01:17most importantly a charming lady miss dorothy kilgallen
01:21it's always a pleasure to have with us a wonderful game player and a wonderful husband arlene martin

01:50good evening ladies and gentlemen welcome to what's my line welcome to ben gazzara nice to
02:02have you back with us thank you john and uh i might say this is probably a good time to say thank you to
02:07mr cable for being such a fine and staunch member of our panel
02:12then it's by way of dismissing me john beg your pardon by way of dismissing me no not by way of dismissing
02:17you bennett surf will be back next week but martin has been like a great rock for all of us to lean
02:22upon in the interval and that is probably the last kind word i'll say tonight because we're going to
02:32be up to our old tricks and we'll also have a famous mystery guest before the panel a little bit later
02:37in the show we'll meet our first challenger after this word from florida citrus and now let's meet our
02:43first challenger will you come in and sign in please page whiteman right
03:01i shouldn't even have to ask this question is it miss or missus
03:12you said missus i'd have fallen right forward on my face i did say that's a very fine handwriting
03:16good strong one compliment you on that where are you from riverton wyoming riverton wyoming oh how
03:24nice i don't think we've had anybody from wyoming in a long time may i present the panel ms whiteman
03:28would you join me over here please tell me ms whiteman are you familiar with the way your score is kept
03:34upon this program yes i am then let's let the audience who've been joined us in the theater the folks
03:39who are looking in at home know exactly what your line is
03:42all right panel we will tell you that ms whiteman is salaried and we'll begin the general questioning
03:55with um martin gable ms whiteman wyoming is a great outdoor state is your work uh in any way
04:03would you call it outdoor work sometimes yes um there are many big ranches out there have you
04:12anything to do with the ranch in a way uh do you work for a uh a ranch owner no that's one down and nine
04:25time to go ms francis do you work for a profit-making organization yes uh do animals come in contact with
04:34you in your work yes are the animals domestic animals no well now we must have a small conference
04:44oh yes they are john just domesticated them good are they four-legged animals yes could you sit on one
04:59yes uh does one often sit on one sometimes yes uh would that rule out then cows bulls sheep
05:14if you are speaking specifically about the animals upon which one might sit except in those extremities
05:21of uh rodeo activity why we would be willing to rule them out wouldn't we yes i think so do you have
05:27something to do in in the training of this animal yes in the training of the animal well did you say
05:35training i might have said trading depends on what miss whiteman heard
05:42don't say a word i wouldn't the trading of these animals i'll take a chance
05:51be honorable in television
05:57but one of me we had a dinner in washington last night i must share this with you and ted
06:01coop of cbs actually he's the head of their news operation was doing the preliminaries to the
06:05program for the radio television correspondents association and he said it would be nice if we
06:10could have the old days when a plug was a horse and a rig was the cart that he dragged and harris was a tweed
06:19ah that's lovely i'm with him now do you want another chance miss francis or do you want to ride with
06:29what you said a moment ago i just want to say does miss whiteman have anything to do with animals in a
06:36trading sense yes i do sneaky aren't you john uh are these animals horses sometimes
06:53you work with a variety of animals then pardon you work with a variety of animals
06:59miss reitman you do uh however your experience is not in the circus is it it is not in the circus
07:08no it is not in the circus yes it is not even yes it is not in the circus um would you have anything
07:14to do with a zoo no two down and eight to go mr guzai well is there anything uh when you trade these animals
07:25are they uh traded in order to be uh uh consumed
07:32sometimes you wouldn't do that to a little old horse
07:38i mean the other animal martin right not our horses never
07:44now is there is there uh uh beef uh and uh cattle connected with uh what you do yes yes she handles
07:53cattle and there's some beefing about it i suppose yeah that'll get him home fast
08:02uh what does she do she trades
08:06uh uh in this trading is are you are you uh uh do you trade cat do you trade these animals for other
08:17types of animals no three down and seven to go miss kilgallen anybody want to swap a cow for a cat
08:27miss whiteman do you either buy or sell animals
08:34yes is money exchanged rather than goods yes well do you buy and sell
08:43no no four down and six to go martin table are you a horse trader ma'am
08:52no five down and five to go
08:57well if she trades horses she's a horse no you're you're in the barter business are you am i in the
09:03what the bar money just for money it was elicited that money changed hands yes but do you work with uh
