS surface are now
00:31created. Both the mesh and the NURPS are still overlapping. So I delete the mesh by pressing
00:38Delete on my keyboard. Now I will select all the buildings again and type the command Merge all
00:45Coplaner faces. And there we go, the buildings are now registered as closed poly surfaces. Next,
00:52I will do the same with the ground. I select the round, type the command Mesh to NURPS. Delete the mesh
01:01and then I type Mesh all Coplaner faces.
01:11It's really important to duplicate the building you want to excavate. So I will move my building
01:1750 meters up. Then I tap the command Boolean Difference. First, I select the terrain polysurface
01:25and press Enter. Next, I select the building I want to excavate and press Enter again.
01:33And there we go. As you can see, the building footprint has been correctly cut out of the terrain
01:38polysurface. I can now move the building back down to sit perfectly on the ground.
01:44Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more grinding tutorials.
