00:00I'm not here to say that we were right all along about Drake and Nickelodeon, but two years ago we posted a TikTok about Drake's unauthorized use of a photo of Halle Berry getting slimed at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards as promotion for his single Slime You Out.
00:14At the time, Halle Berry did not like that Drake used this photo without her approval.
00:18In addition to talking about Drake, here I am talking about how Nickelodeon always treated sliming celebrities as this hilarious, iconic tradition, but as you can see, not everyone seemed to enjoy the experience.
00:30Not to mention there's a whole sensationalist appearance of sliming people and the suggestive inferences that can be made.
00:36What's fascinating about the lifespan of this video is that it keeps coming back, especially after allegations about Drake came to light following Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us, and after disturbing revelations came to light about Nickelodeon from the Quiet On Set documentary, including about their treatment of underage actors and even the use of their trademark green slime.
00:55Obviously, when we first made this video, we didn't know the details, we just had our opinions about Drake's behavior and Nickelodeon's, but when we first posted the video, we got a lot of comments from folks who were saying that we were overreacting and reading too much into it.
01:09Let's just say that the comments have evolved over time, and I think the discourse reflects how we all know better now.
01:15After Quiet On Set was released, a lot of creators continued to point out how the inappropriate behavior was fully out there, in plain sight, the entire time, and how we either didn't make the connection or we willfully ignored it.
01:29I do think there are some takeaways here beyond what we now know about these subjects.
01:33The first is Halle Berry was right, and we should never doubt her.
01:36The second is I think when people's love for something or someone is threatened, we tend to dismiss valid criticism as overreacting.
01:45So remember, kids, just because you see something on the internet that you don't necessarily like doesn't mean that it's false.
01:50In fact, it's possible that you might not like it because there is some truth to it.
