00:00So Russia wants to ban Shrek. Seriously. No matter how bad things get, there's
00:05always one thing you can do to lift your spirits, and that is sit down and watch
00:08the beloved animated comedy classic, Shrek. Well, not anymore. Not for the Russians.
00:13Apparently, everyone's favorite ogre has found himself in the crosshairs of the
00:17Kremlin. He was featured in a presentation by the State Duma as an
00:21example of a negative Western character with both physical and personality flaws.
00:25Come on, Russia. That's what the whole movie was about. Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have
00:33layers. Onions have layers. You get it. We both have layers. You'd think with the amount of onions
00:39present in Russian cuisine, they'd have a little bit more understanding, but...
00:42According to politician Sergei Mironov, characters like Shrek, The Grinch, and Monsters
00:47Inc employee Mike Wazowski are all part of a Western society that's very actively
00:51engaged in indoctrinating our children. Wait a minute. Shrek, Mike Wazowski, The Grinch?
00:55Is this a green guy thing? He accused the West of waging a hybrid war against Russia and warned
01:01that governments opposed to Moscow are following the adage, if you want to defeat the enemy,
01:05raise their children. Or, you know, show them Shrek, I guess. Now, The Grinch, sure, he's not a good
01:11guy, especially before his heart grew three sizes that day. But our sweet, innocent Shrek,
01:16he's just trying to live a simple life in his swamp. He's a recluse, not hurting anybody. And then,
01:21once married to Fiona, he had three children, Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia, which would seem
01:26to align with the Kremlin's stated mission of increasing Russia's birth rate. In fairness,
01:31the movies do strongly suggest that a donkey is gonna f*** a dragon, which obviously goes
01:35against traditional family values. Hey, there's no wrong way to make a family. Either way,
01:39in the grand scale of Russian persecution, the censorship of Shrek is a small development.
01:44Who knows? This might be the straw that breaks the donkey's back. The donkey dragon's back.
01:48Someone's back.
