00:00Using their strength, speed, and smarts, these four kids are about to square off with a chance to become zookeeper
00:08for a day.
00:11From the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park in sunny California, it's time for another Animal Planet
00:19Zoo Venture.
00:24So get ready for the wildest game around, because we're about to rock, roll, and rumble through the jungle on
00:31today's Animal Planet Zoo Venture.
00:41Oh yeah!
00:44Alright, we're having a blast today. How's it going everybody? I'm J.D. Roth. This is Zoo Venture.
00:50It's a game about animals. It's also a game about competition.
00:54Friendly competition, because everyone on the show goes home a winner.
00:57Only one lucky player is going to get a chance to be zookeeper for a day.
01:01I'm talking going into the zoo and hanging with the animals.
01:04Let's get going to meet our first two players. Here's Chris and Jessica.
01:08Come on, guys.
01:11Come on over here. Two players who look ready to get down and get busy.
01:15You guys ready for the first game?
01:16Yeah.
01:17Alright, there's a big, long setup to this, so why don't you guys hop on in there.
01:20It's pretty complicated.
01:21I'll explain the game to everyone at home.
01:23They're going to be suspended on this giant flying machine.
01:26Now, the machine is going to go flying around in circles.
01:28They're going to be armed with a claw that's over here.
01:32This claw is pretty cool, actually.
01:33They use it to pick up animals, rats, snakes, all sorts of things, pick it up like this, carry it
01:40over to the nest, and drop it in.
01:41Now, you notice how easy I made it look like?
01:43That's because I'm not flying.
01:45They're actually flying while they're doing this, if you can believe that.
01:47Whoever gets the most animals in their nest at the end of 45 seconds wins the game and 10 points.
01:53So, let's set the clock for 45.
01:55Here you go.
01:56Go for it.
01:57On your mark.
01:58Get set.
02:00Go.
02:01Go spinning around, baby.
02:03Go, go, go.
02:05You got one.
02:06Nice job.
02:07Whoever gets the most is the player that wins.
02:10Go, Jessica.
02:11All right.
02:14Keep it going, guys.
02:15Keep it going.
02:1830 seconds.
02:20Keep it going.
02:25Okay.
02:26Go, go, go.
02:26He's going to get a snake.
02:27Oh, look at that snake.
02:29It's just hanging on the edge, but he got it.
02:30It's good.
02:3215 seconds.
02:34Grab another snake.
02:35Nope.
02:37He missed it.
02:38Keep it going, guys.
02:39Not much time left.
02:41Four, three, two, one.
02:44That's it.
02:45Let me grab your feet and slow you down a little bit.
02:48That is it.
02:49You guys did a fantastic job.
02:51This thing looks so cool.
02:52Check them out as they fly in slow-mo.
02:57Look at that.
02:57There she goes.
02:58Jessica is working it.
03:00She gets it in the nest.
03:01A slam dunk.
03:02Nice job.
03:03All right.
03:03Now we're going to find out how well you guys did.
03:06We're going to see how many got in the nest.
03:08Look at that.
03:08The snake was just hanging on at the last minute.
03:10You can even see the snake over there leaning off the edge of the nest.
03:14Guess what, Chris?
03:15We're going to count that one.
03:16Let's find out how many you have in total, though.
03:18John?
03:19He got four.
03:19He got four of them.
03:20Nice job.
03:22Jessica, you need to get more than four, and you win the game.
03:25Todd, how many?
03:26Three.
03:27Oh, my man.
03:28Chris gets the ten points.
03:29Way to go.
03:31I love the way that machine flies around.
03:33All right.
03:34We are off like a cheetah.
03:35Time to get going to our next game.
03:36Let's go, guys.
03:37Come on.
03:38Yeah.
03:41All right.
03:42As we come in here, it's time to learn a little bit about our players.
03:46Jessica, how are you doing?
03:47Good.
03:47How are you?
03:48Great.
03:48What do you like to do in your spare time?
03:50Gymnastics.
03:51Really?
03:51Yeah.
03:52Can you do a little gymnastic move for us?
03:54Sure.
03:54Like what?
03:55Backhand spring.
03:56Are you kidding me?
03:57No.
03:57Would you guys like to see that?
03:58Yeah.
03:58All right.
03:59Come on out here.
