00:00So, Australia Post was just one of many global postal carriers that stopped shipping items
00:08like parcels to the United States last month after the end of the so-called de minimis
00:14exemption in the United States by the Trump administration.
00:19So the de minimis exemption had previously allowed so-called low-valued goods to get
00:24into the states without being taxed.
00:27That exemption was ended by the Trump administration and it really did throw many postal carriers
00:33into chaos because, as they found out, they didn't have systems to collect and distribute
00:40the looming taxes on these products.
00:42To be clear here, Australia Post isn't being expected to pay the tariffs now on those goods,
00:48but it needs to somehow figure out a way for the retailers or the consumers of those products
00:53to pay those tariffs and then send those to the US agencies.
00:57So, without those systems in place to do this, it did halt shipping of many items there last
01:05month, but it's just announced that it now has a third-party provider, Zonos, that it
01:10thinks it can help collect those tariffs and it's going to resume most forms or all forms
01:15of US shipping by September 25.
01:17Businesses really have been thrown into limbo by the end of the so-called de minimis exemption.
01:23And that's not just retailers here in Australia that are sending things like clothing and
01:28jewellery to the United States, but it's actually impacted retailers all around the world.
01:34I've been speaking to brands that, even before Australia Post stopped shipping most forms of
01:41parcels to the states, even before that, they were making the decisions to stop taking US
01:46orders because they just didn't know how this situation was going to play out.
01:51I've spoken to brands and other sorts of companies that have lost significant amount of revenue
01:56because of this disruption.
01:58I was speaking to a fashion brand just a few hours ago who said it's a relief that Australia
02:04Post is going to resume shipping, especially before things like the Black Friday sales in the
02:09United States later this year, which are a really big source of revenue for them.
