Transcript
00:00Yeah, he's a very striking character, you know, very intense, methodical.
00:06His use of language is phenomenal, really, the way he speaks
00:09and can relay and detail things.
00:13I remember being blown away at the time.
00:15And this is, by the way, what would that be, seven, eight years ago?
00:18So obviously that was his sort of hometown club at the time.
00:22He's got a big football family, Eric Ramsey, his brother's involved in the game.
00:25And obviously tracked him from there, eventually from Shrewsbury
00:29in that coach role he left for Chelsea's academy,
00:32which was a hell of a move for him at the time.
00:34You know, it would have still been late 20s, I think.
00:35By the way, at the time, he was the youngest coach holder in Britain
00:40to have his foe licence, which was something, you know,
00:43that obviously attracted headlines.
00:44Chelsea, then Manchester United with Ten Hag and then obviously overseas.
00:48So good for him.
00:49You know, it's great to see.
00:51I think my opinion on interest in him,
00:55and I gather that he's pretty well settled over there,
00:59is my sort of understanding of it.
01:01And I don't believe he's in an immediate rush to get back over.
01:05Before the Albion chatter, I did see Southampton links,
01:08which says a lot.
01:09But I think Southampton would probably be attractive to him, I'm sure.
01:14But yeah, that feels like a little bit of a leap for Southampton,
01:18dare I say, a bit of a gamble.
01:19I think with younger coaches who are on the way up,
01:22that word gamble can be thrown around loosely, can't it?
01:25Like, you know, they haven't had too many jobs,
01:27got too much experience type thing.
01:29You just have to take a punt.
01:31I see, you know, Eric Ramsey do similar sort of work
01:34as Kieran McKenna at Manchester United.
01:37You know, I've seen McKenna now at Ipswich,
01:38and look how that's gone for him.
01:40So it's just, it's almost,
01:46because I do think it's the profile that the Albion,
01:48you know, the Bilko decision makers will be looking at, really.
01:51I don't think they'll be put off too much by lack of age
01:55or, you know, someone who's just had the one role type thing.
01:59So maybe it's what, you know,
02:01what Eric Ramsey sees for himself, really,
02:03in his pathway, because he's doing very well over there.
02:06Beat a certain Lionel Messi the other day, didn't he?
02:08And David Beckham's mob at Miami.
02:12What a result that was.
02:12I think he's got Minnesota second in the table.
02:15Just quickly on Ryan Mason.
02:18He was talking about experience, CVs, lack of jobs and all that.
02:23He's not been a permanent boss, has he, Mason?
02:27And I would imagine he wants to be.
02:28I'm sure that's what his ambition would be.
02:30He's been a coach for a very long time
02:31because of that early retirement from the awful head injury, was it?
02:36Had two sort of caretaker spurs links.
02:39And I mentioned gamble risk.
02:42I think that's a big one.
02:44If you're going to offer someone of, he's the same age as Ramsey, he's 33.
02:47If you're going to offer him his first permanent head coach manager stint,
02:51that's a big call, isn't it?
02:54Someone who hasn't done it before.
02:56You know, Eric Ramsey's now done it, albeit in the MLS, but he's done it.
02:59And I'm not saying Mason can't do it.
03:01I think Ryan Mason's quite impressive.
03:02And I think he could go on.
03:06I'm sure he'll go on and have a stellar career.
03:07But it's just a big call from Bilkel, I think.
03:10Although I do gather and understand they did have a look,
03:14I'm not sure how strongly, at Mason in January.
03:18So this isn't sort of out the blue fresh.
03:22There was, you know, there was potentially something there before.
03:25So, yeah, it's interesting, isn't it?
03:28But that's where the profile is, I think.
03:32But again, I don't suppose it has to be.
03:34You know, it doesn't have to be an early to mid-30-year-old.
03:38It can be, you know, if you're head coach in your 40s in Europe doing well,
03:43I think you're around sort of heading into your prime time, aren't you, in your career.
03:48And, you know, they'll view someone as wanting to take that,
03:51maybe that next step to England for the first time
03:53and look to get to the Premier League, stuff like that.
03:55So that's how I see it anyway.
