Jonny Drury and Nathan Judah discuss Callum Styles on this week's episode of the Baggies Broadcast.
Transcript
00:00We talked Charlie Taylor and we talked Styles last week. Obviously, Albany have got two left-back options there now.
00:06I think probably on paper, obviously, Taylor is a recognised left-back. Styles has kind of made that position his own.
00:14He's not a recognised left-back. I think in the long term, or certainly in, I don't want to say in the coming weeks,
00:22but maybe in the coming months, I do see Taylor as being that first-choice left-back for Albany.
00:27But the style central midfield debate is a good one. I think he's certainly better going forward than he is defensively.
00:35But he has put in some impressive display defensively. I thought he was ropey at Stoke a few weeks ago,
00:40but for someone who was, in terms of stature and size, relatively small for a defender,
00:46he's done really well in that position for, I think it was first Corbran and then obviously Mowbray and now Mason.
00:53I do think his quality and his technical ability lends itself to play further up the field.
00:59And I think eventually we may see that, you know, he brings another option in that centre of the park,
01:04you know, brings another option, playing arguably further forward, not even as a sitter, you know,
01:08because he is technically very good, likes to get forward.
01:12Well, like an eight rather than a six?
01:15Potentially, yeah. I think it brings it, that is another question.
01:17You see at the moment, Albion are kind of playing two sitters in Molumbi and Mowat.
01:21We've got someone in Toby Collier who can do a six and an eight as well.
01:25And I think Stiles could potentially be that man further forward.
01:29You know, obviously, Isaac Price is there just off the front man at the moment and he's going to take some unearthing,
01:33but it certainly brings another option further up the field.
01:35And that is something, again, that, you know, I don't want to be the PR machine for Bilko,
01:39because, you know, there will come a time where we're going to have to kind of criticise him for sitting.
01:44Well, we have, maybe the Mowat decision, but they like versatility and that is what Stiles brings.
01:50He's predominantly playing a left-back, but I think moving forward, we may see him used in a number of positions.
01:54Because I think probably Taylor, someone who's got a championship title winning experience, still 31,
02:00still a very good full-back at this level, could be someone who comes in more regularly.
02:06It's a long old season, Johnny.
02:07Your security is key.
02:10Oh, it is. Yeah, massively.
02:12You know, and they've got that in a number of positions.
02:15George Campbell played right back at Stoke and was unbelievable, but it's a centre-half.
02:19You know, Chris Meppam can play there.
02:20Obviously, you've got Stiles who can play left-back, but can play further forward.
02:24We mentioned Toby Collier who can get forward, but also play as a sitter.
02:28Isaac Price can play on either wing.
02:30He could probably play as a centre-forward, to be honest.
02:33And you've got Josh Magda can play up front, can play in the 10.
02:36Wallace has played in the 10 before, not really successfully.
02:39Johnston could do it.
02:40He could play either side.
02:42So, yeah, the versatility is key, and it seems like a very big kind of attribute
02:46that the owners and the recruitment team, and I'm sure Ryan Mason won.
02:50He won't be able to do it in the 10 before.
02:57He can do it.
03:02It's all right.
03:03I've known the察 Linkedin.
03:04I have wanted to say, I don't know.
03:07It's not really good.
03:09I don't know.
03:09He could be on the team.
03:09It's all right.