04:00Be safe now, Jessica.
04:01We need you for the rest of the show.
04:04Whoa.
04:05All right.
04:06Come on over.
04:07I love that.
04:08Chris, you may have your work head out for your buddies.
04:10That was pretty cool.
04:11Good luck on the show, Jess.
04:12Chris, what do you like to do in your spare time?
04:14I like surfing.
04:15Oh, me too.
04:16How about short board or long?
04:17Long.
04:18Favorite spot to surf in?
04:21La Jolla.
04:22All right.
04:22Cool.
04:22Well, maybe you and I can surf after the show.
04:24Good luck.
04:25Let's hear it for both of our players.
04:28All right.
04:28Time to surf for the next game.
04:30Now that we know about our players, let's see how much they know about the animals.
04:33As we play Zoo Out of Three, we got three animals.
04:36One of them is going to be the right answer.
04:38The first player to correctly answer three questions is going to win 10 points.
04:42Today's animals are coming up on the monitor right now.
04:45Take a look at them.
04:45They are the rocked hyrex, the red roughed lemur, and the mangrove monitor.
04:53Now that you got the three animals, you know how to play the game.
04:56Remember, be the first one to buzz in.
04:58Whoever gets three right first wins the 10 points.
05:01You guys ready?
05:02Here comes your first question.
05:04What animal can do 21 different calls from chattering to screaming?
05:08Chris.
05:10Um, the lemur?
05:12No, the lemur's not right.
05:13Jessica, do you have an answer?
05:14The hyrex?
05:15That's right.
05:16One right.
05:16Good job.
05:17Don't worry about it, Chris.
05:19Here comes the next question.
05:20What animal swallows its prey whole like a snake?
05:23Chris, you buzzed in first.
05:25Minor.
05:26That's right.
05:26Good job.
05:27One to one.
05:28One to one.
05:30Which one of these animals' hands most resemble yours?
05:34Jessica.
05:35The lemur?
05:36The lemur is right.
05:37That gives you two, Jessica.
05:38If you get one more, you win the 10 points.
05:40You'll tie with Chris, okay?
05:42Here we go.
05:43What animal looks like a rodent, but is closely related to the elephant?
05:47Jessica, you buzzed in first.
05:49The hyrex?
05:50The hyrex is right for the win.
05:52Nice job.
05:53That gives you the 10 points.
05:55We got a tie.
05:5610 points apiece.
05:57Don't worry, guys.
05:58We're going to break that tie when we get back.
06:00We got one more game worth a whopping 20 points.
06:02They're both going to get a shot at maybe being zookeeper for a day.
06:06Now, to change pace a little bit, I got a chance to go in the zoo and hang out with
06:09the animals.
06:10It was an awesome experience.
06:12Take a look at who I met.
06:14We're out here on safari in the middle of the San Diego Wild Animal Park with Rhonda,
06:19a whole bunch of animals around us, and some huge guys back there.
06:23They kind of look like buffalo, but probably not, right?
06:26Right.
06:27Actually, what they are are Indian gower cattle.
06:29Now, these animals are also noted to be called ghost cattle because some of them have blue eyes
06:35and have a very mysterious look about them.
06:37The males are so large, though, they get up to 1,800 pounds.
06:43When you're that big, can you actually run pretty fast or not really?
06:46They can move when they need to.
06:47And one thing about them, they're very protective of their babies.
06:51Well, thanks a lot, Rhonda.
06:52When we get back, we got a lot more action.
06:54So stay with us on the only show that delivers the animals, ZooVenture.
07:01Discovery Kids will be back.
07:05Discovery Kids is back.
07:14We are back.
07:15Jessica was kind of entertaining us during the commercial break,
07:18doing flips all over the studio.
07:19No, I'm only kidding.
07:20The score is tied, 10 points apiece.
07:22We're ready to play the final game in round one.
07:24This game is going to decide which one of our players is going to mix it up
07:27in that zoofari challenge at the end of the show.
07:30Now it's time for that last game.
07:31It's a zoo view, testing out their animal IQ.
07:34We're going to show them a clip about an animal,
07:36then I'll ask you guys a multiple-choice question.
07:38They're going to be fast on their feet.
07:39They've got to be the first one to buzz in,
07:41because we only have three questions.
