Commanders Tight End John Bates explains his mentality when blocking.
Transcript
00:00John, people that look at you, they talk a lot about how you block, you're blocking, and Dennis Rodman in basketball, all he cared about, rebounds, rebounds, rebounds.
00:09What is, what in your mindset makes you be so happy about going out there and blocking as well as you do?
00:15Yeah, obviously I take a tremendous amount of pride in it, but I think, obviously it's not something that necessarily shows up on the stat sheet.
00:25But I think as a true football player and people who are in the building and understand how offenses go and how this whole team thing works,
00:37I think a lot of people see what big of a deal it is for someone to go in there and block the way that the O-line and I do and help our team out.
00:47And so I think it's just kind of one of those things that maybe not very many people from the outside looking and appreciate,
00:52but I know it's well appreciated inside the building.
00:56When you get that contract extension, it tells you it's well appreciated, right?
01:00Hell yeah.
01:01Yeah, no, definitely.
01:04That was a super exciting process for me.
01:06And to be able to come back here and just kind of go through all the ups and downs that this organization has been through in my time here.
01:14And it was important for me and my family to, you know, try to find a way to end up back here.
01:20And so, no, it was really cool.
01:22Appreciate everything that they've done for me and my family.
