One hundred years ago the Federation Galactica fell in a great calamity. The sentient races of the galaxy parted ways, and petty warlords took control of the great hyperspace gates. Now your world is dying. Invaders from the Outer Rim have devastated the last of the frontier outposts. You must find the last survivors of Fleet Command and liberate your sector.
MOTION CONTROLS Rogue Stargun features the most immersive virtual cockpit ever developed, with virtual hands for interacting with cockpit controls such as the flight stick, targeting system, reactor core, and even swappable weapons.
SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN With over 24 missions, you will be flying through some of the most varied environments yet seen in a VR-first starfighter sim. Zip through canyons to take down enemy missile batteries, fly under the shields of enemy capital ships to take down their guns, bomb enemy mechanized ground walkers on an icy world, perform a daring raid on a space pirate den -- the variety is endless.
UNIQUE STARFIGHTERS Do you go with the slow but heavily armored Tornado with its adjustable bombing sight and rear turret or the fast but lightly armored Meteor with its twin flak cannons and secret "rear fuel dump blaster"? There are 5 unique ships in this game, each with their own surprises. Each fighter is additionally equipped with a secondary swappable weapon, with over 50 such unique weapons that can be picked up from powerups, making every single playthrough a unique experience!
00:26This is Rogue Stargun by the developer Do Games and it was released on the 1st of February 2024.
00:40So firstly, let's mention, as I always do, if I know, this is by a solo developer.
00:45I noticed that he hadn't pushed any of the updates out in a while, so I contacted him to find out if this was a game he was still working on.
00:52He messaged me back within a day with,
00:55I just had a child and started a new job in AI engineering.
00:58No longer do I have a nighttime office to work on the game, but I hope to push updates relating to revisiting the audio dialogue and music by February.
01:07So it's not abandoned, it's just a question of life and time.
01:11About the game, pilot your ship and get thrown into space battles or battles down on planets.
01:17Maybe you have to take down enemy defenses or clear the path of enemies so the fleet can move through safely.
01:23Or maybe you have to defend a city from attacks and shoot down bombers or waves of fighter ships.
01:28Levels and Size
01:30The game boasts 24 levels, but you are going to struggle just after 3.
01:35I only knew how to pass it because I emailed the developer and he told me,
01:39The levels are just too hard. I'm currently stuck on level 5.
01:43Either you need better weapons or more health or enemies to be easier.
01:47I wish I could see more of the game, but I'm just stuck.
01:50But the 5 levels I've seen so far are of decent size.
01:53The story laid out before and during each mission is good and keeps you engaged.
01:57Enemies and Bosses
01:59Enemies and Friendlies need to be an obvious different colour from one another.
02:03As many times I have been destroying my own ships.
02:06Even changing the bullet fire colour would be good.
02:09Maybe friendly can be blue or green and enemy can be red.
02:12Otherwise there's a nice variance of enemies to get on with destroying.
02:16Weapons
02:17Weapons need some more variance.
02:19But then that said, the game was so difficult for me to progress
02:22that maybe I just didn't get to see more weapons or more choice of weapons.
02:26But the weapons I had were okay.
02:28You can also adjust a power level on your console to give more power to either your shields or weapons.
02:33And then you can also grab one of the weapon cubes to give you a secondary weapon.
02:37Leveling up options.
02:39At the beginning you seem to level up ships fast, but then it stops.
02:43I'd like to see a system where you kill enemies, you gain tokens.
02:46And then with those tokens you can unlock different ships.
02:49But be able to see all the ships you can unlock first on one page.
02:52I like the system he has designed of putting cubes into a slot on your ship's console.
02:57But again, I'd like to see a system where you could buy these weapons from a shop page.
03:01And then you always have them there to choose.
03:03You can only have one at a time.
03:05Also, the same with health.
03:06As I found it a huge issue of I'd get destroyed too easily.
03:10So to be able to buy health and keep maybe three to five on your console would be awesome.
03:15As currently it stands, when you destroy certain things, a sun-like orb appears that you can collect to get a random weapon or health.
03:23Mechanics.
03:24I love the mechanics of flying.
03:25I see a lot of complaints about the flying on the Metastore.
03:28But people are just not doing it correctly.
03:30I think the system he has made makes it so simple to control and I actually love it.
03:35The only negative I saw is that a couple of occasions I would see ships flying into each other.
03:40Like trying to pass through each other.
03:42Not the suicide ramming into an enemy type pass through.
03:45Controls.
03:46As I said, I love the control system in this game.
03:49They are very simple.
03:50I just don't understand how people don't get it.
03:52Grab the in-game joystick.
03:54Then twist your wrists to bank left or right.
03:57To turn, you move the joystick left or right.
03:59To go up and down, you can use the in-game stick.
04:02Or use your actual control stick.
04:05It's in reverse.
04:06But I chose the latter.
04:07And it gave me great control of my ship.
04:10Game menus.
04:11The menus are basic.
04:12I'd like to see them cleaned up and not so 80s looking.
04:15I'd also like to see the mission select menu cleaned up a lot.
04:19I love the idea of it but it can be very confusing.
04:22At least number the missions so you know which one to go out on next.
04:26And maybe have all the missions laid out in front of you so you can see where you are and how your progression is coming along.
04:33My thoughts.
04:34I like this game.
04:35It gives me Battlestar Galactica vibes.
04:38And there is a lot of potential but I think it needs a lot of work.
04:41But it really is a fantastic effort from just one guy.
04:44I just wish he had more time to work on it.
04:46It needs a lot more polish in the graphics.
04:48And then there's that issue of not being able to tell clearly if you're shooting an enemy or a friendly.
04:54The main thing is that the game needs to give the player more direction.
04:57And needs to be slightly easier or at least give the player more tools to survive.
05:02As I said I'm stuck on a level I just can't pass where I need to destroy two satellite dishes.
05:07Then take down three larger ships.
05:09Then a defence tower.
05:10Then the defence tower turrets around the ground.
05:13And then finally survive some fighters for three minutes.
05:16But no matter what I do I die.
05:18If I take them on I get destroyed.
05:20If I run they chase me and I get destroyed.
05:23There's no slow health regeneration or health to pick up.
05:26Most of the time you just lose health in the first part of the mission.
05:30So you're already low by the time you get to fight the fighters at the end to survive three minutes.
05:34So it becomes frustrating after a handful of attempts.
05:37And you tend to just give up on the game.
05:39Which is a shame.
05:40Because it is enjoyable.
05:41I hope he finds the time and fixes all these issues in the future.
05:44Because I really was enjoying playing this game.
05:47Anyway.
05:48If you enjoy flying fighting type games.
05:50Do check this out.
05:51Plus you are probably going to be a better pilot than me.
05:53So we'll pass the levels easier.
05:55Now if you made it to the end of this video.
05:57I thank you for giving me your time.
