00:00Australia is the only Commonwealth country in the world that doesn't have a treaty with
00:03its First Peoples and today we take a key next step to address that.
00:09This will reset the relationship between First Peoples and government.
00:14This will create a body that will enact real, practical change for First Peoples in our
00:19state.
00:20Families are better off when they have a say, when they have control and responsibility
00:25over their lives and Aboriginal families are no different.
00:30And I'm proud today to be introducing into the Victorian Parliament the Statewide Treaty
00:34Bill.
00:35It puts into law the changes that will give Aboriginal people a say in how services and programs
00:42that are for Aboriginal Victorians are run.
00:45None of these changes are about taking anything away from anyone.
00:50It's simply about improving services, improving the lives for Aboriginal Victorians.
