John Mayer for Dialed In

00:00You brought some other watches. Are you interested in showing those or do you want to stick to them?
00:04I'll show a couple things. You know, I told myself I wouldn't bring anything.
00:09Because when I bring watches to a table, it's a different show.
00:13But this is, just to show you three watches, this being, my collaboration being one of them.
00:19I'm going to show you the watch that kind of started the QP Royal Oak,
00:25the watch that really got it popular, and then the last iteration of that caliber.
00:31So this is a 25-654 late 80s.
00:37It's the second, you could probably say it's the third.
00:40You could probably say for one month they made a different one.
00:42But it's basically the second version of a QP Royal Oak.
00:46And they're very similar. It's the same layout.
00:49And that's the discipline that I love in any, you know, like Porsche.
00:55The discipline of Porsche from year to year to year on the 911 is like,
01:00you watch it grow so slowly over, you know, 60 years.
01:05Yeah, so many of the hallmarks of the perpetual calendar are there.
01:10Yeah.
01:11And in a very blonde, yellow gold.
01:14Very old kind of.
01:16Old gold.
01:16Old gold is bronzy. I really like it.
01:20And if you think back to that being late 80s, early 90s, we were alive then.
01:25Who was smart enough to, like, be into that back in 1989 or 1990?
01:31Well, if they were, they'd be laughing now, frankly.
01:34Yeah.
01:35If you were living the kind of life where you looked at that,
01:38you might be dead for other reasons.
01:40But I don't know.
01:41But this is what happens when you get into vintage watches,
01:46is you start to imagine what the lifestyle of the person who walked into the boutique
01:50and bought that must have been.
01:52Did you buy this fairly recently or was this one of them?
01:54Pretty recent.
01:55All right.
01:55As I get closer to the AP brand and the people there,
02:03I feel like it's a little more authentic or naturalistic
02:08to want to get into some of the earlier stuff just to have them,
02:11especially if you have your own collaboration.
02:13It makes a little more sense if you were interested in earlier versions of the QP
02:17to help augment the understanding or the collection of something that ends with that.
