One person has died and seven others including police officers have received medical treatment after a gas leak at a restaurant in Sydney.

00:00Well, it's been a tragic scene here at Riverstone in the city's west this morning, emergency
00:05services responding to initial calls for welfare, concerns of welfare at an Indian restaurant
00:12here in Riverstone and it wasn't until police officers arrived and started to treat and
00:18provide CPR to a 25 year old male that they started to feel dizzy themselves.
00:24They were then taken out of the restaurant by Fire and Rescue NSW and taken to hospital
00:29as a result of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
00:33We now can confirm that a 25 year old has died and the others that were taken to hospital
00:40remain in hospital in a stable condition and they were the five police officers that first
00:45initially responded to this welfare call out and the father and son who run this restaurant.
00:52At a press conference this afternoon here's what the assistant commissioner had to say.
00:57The owner and the owner's son had located the 25 year old male, subsequently rang police,
01:04they subsequently attempted CPR themselves.
01:07Police have responded and commenced the CPR process.
01:10Now during that CPR process again they became exposed in some respects to the odour, the environment
01:17that was in the restaurant.
01:18They removed the deceased, continued the CPR to the point where we're at now.
01:22Fire and Rescue NSW will continue their investigations to get to the bottom of what exactly caused
01:28this gas leak and they're not ruling out anything as they continue to search through the property
01:33and find where that leak came from and how it became so deadly.
