Oregon Ducks Coach Dan Lanning addresses how people could learn from the ducks locker room
Transcript
00:00You know, I think the U.S. could learn a lot from our locker room.
00:08I think the people in this world can learn a lot from our locker room.
00:10You walk in that locker room, you've got guys of different races,
00:12guys of different backgrounds, different religions,
00:16and you've got a team that loves each other.
00:18Like, tons of differences, tons of differences,
00:20where they come from, what they deal with,
00:22and ultimately you've got a team that loves each other.
00:25And I think we're missing some of that in our country.
00:27You know, you talk about how you recently found out, like, Charlie Kirk was an Oregon fan, right?
00:32I didn't know that.
00:34I heard for his wife Erica and their kids.
00:36Like, that sort of evil should never exist in our country, and that's what it is.
00:40It's evil.
00:40Like, I remember having to explain that to my family, right?
00:44I remember sitting down with my kids and explaining what happened,
00:46and they were talking about people talking about it at school, and it's just sad, right?
00:49But it's just as sad.
00:50You know, every day it seems like we deal with some sort of violence that's going on in our country,
00:54whether it's, you know, school kids in Colorado or kids in Minnesota at churches.
00:59I mean, life matters, you know?
01:02And I think we've lost sight of that, but I just wish the world could learn a little bit of something from our locker room
01:08because we've got a bunch of people with differences,
01:10and what you've got in there is a bunch of people that love there.
01:12And there's some people that will be disappointed about how much I said about this, right?
01:17And there will be some people that are disappointed that I didn't say enough, right?
01:20And I really don't care, right?
01:22What I do care about is if you disagree with me, if you hate me, if you don't like me, just know this, I love you.
01:27I absolutely love you, right?
01:30And life matters.
01:31And that's no way that Charlie should have experienced that, his family should have experienced that.
01:36There's no way that that evil should exist in this world,
01:39and we have to continue to identify and point it out and make sure that it's absolutely evil.
01:43There's no reason in the world that our kids, we should be worried about sending our kids to school.
01:48It's our most valuable commodity in the world.
01:50They should be protected, and the reality is there's just not a lot of common sense on both sides.
01:55Like, common sense says, oh, it's mental health, right?
01:58Common sense says, oh, it's guns.
01:59You know what?
02:00It's both.
02:01Like, let's have some common sense.
02:02Our kids should be the most protected thing in the world, right?
02:05They should have armed guards at every school because there's sick people.
02:09There's sick people in this world, right?
02:11And on top of that, sick people need help, and it should be really hard for a sick person to have a gun.
02:16It should be really hard, right?
02:18And if people can't see that from both sides, how disappointing is that?
02:21But I just know, like, when you see moments like that that exist right now in our country,
02:25like, I just think about my kids.
02:26And I hope, I remember I saw that video.
02:28It was disgusting.
02:30And I just told them, like, man, I hope my kids don't see that video.
02:33Like, how much does that suck?
02:34I hope Charlie's kids never see that video.
02:37Like, disgusting, right?
02:39And we glorify it.
02:42We praise it.
02:44You know, people are Internet warriors, and those are sick people.
02:47And at some point, we need to go look at sports because what our football team has is it has people on both sides of the fence, right?
02:55And there's fans that love our team that have a lot of differing opinions.
02:58And the truth is there's a lot of things Charlie said that I did not agree with at all.
03:02There's a lot of things he said that I did agree with.
03:04But what's disappointing is I can respect those differences.
03:07And somebody else couldn't.
03:09And they thought that they deserved to be God in that moment, and they didn't, right?
03:13And nobody should have to experience that.
03:15So, yeah, I got a lot of disappointment.
03:16We had a Bible study with our team.
03:19We talked about it with our team, and I think our team feels the same way.
03:22Regardless of views, I don't think they feel anybody ever deserves to experience what some people in our country are experiencing right now.
03:29It's super disappointing.
03:34It's super disappointing.
03:38I gotta guess.
