00:00Nobody's actually doing a morning shed. You've been duped. You might have seen these types of
00:05get ready with me videos around TikTok where the people in them look like burn victims. So a morning
00:10shed is basically when you peel off all of this like skincare stuff and technology and stickers
00:15and everything that you supposedly slept in and it's supposed to make you look better, younger,
00:20hotter. They've got tape over their mouths, their jaws are wrapped up in what look like bandages,
00:25all in the name of beauty. One of these videos by a man named Ashton Hall became Twitter's meme of the
00:31week. He wakes up at the very specific time of 3 52 a.m and then spends his morning at seemingly
00:37random intervals going out on his balcony, drinking water, dunking his face in an ice bath,
00:42journaling it looks like he's on the first page of his journal, and then sitting down in front of
00:47his laptop at 9 a.m. It's hilariously unrealistic and maybe unknowingly tips its hat to how phony
00:53these videos are. Also, a woman with no face serves him breakfast. You mean you're waking
00:58up at 3 52 a.m and not even making your own breakfast? This video and ones like it are
01:03generated to look ridiculous. They're there for attention and engagement bait, not actual beauty
01:08advice. But that might be even more harmful in the long run as young viewers might not be able
01:12to differentiate it from reality. But I'd also like to point out that the video made by Ashton Hall was
01:17immediately clowned and not taken seriously, while these types of routines made by women are treated with
01:23a different level of seriousness. We expect women to have over-the-top beauty routines. We've been
01:28doing it for centuries. But when a man does the same thing, he's an instant laughing stock. He's
01:33showing us how stupid this all is no matter what gender you are. And these types of 4 plus hour beauty
01:39routines are not accessible to most people. They're mainly accessible to influencers. But they're not meant
01:45for the average joe. They're meant to generate attention from the average joe so they can turn their views
01:50into sponsorship deals. But at a certain point, it stops being engagement bait and starts being
01:55subliminal messaging, especially for those of us who are too young to know the difference between
01:59reality and TikTok. So if you're watching these videos for entertainment, great, so am I. But if
02:04you're watching these videos and feeling bad about yourself that you don't do this every morning,
02:07please relieve yourself of that burden. In my book, if you have time to drink a coffee before you go to work,
02:13it's a good day.