07:43Whoever gets the most out of three is going to win the 20 points,
07:46break the tie, and win the game.
07:47Are you guys ready?
07:48Yeah.
07:49All right, take a look at the monitor.
07:50Here comes your first question.
07:52Giant pandas are endangered species.
07:54This panda is one of only A, three left in the world,
07:59B, about 1,000 left in the world,
08:01or C, over 1 million left.
08:03Jessica.
08:04E.
08:04You're right.
08:05Good job.
08:08Jessica, all you need is one more, and you win the game, okay?
08:10Here comes your next question.
08:12Check it out.
08:13Zebras are prey to many different animals.
08:15Luckily, they can protect themselves with their keen sense of what?
08:19You buzzed in, Jessica.
08:21Without even the choices, what is it?
08:22Smell.
08:23No, smell is not right.
08:25Chris, you're going to get the benefit of the choices.
08:26A, smell.
08:27B, hearing.
08:28Or C, sight.
08:30Sight?
08:31No, sight is not right either,
08:33which means we're going to go to our last question.
08:35Jessica still has one, okay?
08:37So, Chris, hopefully you can get in there.
08:38Here comes your third question.
08:40You've asked enough questions.
08:41How about I ask you a question?
08:43Okay, Chris, what's your question?
08:45What's your favorite animal?
08:46My favorite animal would be my sister.
08:49Okay, now we'll go to the final one.
08:51Thanks for the question, Chris.
08:52I like that.
08:53All right, here comes the last question.
08:54This is the Przewalski's horse,
08:56the only living wild horse species.
08:59At birth, how much does a newborn weigh?
09:02A, it weighs half the mother's weight.
09:05B, it weighs the same as its mother.
09:07Or C, it weighs 5% of the mother.
09:10Jessica, for the game.
09:12C?
09:12C is right for the game.
09:14Nice job.
09:16Hey, Chris, I had fun having you.
09:18You and I will definitely surf,
09:19and you can ask me all the questions you want after the show, all right?
09:22We got some cool prizes.
09:24Take a look.
09:26Academy Broadway's quality rectangular sleeping bag
09:28and fire-retardant two-person 8-frame tent with carry bags.
09:32Products designed for the great outdoors from Academy Broadway.
09:36I like that.
09:37He was testing me.
09:37Let's give it up for Chris.
09:38He's really cool.
09:40But guess what, Jessica?
09:41You're going to be flipping all over the place
09:43because you're going to the zoofari challenge at the end of the show.
09:46Are you ready?
09:47Yeah.
09:47Well, save some of your energy, okay?
09:49You're going to go backstage, hang out, until we're ready for you, okay?
09:51Okay.
09:52Give it up for Jessica.
09:53Yeah.
09:55Now it's time for a special guest star in the audience.
09:57That's right.
09:58It's an animal from the zoo.
09:59Let's go meet Nikki right now.
10:03Well, look who I have here.
10:04Can I have that, please?
10:05What's your name?
10:06Amanda.
10:07Thank you very much, Amanda.
10:08Hi, Nick.
10:08Hi.
10:09Whoa.
10:10What kind of bird is this?
10:11This is a kestrel.
10:12It's the smallest falcon in North America.
10:14And it's a kestrel.
10:15Kestrel.
10:16It's a type of falcon or a bird of prey,
10:18and you can see they have little talons on their feet,
10:20and that's what they catch their prey items with.
10:22So they can actually pick things up with their feet.
10:24That's right.
10:25They would eat small lizards and rodents and insects
10:27and things that they could catch and carry away.
10:29This is as big as they get.
10:31And is he nervous right now?
10:32There's a lot of people here.
10:34He's used to doing shows,
10:35but sometimes wild animals will try to take off
10:37and get away from all the people.
10:38So we'll let you get back to your game,
10:40and we'll take off with the bird.
10:41Wow, you could almost host a show.
10:42All right.
10:43That's pretty good.
10:44All right, well, let's meet our next two players.
10:45Here comes Ross and Linnea.
10:47Come on, guys.
10:48Thanks, Amanda.
10:51Come on in here, guys.
10:53Yeah, got my two players.
10:55Now, Linnea didn't know this,
10:57but she's backstage preparing for the show and everything,
10:59and she's showing people how she's double-jointed.
11:02Is that right?
