Chocolate rises in prices by around 30% coming into Easter

You might be getting a lot less chocolate for your buck this Easter due to shrinkflation.

00:00If you're a sweet tooth like me, you should prepare to spend more on your Easter goods this Easter time.

00:07Consumer Group Choice says that there's been a 33% rise in the price of chocky eggs and bunnies per 100 grams.

00:14So if you're looking for a 24-pack of Easter eggs, that will cost you an extra $3 more,

00:19but you're actually getting two less, $22 in total. Choice says this is shrinkflation,

00:24where consumers are getting slugged with higher prices but getting less in return.

00:29They say that the unprecedented rise in cocoa prices around the world,

00:32but also global tariffs and the international trade environment are behind these price increases.

00:38They say that Cadbury, Nestle and Aldi supermarkets are among the worst offenders.

00:42And they're calling on consumers to keep their eyes peeled for any goods or bargains that appear too good to be true.

00:48And they're also calling on the ACCC to clamp down on price garging and make sure the consumers are better protected.

00:55It means that you may be having to hunt around for some better bargains this Easter time.
