New York Fashion Week opened with a vibrant burst of color and creativity as an eclectic mix of celebrities, style icons, and fashion insiders gathered at the Elizabeth Street Garden to celebrate Libertine's Spring 2026 runway show. Among the notable guests lighting up the front row were lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart, pop icon Cyndi Lauper, avant-garde designer Thom Browne, model and DJ Theodora Richards, and actress Christina Hendricks. Johnson Hartig, the founder and creative director of Libertine once again proved his masterful ability to blur the boundaries between fashion, art, and cultural commentary. Speaking backstage, Hartig shared that the inspiration for his Spring 2026 collection was as expansive as it was personal--drawing from his passions from gardening to politics. However, the focus of the line is rooted in the idea of a love revolution -- a call to reclaim humanity, joy, and honesty in the face of darkness. The runway echoed that sentiment with models strutting down the grassy aisles wearing hand-printed linens, vivid florals across tailored jackets, and lightweight separates in psychedelic hues. Hartig's fascination with history took shape in the form of garments inspired by 19th-century North African Zouave soldiers--a nod to their reputation as some of the most elegantly dressed military figures in history.