11:03Yeah.
11:03Why don't you show them what you were doing?
11:05It was kind of freaky with her hand.
11:06Show them.
11:07Well, my thumb, like, going in,
11:08and then this part bends the top.
11:10Ew.
11:10That totally grosses me out.
11:12Do your friends ask you to do it all the time?
11:13Yeah.
11:14That's pretty gross.
11:14Well, okay, don't do it again, all right?
11:16Okay.
11:16All right, good luck on the show.
11:17How you doing, bud?
11:17Good, how are you?
11:18That hat looks fantastic on you.
11:20Thanks.
11:20You can take that to school with you, okay?
11:22Okay.
11:23What do you like to do in your spare time?
11:24I like to act and sing.
11:26Yeah?
11:26Yeah, act most.
11:28All right, well, then this is a good shot for you to be on national television, right?
11:31Maybe you'll be discovered.
11:32You never know.
11:33All right, we're ready for our first game for these two guys right now.
11:36Now, you guys are dressed pretty funny, don't you think?
11:38Yeah.
11:38Well, you're dressed as a water buffalo.
11:40In fact, turn around and show them your back.
11:42His back is this way because we have oxpeckers that are going to be flying over that wall
11:46over there.
11:46When they do, those birds are going to stick to their back because out in the wild, it's
11:50kind of a symbiotic relationship.
11:52The birds live on the water buffalo's back to eat like the flies and the ticks and all
11:56the stuff off them.
11:57And the water buffalo's actually like it.
11:59And you know what?
11:59I'd never met a water buffalo who was double jointed.
12:02But that's okay.
12:03It doesn't matter.
12:03Whoever can catch the most oxpeckers is going to win.
12:06Let's set the clock for 45.
12:08Here we go.
12:08Get into position.
12:10On your mark.
12:11Get set.
12:12Go.
12:15All right.
12:15He's got one of them.
12:16Nice job.
12:18You can keep getting them on your back.
12:20You can catch them.
12:21She lost her hat, but she can still play the game.
12:23She is a giant water buffalo, and so is he.
12:26Work it, guys.
12:27Work it.
12:29Nice job.
12:30She's got a really good technique going.
12:32She kind of lines it up.
12:3330 seconds left, and grabs it right on her back.
12:36Good job.
12:37He caught one.
12:38All right.
12:38Keep going, guys.
12:41Go, go, go.
12:4215 seconds.
12:45Try throwing something up in the air and catching it on your back.
12:48It is near impossible.
12:49It is not an easy thing to do.
12:51Believe me.
12:52Go, go, go.
12:55Time's almost up.
12:58That's it.
12:59That is it.
13:00We'll count the last one.
13:01He doesn't even want to move, do you, because you're afraid they're going to fall.
13:03Don't worry.
13:04Stand up.
13:04I promise they won't fall.
13:05All right.
13:06Come on over here.
13:06Let's see how well you did.
13:08Come here.
13:08All right.
13:09We're going to count yours up first.
13:10Just check this out if you can.
13:12There's one stuck to his head.
13:13Look at that.
13:14We're going to count that one because it's stuck to his head.
13:16That one's good.
13:17That's one.
13:18Turn around now.
13:19Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten of them.
13:25Nice job.
13:26You need more than ten double-joined to turn around.
13:29Find out how you did.
13:30One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
13:37You're our winner.
13:38Way to go.
13:38All right.
13:39That gives him the ten points.
13:40When we get back, we've got a whole lot more fun, so stay with us on ZooVenture.
13:45Yeah.
13:52Discovery Kids will be back.
13:57Discovery Kids is back.
14:05Welcome back.
14:06Thanks for staying with us on a sunny day at the Zoo.
14:08We're right in the middle of round two.
14:09The score so far, we've got Ross in the lead.
14:12Right, Ross?
14:12You've got ten points.
14:13Linnea doesn't have any, but don't worry.
14:15There's still plenty of time.
14:16And whoever wins this round is going to play Jessica, the winner from round one, to become
14:20Zookeeper for the day.
14:21Right now, we've got two untamed players, eight mind-bending questions, and nine wild things
14:26up on the board.
14:27Let's read them right now.
14:28Howler, squirrel monkey, hamster, bones, hummingbird, pebbles, human beings, albatross,
14:35and crocodile.