09:11uh with butchers no please miss french six down and four to go mr gazaro well this is funny because
09:20you're you're just forgetting it yeah you're there and you're forgetting a term of reference and you're
09:25going in the wrong direction do you sell do you sell these uh animals to a specific organization no
09:32seven down and three to go miss kilgallen do you sell at all yes do you sell animals yes to a circus
09:42maybe i don't know well do we have to know what you sell it to is that part of it uh do you sell
09:48more than one kind of four-legged animal do you sell livestock you answered asked about three questions
09:55there oh i'm sorry i'm sorry i've been away would you like would you like me to select one yes
10:14do you sell four-legged animals to anyone or anything
10:19yes so what's the problem uh are we trying to determine perhaps i should ask this of john are
10:29we trying to determine something narrower than merely a cellar of animals we're gathered here
10:38solely for the purpose of finding out what miss whiteman's line is yes i i gathered that as i
10:45entered the theater john huh she's a breeder a what a trauma a farmer a farmer a breeder no i'm going
10:55to throw this is funny because you've got it at the end of your tongue she's an auctioneer oh
11:09not only that you went to the reese school of auctioneering and they have a livestock auction
11:13every week would you give us a taste i was going to you would you just you know give us an idea of
11:19how you do it well just suppose i'm about 350 you know red-faced hereford i'm red-faced anyway
11:25and sell me now go ahead i'm a hero a white-faced hereford i just fainted 350 pounds well pure muscle
11:37no fat all right boys how much did you sell me for i sold you for 25 dollars
11:58a hundred dollars a hundred way 25 a hundred way that's 50 dollars 75 hours no i guess you did well

13:13you join me over here thank you mrs hadis you know uh how it keeps going yes i think so all right
13:18then we'll tell the folks here in the theater in the audience at home exactly what your line is
13:30all right panel we will tell you that mrs hadis is self-employed and let's begin the general
13:35questioning with uh arlene francis well mrs haggis you're a very distinguished looking woman thank
13:41you uh you uh do you have a formal education for what you do is the formal education necessary for
13:47what you do no one down and ninety go mr gazara uh do you deal in a product yes
13:53could i use this product i think so under certain circumstances i mean you would have to want to
14:02let's put it that way but would this product uh enhance uh my uh let us say my uh beauty uh no
14:13yes that's uh yes would it by any chance enhance my appearance no no no i don't think so two
14:22down a day to go miss kilgallen uh mrs hadis could a woman use this product too uh if she wanted to
14:30some might yes uh could i hold this product in both my hands yes could i hold it in one hand yes
14:39is it solid rather than liquid is it solid rather than liquid yes is it consumed no well i think here
14:50i don't mean eaten i mean consumed eventually no no but i i was going to say in the term of reference
14:55here is it in the process of being used used up yes it is consumed uh if one had one of these products
15:05that you deal with uh would it ever be found in the home
15:09i would say we'd have to say no to that it might be but it says as miss head has said it certainly
15:20shouldn't be mr gable this product grow no four down and six to go miss francis is there anything
15:27dangerous about this product yes so that it should be only found out of doors really
15:36well is that where it's most useful that's where it's most useful right
15:41is uh gunpowder in any way associated with this product
15:47no uh with your permission since it's put in any way associated with we will give you a yes because i
15:54think it would be unfair to to give you a flat note the one thing you don't want to be as unfair
15:57never mind you i never want to never want to be in is um uh does this product have anything to do in
16:05any way with guns or ammunition no no five down and five to go mr gazaar i'll take a wild uh guess
16:14at something does this product have anything to do with hunting no six down and four to go miss kill
16:21gallant uh does this product ever cause a noise yes very much so is there something explosive about
16:30it yes is it dynamite or anything akin to dynamite do you make dynamite no well actually again i'm going
16:42to throw the wall over anyway miss hayden she does make it but she sells it basically but it's her own
16:47company now if anybody wants to have a little dynamite scent for breakfast in the morning just
16:50let me know but you win all the way because i think actually technically speaking she sells it
16:55although it's her company that makes it high explosive to be made causes it to be made that's
17:00right it's high explosive by her intrepidity and pioneers so you wouldn't have it in the home
17:06it's the evie hayden's company planning something that i'm not planning we live pretty wild in new
17:13york better not i hope your relatives all heard that dorothy that's all i've got to say quarter
