Sweet tooth: Where in Europe are chocoholics paying the most for their fix?

Driven by a poor harvest in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, chocolate prices have surged globally. Poland saw a 39.1% increase, the highest in the EU.

00:00Where in Europe is the price of chocolate increasing the most?
00:08Driven by a poor harvest in Ghana and Ivory Coast, the world's largest producers of cocoa,
00:14the price of chocolate has surged globally over the past year.
00:18Across Europe and on average, prices were 21.1% higher in May 2025 than a year earlier.
00:26But what European country has seen the price of chocolate increase the most?
00:30It was Poland.
00:32The country reported a 39.1% increase as of May 2025 compared to the previous year.
00:39Other countries reporting notable price hikes include Estonia at 37.9%, Lithuania at 36.5%,
00:48Latvia at 33.2%, Sweden at 28% and Finland at 26%.
00:56Price increases were less severe, however, in Luxembourg at 5.2%, Cyprus at 9%, Italy at 12%,
01:06Malta at 12.2% and Austria at 13.4%.
01:13Cocoa, which used to trade for between €2,000 and €3,000 a tonne,
01:18eat as high as around €13,000 a tonne for a period.
01:23Analysts expect its price to remain at around €9,000 by the end of the year.
