01:02This is Scared by Squares by the developers ClickU Games and it hasn't had a full release just yet.

01:09The first level is free to download and play.

01:12One of the things I love about VR is its ability to make you wrong.

01:16And I'll be honest, when the guys emailed me and asked me to take a look at this game,

01:20I kind of laughed to myself and thought, there's no way this will be any good.

01:24Two weeks later, I finally installed it and gave it a go.

01:27And boy, I couldn't have been more wrong.

01:30Straight away when you load in, you will notice how great the game looks.

01:33You know how sometimes as a game loads up, you just know it's going to be good.

01:37Well, that was the first sign of maybe I was completely wrong.

01:40Then I loaded into the home base and I knew then that this actually might be something special.

01:46I love the designs of everything.

01:48The base looks great.

01:49The suit you wear looks fantastic.

01:51The menu screens look good.

01:53So you are basically playing a prisoner who's been sentenced to life.

01:57And for a chance to earn your freedom, you are being sent into this giant cube,

02:01which is a digital prison made up of cubes that hold a shape-shifting entity that cannot be killed.

02:07There are no other shapes in this prison, so the entity cannot mimic them.

02:11But now the prison is collapsing and the shape entity is corrupting the squares,

02:15turning them into triangles and circles.

02:18And if it forms too many, the cube will collapse and the entity will regain its power to create havoc on the world again.

02:24So right now, you can download the demo for free and play the entire first level, which is named Floor 1.

02:30Then when it's released to early access, there will be a further two levels,

02:34Floor 2, Part 1, and Floor 2, Part 2.

02:36As far as size goes, it's quite big and is absolutely beautifully designed.

02:41Now I will warn you, this game does have jump scares.

02:44So if you scare easily, this might not be for you.

02:47The soundtrack does an excellent job in creating a great and creepy atmosphere.

02:52The first level took me around 30 minutes to complete,

02:55not including the first 10 minutes I spent trying to solve the first puzzle.

02:59Inside the cube, they use the light and dark just perfectly.

03:02And you also have a torch on your right arm that you can look around with.

03:05You're going to face drops, cubes that follow you, cubes that fall away beneath your feet,

03:11gaps that you will need to jump on a series of cubes to cross,

03:14cubes that make up long lines and spin around that you have to avoid,

03:18cubes that travel from left to right and vice versa to knock you.

03:21And then there are a few puzzles thrown in for good measure.

03:24I honestly can't believe how well this game works and the atmosphere it's created.

03:29Something that won't carry well on a 2D screen.

03:32You really need to see it in VR.

03:34So go get it now.

03:38I never encountered any bugs or crashing.

03:41The game worked perfectly.

03:42The controls are very simple to learn.

03:45Just basically walking, use your pointer on your right arm, your torch and then jump.

03:50There doesn't seem to be any game menus currently, unless I missed them.

03:53But I don't think I did.

03:55So what's coming in the future in this game?

03:57Well, they have mentioned a multiplayer co-op mode

04:00and that they will be adding more flaws and surprises on each of them.

04:03Then it looks like there will be choices of your suits and then a hunt mode.

04:07I don't actually care too much for the multiplayer aspect of it.

04:10A game always needs a strong campaign mode before anything else.

04:14And this first level is a very strong start.

04:17So some things I'd like to see added are

04:19obviously way more levels.

04:21Maybe a giant maze level.

04:23And did you ever see those films called The Cube?

04:26Well, maybe a floor dedicated to games like that would be really cool.

04:29If you haven't seen the films, then go check them out.

04:31Also, maybe a hide and seek type floor.

04:34But to be honest, I think these guys have it covered.
