00:01So when you work with the material, it's not about the outcome of it.
00:07It's the process of it that you are sitting with that material for like 16 hours a day.
00:14We are celebrating the 8th edition of the Delhi Contemporary Art Week that I was instrumental
00:32in co-founding in 2017, almost 10 years ago and we are very very excited to be presenting
00:41the most expansive version of Delhi Contemporary Art Week, DCAW as we all call it, till date.
00:50So we are right now at the CCA and around me is a presentation by artists from Latitude
00:5628 that I am very very proud to represent.
00:59Right behind me is Kethi Satpodar, at the back we have Juhika Bhanjudeo who has also done
01:06a wonderful outdoor installation with fabric and materials which is her core focus working
01:14with textile and mundane objects like the safety pin.
01:18I believe material has the capacity to kind of take your concept and idea beyond what you
01:30must have probably thought of or expected.
01:36It's that minute, detailed, intense labour that you put in with the material.
01:44So I love painting but I like to explore more with materials.
01:55I don't feel like art making is the proper word for everyone.
02:13Art should happen, like even activism should happen like that way.
02:17It has to question like, question has to come from the inside.
02:21Even only art can happen or even question can get validated, right?
02:25Like otherwise, you are forcefully putting something and then you are not enjoying what
02:29you are doing but you wanted to like make something.
02:32So my idea was like art should happen, like it has to come naturally then whatever it comes
02:38you have to put it out.
02:39When people come in, they see contemporary art and they always kind of wonder how it would
02:52look in their space, you know.
02:54So there is always this little bit of hand holding that is needed which is why Delhi Contemporary
02:58Art Week started.
02:59Where we have the time and the sense and you know to take people, young patrons to educate
03:05them, you know, to show them around, to educate them about the various mediums.
03:10But it is difficult for us at a certain point because eventually it is kind of white cubish
03:15and to kind of explain or to push their imagination, you know, because there is a certain element
03:22of imagination which is needed when you see work which is installation based or not the
03:27regular wall based work, the framed work.
03:31You know, so it has not become decorative in that sense.
03:35It still has the sensitivity and you know with which and the respect that it deserves as
03:44an art piece and to be able to educate our patrons and collectors and inculcate new ones,
03:52you know.
03:53So which is what Delhi Contemporary Art Week is all about.