14:37All right.
14:37Now, remember, I'm going to ask you a question.
14:39Be the first one to buzz in with the right answer.
14:41Whoever gets the most right in 45 seconds is going to win the ten points.
14:45Let's set the clock for 45.
14:48Here comes your first question.
14:50What animal's heart beats a thousand times a minute?
14:54Ross?
14:55Hummingbird?
14:55Hummingbird is right.
14:56What monkey screams can be heard miles away?
14:59Linnea?
15:00Squirrel monkey?
15:01No.
15:02Ross, you have a guess?
15:03Uh, howler.
15:05Howler's right.
15:06Good job.
15:06You have 206, but an octopus doesn't have any.
15:09What are they?
15:11Linnea?
15:12Bones?
15:12Bones puts you on the board.
15:13What bird can have a seven-foot wingspan?
15:16Ross?
15:17Uh, albatross.
15:18Albatross is right.
15:19What living reptile is the closest relative to a dinosaur?
15:22Ross?
15:22Crocodile.
15:23Crocodile is right.
15:24What do ostriches swallow and keep in their stomachs to help them grind up food?
15:29Linnea, you got in there.
15:30Pebbles.
15:30Pebbles is right.
15:31What domestic animal keeps food in cheek pouches?
15:34Go for it, Ross.
15:35Hamster.
15:35Hamster is right, and that is it.
15:37Ross had five, Linnea only two.
15:39Ross, you get the ten points.
15:41That gives you 20 points.
15:43Linnea, keep your head up.
15:45We're going to grab our pith helmets.
15:47We're heading into the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park for a field trip.
15:50Come on.
15:52Yeah.
15:54All right, I'm flying on in here.
15:57They're going to pay attention to some facts on the video behind us, okay?
16:00You're going to match those facts to the animals.
16:02Whoever matches the most facts in 20 seconds is going to win the 20 points.
16:06All right, here comes their field trip.
16:08Take a look at the video right now.
16:13If you don't know these names, take a wild guess.
16:16What's an okapi?
16:18I have no idea.
16:20A coffee machine?
16:22They're the only living relative of the giraffe.
16:24They're found in the northern part of the Zaire rainforest.
16:27Okapis have a nine-inch long blue tongue.
16:30They can clean their eyes and their ears with their tongue,
16:32as well as grasp the leaves off of faraway branches.
16:36What's a bongo?
16:37Um, a type of monkey.
16:40Kind of drum.
16:41Bongos are found in Africa.
16:43They're one of the shyest of all the antelope.
16:45Look at the bongo's ears.
16:46They're very large and well-adapted for hearing
16:48because of the dense forest they come from.
16:50What's a shoebill?
16:52Maybe some kind of shoe.
16:54Something that would help you put on your shoe.
16:57This is a shoebill.
16:58It comes from the swampy areas of Zambia.
17:01It gets its name from that beak that looks much like a Dutch shoe.
17:05And they use that to capture their food.
17:09Ok, that's it.
17:10That's your whole field trip.
17:11I'm actually a little nervous for you.
17:13There's a lot of facts to organize in your head.
17:15We're going to set the clock for 20 seconds right now.
17:17You're going to match those facts to the animals, ok?
17:20Ok.
17:20Alright, good luck.
17:21On your mark, get set, go.
17:24You only have 20 seconds.
17:25Go fast.
17:29She's moving around.
17:30Don't worry about your hat.
17:33Go for it.
17:359, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
17:45Ok, we're going to count that one
17:47because you hit it up there and it fell.
17:48It just doesn't want to stick for you, does it?
17:50There we go.
17:50Alright, we're going to see how well you did, Linnea.
17:52Come on over here.
17:53We're going to start with the okapi.
17:54We were looking for rainforest, blue tongue, and giraffe related.
17:59Ok, it looks like the only one that's wrong is the antelope.
18:01We're going to go to the next animal.
18:02We were looking for large ears, shy, and antelope.
18:06So we're going to take off rainforest.

18:53Come on.
18:57Linnea with a little come-from-behind victory has tied it up.
19:00Here's how the tiebreaker works.
19:02It's a true-false question.
19:04If you buzz in and you know the answer, you win.
19:06If you miss it, your opponent automatically wins.
19:09So make sure you know the answer, ok?
